Two things could make Sonic a 4 star instead a 3 star drive-in. First, change the oil in the fryer! No matter what Sonic I go to, the tots (I always get tots) taste like rancid oil. There must exist some corporate policy on when to change the oil and it should be sooner rather than later! Second, get the dang card readers fixed! How many times have I rolled up, ordered, pushed to pay with card, and then having to pay with cash because the thing doesn't work. Two weeks ago I didn't have any cash so guess what? I left! The food is average, te drink menu well above average, and the soft serve ice cream is the tots. Love the ice cream. Oh, service is usually pretty decent but sometimes you look around and wonder why it's taking so long. read more

They would not honor our school earned Sonic coupon for a combo meal, even though we said we had it upon ordering. Employee brought out the meal and said the manager would not accept the coupon because we didn't mention it before ordering; however, we DID say we had a coupon while ordering. This manager (afternoon shift on 6/26/22) is the worst fast food manager ever. We kindly told the employee to take the food back in as we would be dining somewhere else. Horrible customer service, food comes out cold, evidently the employees are having too much fun inside talking and laughing and I've even been asked several times what my total is, shouldn't they know that when I order? They need some re-training or perhaps were never trained at all due to COVID? Get a responsible manager in there! I gave them the 2nd chance I never should have. The first time i was on my 30 min lunch break and when I ordered on the app 1 large Dr. Pepper. When I arrived to pick it up probably 5 minutes later, and I sat in the stall for at least 10 min before deciding to leave because I had to get back to work. My 2nd chance at sonic was today 11/17/22 when I placed an order on the app for a grilled cheese, ocean water and medium French fry. I arrived 20 minutes after I placed the order (plenty of time for it to be ready for me) however, that was not the case. I waited once again, but this time for over 15 min. Apparently wildly creative, and bold means you have lots of piercings, brightly died hair and tats, which would be fine it it was paired with the least bit of competence in doing what has to be the easiest and least skilled job on the planet. Somehow they manage to mess even that simple task up. Here's a thought... why not hire competent individuals, who care about their customers and the job they are doing. Your customers don't care about the "wild creativity" of your unskilled employees... in fact we would prefer that they were not creative at all, if it meant consistently speedy service, good food and correct orders. Not sure why I came here today. Last time I was here I left because they would answer after pushing the red button. This time I thought I would try the app. That was actually worse. I checked in when I got there. The screen showed they were working on my order. After a few minutes the screen just reset as if it was waiting for the next order. I pushed the red button. Five minutes later they answered. I told them I had placed an online order. I was told it would be right out. About 5 minutes later, I pushed the button again. Another 5 minutes later the same guy answered. I asked if they were working on my order or not. He had to ask again for my order info. Finally about about 25 minutes, I received my order. Would give zero stars if I could. They just can't get it right...to go orders are typically wrong -- wrong food, missing items you were charged for, and since they tell you they put your receipt in the bag, that usually is missing too. Probably so you have no proof of their screw ups. And don't waste your breath asking the person handing you your food if specific things are in the bag to confirm because they will tell you "yes," then surprise, surprise! When you get home you'll find they either outright lied or were just too lazy to make sure you got what you ordered. Stay away unless you like to be surprised with whatever they decide to send you home with, despite what you ordered. They either only hire people with no brains or who must be extremely lazy, or they just don't care. You can complain to their management, but nothing improves. Boerne's Sonic is not representative of all Sonics... In Boerne, I've never had a longer wait time for subpar food. The drive through line was way too long. I got a route 44 with about 1/4 of ice as expected from a Sonic regular. On another occasion, I sat in the car at one of the drive-in stations and got a very soupy Reese's Blast. I couldn't eat it. Truly the worst sonic. I always had to order an extra cup of ice because they don't put enough ice in there. I PAY FOR THE ICE, mind you. I do there 3-4 times a day in this heat and ALWAYS tip at least a dollar but usually more - even at the window. Two days ago, they decided i was getting too much ice and told me they couldn't sell me an extra cup of ice anymore because "there was something wrong with their ice machine." Bullshit. Living in Boerne, if I'm going to go to a Sonic, this is obviously the one I'll be going to. Usually we just do Happy Hour and they are extremely fast. I wouldn't normally write a review for service as expected, but I have done Happy Hour at two different Sonics in SA in the past month. I waited for about 30 minutes at both places for a drink. That is really unacceptable, particularly since neither seemed that slammed. So, in comparison, I just want to give a shout out to efficiency in Boerne. I normally don't do fast food because I fancy myself a food connoisseur but I always go to this Sonic whenever I'm in town. The food always tastes fresh. I finally asked someone who the cook was and they told me Joe - So...I want to say thanks Joe for making this specific Sonic especially good (and this is coming from the princess of dining!).
