My first job was at sonic when I was 16 years old now I'm a grandmother and still love sonic to this day! The food is good and cheap and fast. I have gone there sat there and the service people are so sweet when they come to your car or if you have to go inside. The ambience is great. Everybody is wonderful and patient. I'm on disability so it's hard for me sometimes to get up and down or go anywhere and I recommend this place 100percent. read more

This was my first experience at this location. I'm leaving this review with that managers improve the training and communications skills of their crew. I pulled up tonight at around 7:15pm to the drive-thru. The young man at the intercom did not communicate well--meaning I couldn't tell if he was ready to take my order or if he was listening to me even after he told me he was ready--nothing was appearing on the screen until a long delay. I ordered the three $6 All American Smasher Meal as indicated by the flashing signage in front of the restaurant. He charged me the full price which was nearly $12 each. I reiterated to him that the promotional said it was $6. Then he proceeded to charge me just for the sandwiches only. I told him I wanted to the meal, and he said "okay". Upon picking up the order, it was only the sandwiches. I went inside the store and told him I ordered the meal and pointed to the flashing $6 promotional sign. He told me he could not see the sign. I pointed to it and read it to him verbatim. He told me he could not accommodate me. (Offer me the fries or drink, talk to the manager, refund etc.) He told me I would have to contact the corporate offices to complain about the sign. I told him all I wanted him to do was enter my order correctly because I had explicitly told him I wanted the promotional meal. And he froze like a deer in the headlights. I was not rude. But I was certainly confused. I decided the fries and drink weren't worth making him feel more anxious. But the fact that he was not able to get a manager or offer me the promotional after the fact indicates that there are some training issues with that crew tonight. Ordered 2 lemon berry slushies in the drive thru. The girl was extremely rude and had a nasty attitude. She told me they didn't have it despite me ordering it 2 days prior. Then she says ok they have it & brings me out a strawberry shortcake one with ice cream. After I told her those are incorrect she stomped out and was screaming at other people in the back. She then comes to the window with These pictured below. It's definitely the correct slushee but I ordered a large & these are not the right size. The large typically comes in a large styrofoam cup. If these are new large cups then I would hate to see the medium. This is the typical medium size. Her attitude was so terrible I would rather pay the extra and just order through Ubereats then deal with her again. We tried this location just on a lark and deep in the middle of the pandemic, and we could not have been more pleased. We liked the sit in your car and order over the curbside radio very much. It worked perfectly and our lunch arrived exactly as ordered. Good fresh hamburgers, nice fries, and typical soft drinks. I come here mainly for the slushies and sometimes for the corndog when they are $0.50. You can drive up and order at one of the parking spots or go inside and order at the automated kiosk. The drinks and slushies are half price during happy hour 2p-4p and shakes are half price after 8p. First time coming to a Sonic in my life, I really wanted to go to one because I see their commercials alot. This store was really clean inside. Got myself a shake here and a grilled chicken sandwich. I finally made my way out to the burbs to do some shopping at the outlet mall and found my way to this Sonic. I was impressed with the service at the drive-in since I've never experienced it before! You just pull up to your own car park and take your sweet time to evalute their menu. You can find all kinds of selections to suit your cravings from their famous coney's to their burgers, salads, chicken strips and drinks of all kinds - you can even add cherries, limes or lemons - just ask! I was happy with my sandwich - it was a beef and bacon toaster - and it was just as big as the pictures. It was a little cold on the inside but probably because it was stacked with fresh tomatoes and lettuce and ample pickles. Serive was really fast - brought to me by a guy on rollerblades who read my order out to me to ensure it was correct. My question is, am I supposed to tip these guys????? read more

I remember years ago when news spread like wildfire that Sonic was coming to the Chicagoland area. Well, I don't know what all the hype is about. The food really isn't that great; it's your typical fast food served to you by grumpy teenagers. I've done the "carside" (is that what it's called?) ordering once, and needless to say I found it more of a P.I.T.A. than it's worth. So, this time I decided to go the drive-thru route. Heading over during my hour-long lunchbreak, I was pleased to see it only took me 12 minutes. From entering the drive-thru to getting my food took about 10. So, that left me with 38 minutes to eat and get back to work. Not a problem. So I get in the drive-thru line and star at the menu board, torn between a Chicago Style hot dog and a Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Well, seeing as how payday isn't until the 27th, my cheaper half won out so I went with the hot dog (and a bottle of water). The girl who took my order had about as much personality as a banana. When I pulled up to the window, she was definitely scowling. I guess it's my fault for being hungry, ordering food, and making her work. Shame on me. After receiving my order, I pulled into the outskirts of the Walmart parking lot to inspect/eat my food. On the outside, the hot dog appeared to be fully loaded. Bright green relish, celery salt, mustard, onions, sport peppers, tomato, pickle, and poppy seed bun. Yep. Looking good so far. I took my first bite and was quite surprised that the taste matched my expectations. Sure, it wasn't THE BEST Chicago Style hot dog, but for a fast food place, it was about right. The celery salt may have been a bit lighter than I would have liked and there was a little too much relish, but it was still a tasty dog. I'd probably try Sonic again sometime, but I don't see it being a place I'd stop at regularly. I had already decided I wanted to use the drive-thru, but I was surprised to learn once there that you have to line up in the strip mall parking lot. They have staff and yellow cones set up to direct traffic. The staff communicate via walkie/ear pieces. The staff member who was in charge of getting us in the right parking lot queue, handed out menus--which made it MUCH easier than when I go to Portillo's or Buona Beef where they expect you to know the menu by heart. I got there at about 11:40 am, and after about 20 minutes I finally got from the parking lot up to the building at the drive-thru queue. After another 5 minutes I reached the voice box so that I could give my order: a large order of onion rings, a large order of plain tots, mozzarella sticks, and a plain limeade. Every one of the staff members I dealt with in the parking lot's "excess queue" and at the drive-thru were really great, so I was pleased with my first Sonic experience, even though I had to wait a while. Now, it was just a matter of how the food tasted... The first item I bit into was an onion ring, golden, crispy, not too oily, and well cooked (the onion portion was just as tasty and easily biteable). The only issue I had w/ the rings was a sweet taste indicating they probably added some sort of sweetener to the batter. The tater tots were crispy outside and mushy (like mashed potatoes) inside, a pleasant surprise from the usual tots I'm used to. They were a little too salty for my taste, and then right after the saltiness I noticed a beefy taste--like when biting into very bloody steak. I'm almost 99% sure they cook the tots in beef grease--and as a vegetarian (for health reasons) I really didn't appreciate the surprise. GRR Finally, the mozzarella sticks are just perfect: crispy outside with herb breading and delectably soft and melty inside. These I'll come back for...just skip the crappy marinara sauce--they also gave me the option of ranch dressing but I'm not a really big fan. The limeade was like a sprite on limey steroids. O Sonic! Cherry Limeades and Tater Tots!! Since moving to IL two years ago, I haven't had a Sonic til this very night. Now that I've had it, I have to say, glad to have gotten it, but I've got my fix. Sonic's burgers were never the strong suit in my mind, and they still aren't. Just a burger, not very exciting. The tater tots were PERFECT: crisp, golden, hot and salty, with fluffy interior; clearly hadn't been sitting around. And the cherry limeade tasted the same as ever: an acid-sweet slurp with the dangling cherry over the rim. The menu appears to have changed in my two years away (or perhaps they're different in various regions of the country); there are more breakfast options here (though they did away with my favorite some years back, the Pancake on a Stick, basically a breakfast corny dog with a breakfast sausage and pancake batter in place of hot dog and cornmeal batter), and there are seemingly fewer things on the dessert menu. This location has a drive-thru in addition to the typical drive-in, a smart move in the colder climes where your carhops will quickly turn into popsicles (carhopsicles?) and no one wants to sit with their window down. However, it confounds the traffic flow in the parking lot. Also, having several big trash cans at the exit is nice (though they were brimming when I was there; empty them!), but that too screws up traffic when people stop to throw out all their trash. I just wanted to leave! I noticed that at each drive-up bay there wasn't a little ledge like there were at the ones I'd been to; they used to be for trays (which they don't seem to use here; my food was just brought in a bag, though I was planning to eat there), but you could also leave your trash on them. Guess they don't want that! So I ate my #1 combo in my car like a jonesing fiend, but when it was over, it wasn't quite the sum of its parts. I felt like I was a little let down; something was missing somehow. Maybe I'm just remembering it as better than it was, or maybe I am just sated for now. Still glad I got my fix; if there was a location closer to me I might go more often, but as it is I am probably set for a while. read more

The 4 stars is for drive-in fast food service. I'm not sure there are actually all that many choices, but if that's what you want, this is the place for you. This Sonic is new and clean. The burger was Whopper sized and a good value at $2.59, and the bun was fresh. The Deluxe junior burger was also a good value for $1. The chocolate shake met expectations. It was kinda fun to order from a drive-in stall, charge with credit card, and eat in car after the carhop brought the food out. Service was quick (maybe 4 minutes on a busy Saturday). After all those damn commercials teasing us for years, we finally get a sonic in the chicagoland area. My first visit was one in missouri. I have been to this sonic in Aurora twice so far, and had an awesome experience each time. I seem to come at the right time because it takes 10 minutes or less to get through the line to sit on the patio. I have yet to try the drive thru or car ports only because I drive 40 min to get to this location and I plan on staying out here to enjoy it all. I plan on trying everything on the menu and so far I have orderd the sonic burger and grilled chicken. Both very good. I also tried the strawberry-bananna smoothie. Also good. I really don't see any negatives of the place. There are a lot staff roaming around and haven't seen these "fights" or loud immature employees reviewers have mentioned. The pricing is awesome and happy hour is a great idea. I just seem to just miss this time though, but I plan on leaving happy anyway when I visit this Sonic. My hubby and I had volunteered at the Cougars stadium for an event in 90* heat. We were outside for over 4 hours that day and were hot mess express by the end of it. My husband recommended we stop at Sonic for a treat to cool down and I was all for it. We pulled into a drive-in spot, which allows you to peruse the menu without holding up a drive-thru line. I loved this, since the last time I went to a Sonic was over 10 years ago and I had no idea what to get. Once you're ready to order, you hit a red button to speak with someone, then can charge the payment at your drive-in stall. Easy peasy! We both went with slushes- him a cherry slush, me a diet cherry. We didn't realize we got the happy hour deal (after 3pm) so out total for two giant drinks was $2 and change! WOW! The drink itself was cold and brainfreeze-inducing, but the flavor was meh. There was no zip or tang to the cherry, it was just flat and sweet. Two hour experience at a fast food restaurant. Ordered a grilled cheese, but they forgot to grill it. Ordered a cheeseburger with just cheese and pickles, but they forgot the pickles. I have come to this sonic maybe 4 times in 2 years because every single time it takes a minimum of 8 minutes before anybody takes your order, usually 10-15 waiting and then 5-10 more once you pay. I waited over 30 minutes today to place my order and when I finally got to the window they were out of 2/3 things I ordered. In doing my Yelp list of Hot Dog reviews, I had someone from outside of the general Chicago area ask me how the "Chicago Style Hot Dog" at Sonic compared to an authentic Chicago-Style Hot Dog. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't review such a large fast food chain. But due to reader request here is the review of the Sonic Chicago-Style Hot dog. The Sonic hot dog I received initially looked like the real deal, a poppy seed bun, a slice of pickle, tomato slices, onions, sport peppers, neon green relish, even well packed with a nice little slip with a window to see it. However, how it tasted was another matter entirely, the bun was soft but had a strange texture to it. The hot dog itself tasted overboiled, a lot of the flavor seemed to be missing, it appeared to be a genuine Vienna Beef hot dog though. The relish was applied way too excessively, there was very little onion, even less mustard the pickle was far too sour and cut very thick. The sport peppers were hotter than most places and just kind of sitting in the middle of the hot dog. There didn't appear to be any celery salt applied. Overall, this was a poor example of a Chicago style hot dog. While it certainly looked like one, the poor application of condiments and overcooking of the hot dog itself bring the score down. If you're looking for a real Chicago style hot dog. Avoid this. read more

The excitement of going to a Sonic for the first time was overwhelming for me. I went with a slushy mango drink... I'll be blunt: it sucked. My Dad traded with me (always the gentleman) so I got his watermelon slushy thing and it was FABU! It tasted eerily similar to my fave DQ treat... the kiwi-strawberry Mr. Misty. If I ever pass by it again I will totally be ordering some tots and another watermelon slush. OH- they really do have people give you your order on skates... even if you go through the drive through. Well we stopped by on a Saturday night and stopping by was the first mistake. Ordered a #1 and #7 with tots. After a very long wait the food arrived. It was someone else's order so after we got things sent back the server, Bryan left the drinks and what was suppose to be a Corn Dog. but it wasn't and Bryan came back and brought back our order. My mistake again since my wife's burger was not right. We decided to eat it anyway and WOW my big mistake. This place has the WORST Corn Dog and my footlong coney was actually two WAY OVER cooked hot dogs. I could hardly contain myself for Sonic. After YEARS of seeing those damn commercials the day had finally arrived...a Sonic within driving distance! "Oh happy day" I thought! At last I will be able to taste the cherry limeade that had been taunting me for so long. My bestie (who was equally as excited) and I rolled up into Sonic ready to dominate. We ordered jalapeno burgers, tots, frito pie and cherry limeade of course. We took a seat and waited in anticipation. It's here! What a major letdown. I consider myself a fast food connoisseur. Horrible, but true. First off, they brought us the wrong burgers. They did bring us our correct order, but it did not make it better. I was not impressed. The tots were "meh". The frito pie was solid in my mind and I'd gladly eat that again. I thought the cherry limeade was delish but my bff found it to be too sweet. I was so disappointed. When Sonic first opened in Aurora, I ate there for a whole week. Yes, I probably will die an early death, but the SuperSonic with mayo was worth it. Like anything that's new; the wait was ridiculous, the service sucked and the food wasn't quite Sonic quality. Almost a year later, Sonic has improved. I still think Sonics in the southern part of the US are better, but since this is one of the few in Chicagoland, I'm not complaining. The burgers are still yummy, though the tots are hit or miss. It's like Russian Roulette, you hope the first one doesn't kill you (in this case, it's with the overabundance of salt). The best part are the drinks, always good and easy to experiment with new flavors. The one drawback is this Sonic location never has mastered the overflow of cars in the parking lot. They seem to put the dumbest kid out as "traffic control" and that becomes hell in a hand basket really quick. I went there on "Free Root Beer Float Day" (to actually eat and not be a cheap bastard) and that was a nightmare traffic-wise. I would think after a year, they could've figure out the traffic situation. But sadly, they haven't.
