Somis Koi were fantastic. I called them with an emergency. Our waterfall pump had failed and we are having a party in 1 week. Robert came out the same day and figured out the problem. They returned the following day and replaced our pump and it worked better than ever! They are professional and friendly. I sent an email to Somis water Gardens explaining what I needed for my pond and would like to hire them for the monthly maintenance. Also, after not hearing from them, I called them and requested the same thing. After about five days, I stopped by and chatted with the individual that was there and explained The same repair need and monthly maintenance. They have not contacted me with any interest. We moved to Ventura County and inherited an extremely large koi pond. We brought some of our koi with us, and there were a few from the pond when we got here. About 6 months ago we drove out to Somis Koi and bought some very expensive koi and even more expensive water plants. Most of the plants died and we've now had 2 of the expensive koi from that batch die. After the first one got ill, I emailed them and never received a response. I sent a detailed description with photos. Now today I found a second koi in the skimmer, dead, again from the Somis Koi batch. NONE of the other fish that were ours originally or that were already here have died or gotten sick. Now I have to watch the other 2 we got there like a hawk and hope they're not infecting all the other fish. It's unconscionable to not answer pleas for help from your customers. read more

I wanted to surprise my wife with a couple new fish after our yearly pond cleanup. I drove out to Somis to see if they might have a reasonable selection to choose from. I was pleasantly surprised. They have a very nice selection and I was able to find two butterfly and one standard that fit The bill. All the fish were super healthy and they integrated into our pond very well. The lady who helped me was very kind and allowed plenty of time for me to make choices. I'll be back with my wife for a couple more! read more

When I contacted Robert at Somis Koi and Water Gardens about the waterfall on my pond, I was sure the problem was in the pump because there was almost no flow of water coming through. Robert convinced me that it was more likely that the water intake pipe was clogged and recommended draining the pond and checking the line. Robert's brother Mike showed up with an assistant right on time and set up a holding pond for my fish, captured all of them and then drained the pond. They also pressure washed the pond, waterfall and adjacent water feature. Sure enough, the intake pipe was clogged with planting material I had used for the water lilies and once the pipe was cleared the waterfall was restored to its full flow, plus the rocks were clean as the day it was built. Mike and his partner treated the water in the pond to make it safe for the fish to move back in, then restocked the pond, cleaned up completely and left things as they appeared when they arrived. I'm so grateful to Robert that he didn't just take my word for things and tear into the pump, since it was just fine and working on it would have been a waste of time and money. His years of experience dealing with aquatic issues enabled him to zero in on the most likely cause and fix the problem for the lowest cost practical. I'll use Somis Koi and Water Gardens again when needed, and I recommend their services to anyone with a water garden issue. BTW, they also have a very nice stock of Koi available. read more

We had a leak in the fountain. Turns out the auto fill valve had failed. Robert from Somis Koi responded quickly, especially considering I am not a regular customer. Mike repaired the problem promptly and professionally. Showed me the broken auto fill valve, and how the newer one works. Cannot say enough great things about the company, the owner, and Mike. Somis Koi is now on my list of trades to call whenever there is a problem with the fountain. The business should be called Somis Koi, WaterGardens, and Fountains. If I could give these people zero start I would. I'm usually one to understand if a place is busy or something but these people are rude and racist! Telling me and my parents that they don't do works for Mexicans because "Mexicans don't pay" and when I called they told me "our water fountains are expensive" and I go "yeah it doesn't matter I know what I want and I know the price range" and this dude goes "well I'm not going to you because we're expensive and you're not going to pay" and hung up. I live 20 minutes from these people, I could of driven over there I wouldn't of minded but with their attitude and racist employees I don't even think they want to make business with anyone. We have been using Somis Koi for about 15 years. The last 2 years or so they have become very unresponsivesive and unreliableable. But the final straw was when we called them to do annual maintenance of our waterfalls (one was clogged as well). After the cleaning one waterfall was still not flowing as it should and we were having to "backwash" every other day (should be once a week). We called them to let them know what was happening and it took them 3 weeks to come back out and do maintenance on the semi-clogged waterfall. A couple of weeks after the second maintenance call we received a bill for the second service call. I wrote them a letter explaining why I wasn't going to pay it since they didn't do the job correctly the first time. The owner, Robert sent a nasty text (cowardice) saying he "doesn't work for free" and that in the future we need to "find someone else to do our maintenance work." Not the kind of business or owner we want to do business with in the future! read more

I have been working with Robert for about 5 years now . I finally had them build me a huge pond with no real idea of what i wanted. The pond came out better then i could imagine. Two water falls and a flowing river. The filtration system makes the water so clear and you can always see the bottom. The fish always seem so happy. They also service my pond weekly which helps me alot. I visit thier location a couple times a month and they have so many yard items besides the KOi fish and supplies . For the past two years I have stopped in at Somis Koi and Water Gardens and sought there advice on many aspects of my ponds and garden. I very much wanted to have them come out and help improve one of my two ponds. Finally, I made the right decision. The crew came to Santa Barbara to professionally clean my lower pond. I also asked them to make any recommendations to improve upon what they saw. The clean out went great.. and it was real work for the team. Our discussions on the phone led them to bring out a new filtering system involving UV and a pressure filter. The water is so clear.. I enjoyed their company... as much as the outcome.
