Pros: super cute, everyone was nice, appropriately socially distanced. Cons: I brought pics of what I wanted color-wise, basically a dark blonde with some really natural-looking highlights around the face. Instead, I got thick tacky mall highlights that: - Start abruptly mid-shaft - Don't follow any discernable normal sun-exposure or hair growth pattern - Are unevenly bleached - Don't blend at all with the base color Additionally - My hair feels like straw. Pics were taken following 3 deep conditioning treatments at home. - They left a ring of dye on my face that took a good hour of scrubbing to get off. - Cut and blow-dry are not included in a color service, which would be fine except that I asked for shaggy layers and got an uneven blunt cut. - This place is NOT cheap. I've been very weary of salons and hair stylists after having a great do done by someone who moved away. I went here because one of my friends went. Love the space. Very casual and nice. Definitely didn't feel like a hair salon- which I liked. I had Mary do my hair. I told her how I felt about my current color and more about what I wanted. She got to work. I was here on a Saturday morning and left in less than 2 hours! Which I've never experienced when getting my hair done. She did such a great job! She was able to add lowlights, bring my blonde up, and give me the dimension my curly hair needed. Loved my experience! read more

I have been looking for a new salon and have been following Arcadia Salon on Instagram since they opened in January. After receiving a 20% off coupon for a new service, I decided to give them a call and book an appointment for a way overdue haircut. I was scheduled with Theo and he was ready to start my hair as soon as I walked in for my 9am appointment. I'm sure this is standard procedure, but he really took the time to hear what I wanted, how I style, and even what I could do to improve my hair. Not only did he spend a good amount of time cutting, after hearing I had events this evening, he really took the time make sure to blow out my hair to perfection. I even booked a color appointment for next month and look forward to seeing how that goes. With parking in Avondale being so sparse, Arcadia is perfectly positioned to park in the lot on 4th Ave S. Great location, great staff, and I ended up with a great cut. I look forward to my next visit! read more

When I needed a new salon in Birmingham, of course I came to Yelp. As usual, I was not disappointed. Had a great experience at this salon with Jaysie. It was my first hair cut since the pandemic and I was pleased with the social distancing measures in place. All staff and customers were wearing masks. Jaysie saw me promptly (I arrived early for my service and she accomodated me) and was very friendly. I really liked my cut and was pleased with my service overall. I really liked the products they used (Aveda, I think) and she even curled my hair afterwards at no charge. Service from the other staff was good as well. The salon is clean and really cute inside. Location in Avondale is really convenient for me too. Would recommend! read more

Probably the most painful blowout I have ever had. Constantly pulling on my head. My scalp was sore - even when she was washing my hair she managed to not be sensitive at all - like I was a rug or something. I could tell the young woman doing my hair had no passion, sensitivity, or interest in her craft. At the end it looked exactly like what I come up with in the mornings. Arcadia is a peaceful and upbeat salon in such a fun area of Birmingham! I came to Arcadia after having an unfortunate hair experience at another salon. I saw Ashley. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and kind. She worked WONDERS on my hair. I'm naturally a dark brunette, but she made my hair a beautiful, dimensional blonde. I was very defeated coming in, my hair was a horrible mix of brown and blonde, but I left Arcadia feeling confident and very happy. I got many compliments and I will definitely keep coming back! One of the most aesthetically pleasing spaces in the heart of Avondale. I followed Mary Fulton here from another salon and I feel so pampered every time I come. The staff is extremely accommodating and attentive and everything is clean and organized. The social media presence always keeps them on my mind and they also plan various events at the salon including pop-up cactus shops. The salon is dressed with well-tended, live plants and a variety of beautiful products on display. The prices are high, however, it is to be expected for a trendy salon and my undying desire for the perfect Mary Fulton blonding. This was my second salon experience in Birmingham and after my first I was a bit hesitant to go to another salon since my last one did not go great. I looked up salons near me and found this place and decided to give it a shot and I am so glad I did! Lis was my stylist and she was amazing, she took her time and really listened to me and gave me such a great cut and blow dry. The salon itself is very clean and comfortable, it doesn't feel like your typical salon it's very laidback and the music they played was also really good, oh and they also have complimentary drinks! To begin with, I called ab 5 hours before they closed and had an appointment scheduled for a perm and a fade before thanksgiving for 5:45pm, I got there 10 mins early and was greeted and sat down shortly after, I was told right as I sat down that they couldn't do a perm like they said they could on the phone and then proceeded to give me a "fade" which was basically a 30min process of this lady shaving my sides and back extremely tight on the back. read more

Great salon. It was my first time here after visiting many salons in Birmingham and being underwhelmed each time. They got me in quickly and my confirmation was easy. I was booked with Alyssa for 3/4 foil and a trim. She took her time and actually *listened* to what I wanted and executed it perfectly. She did not pressure me to have other services done (as I have had in the past at other salons) and did not tell me "oh that just won't look good on you, you don't have the right skin tone/face shape/eyebrow color" (I am naturally blonde and wanted to go lighter, not sure what was so difficult about that before). Alyssa was so incredibly friendly, helpful, and fun, along with all the other staff. It was very clean and had such a great vibe inside, and it was covid safe. I got one of the most expensive and worst haircuts here. The atmosphere is nice so that's why I give it 2 stars instead of 1. To start off she parted my hair without asking me where I part it. She parted it to the side when it obviously falls in the middle. I just thought that she was a little distracted at first, but as my haircut went on I realized what a mistake I had made. The first scare was when I asked her to even out my face framing layers/ curtain bangs. She did not know what curtain bangs were. She then went on to massacre my curtain bangs destroying what little volume I had towards the front of my face. She then left the shortest pieces uneven and I had to ask for her to fix the lengths. I asked for long layers all around and thought surely she can't mess this up? She did. I was a little alarmed when she did not line up my hair on both sides to make sure they are even but I thought that she knew what she was doing. I get home to find that the right side of my hair has no layers and is an inch and a half longer than my left! I had to fix my whole head of hair with what little skill I have and I turned out 100% better than it looked walking out of the salon. Don't go here if you want a decent cut! read more

Look no further, this salon can grant all your hair wishes! I called to make a last minute appointment, and they were so kind and helpful fitting me in! My stylist Macy is a real-life hair wizard. I had abused my hair over quarantine with many poorly applied at home bleaching kits and subsequent failed attempts to fix it myself. I had little to no hope it would look even relatively healthy again, but Macy worked her magic and I can now say "ready for my close up" with confidence. Never before have I actually achieved the look I was hoping for. I'm sure many of you can relate to leaving a hair appointment thinking "close enough", but Macy listened to my requests, looked at my many reference photos, and probably also read my mind and absolutely NAILED IT! From start to finish she was an absolute delight, and the rest of the staff were too. If you want a truly satisfying salon experience, Arcadia is the place to go! read more

Better experience I've ever had! I came in for a partial highlight for my blonde hair and haircut, and it was easily the best I've ever had of both. Madelyn took the time to paint each strand and make sure it all flowed together. She even did the underside of my hair after asking if I wore it up a lot.
