First time eating at a Sonic tonight, mixed experience. First off, service was great. We used the drive-thru, and it was quick, and the staff was friendly. Problem was the food, which had both good points and bad. I thought some of the items on the menu were quite pricey, so we mostly went with budget items. The wraps I had were pretty good, and the Hot Dog was not bad either. I got a seasonal special shake (Peppermint Bark), which was nice, but the candy bits were too big for the straw so I kept having to pull it out and eat those and it made it hard to drink. Finally, we come to the Onion Rings. Such a fumble here. I thought they were expensive, but I was surprised by the sheer amount they gave. A Large Onion Ring was HUGE and I would consider it a good value, honestly. And the rings themselves had beautiful, thick onion in them, unlike many places that have these sad thin rings with way too much batter. The foundation there is solid, but the problem was that they had a strong taste like the deep fryer oil was WAY overdue for a change -- that bitter, greasy flavor old oil gets. Totally ruined them for me. That's a management issue or a cheap owner issue -- change your oil more often. read more

Okay, now we know to never come here or anywhere that looks weird with barely any lights. The worker that gave us the food he was nice I think the workers should be valued there. We pull in, and order. Takes a minute but other fast food joints do too. The worker came upand told us to enjoy. We did not enjoy. The hotdog, tasted like middle school lunch. Typically, this is an okay stop on the way home from Ephrata. We don't order much, but if it's food, it's usually hot and tasty. We mostly stop for beverages, half-price happy hour, amirite? But, this last visit... left a bit to be desired. I ordered a lemonade with an add-in of lime (real fruit option). The guy taking my order said they didn't have lime flavoring. I said, "What about the real fruit add-in that says lime? Can I add that?" To which, he said, "Well, we do have limes, yes." Me: "Well, that's what I want, yes. Please add limes to my lemonade, if that's possible." It doesn't translate too well, but how do you make the assumption that I wanted 'lime flavoring?' It was just out of left field. I haven't had this issue at other Sonics in the past. And it was less WHAT he said, but more HOW he said it. Like I was the guy inventing menu items or something. Very odd. Still, that's not my typical experience here, so maybe they just need more training on customer experience. Or on their own menu. Became very sick after eating a burger at the sonic in brownstone. Did not order chopped onions in oil on my burger but the sandwich was swimming with them and the oil dripped out of the sandwich on to my clothes. The onions tasted bad so I threw out 2/3 of the sandwich. But I became violently ill and it lasted most of the night. I tried to call the restaurant to warn them but there was no phone number available. The old number was disconnected. I tried calling their corporate office but could not obtain a number that reached out to a customer service person. It appears several of these sonics in Lancaster are owned by a large out of country group.??? Anyway, it was a lousy experience and we will not eat there again! read more

Wow. Food: amazing. Shakes: blew it out of the ballpark. Service: unbelievable. Chrissy was the absolutely best. When food was forgotten, she brought it right out within minutes. I never really ate Sonic because it was never close by but after moving to Ephrata it's like right down the road. This place primarily has burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches and fries or tater tots. I was craving popcorn chicken and I remembered that Sonic has them. I ordered popcorn chicken and tater tots which was really good. The popcorn chicken was more like chicken tenders but that's fine it was still good. Love the tater tots. It's a basic fast food joint but is unique from the drive-in feature. A woman came out to take our order very quickly and had fast limited contact service. Overall good experience. read more

What can I say, Sonic is just good grub. Everything is made to order & it seems like the drink options are endless. As far as food goes you'll find lots of variety there also. Whenever I see a Sonic, I just HAVE to stop by :P While putting in some gas, I noticed its sign across the street - YAY! Just like any other locations, this place offers burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, breakfast items, combos, kids meals, and shakes/limeades/slushes. I tried their Baja Jalapeno Chili Lil' Doggie with Spicy Cheese Sauce (a mini hot dog topped with the famous chili, cheese sauce, and pickled jalapenos), an order of Chili Cheese Tots, a Corn Dog, and a Cherry Limeade. This could technically be my favorite Sonic of all time, as all the food that were received were all HOT and FRESH!!! The mini dog was yummy, with its beefy hot and a kick from the spicy jalapenos; the tator tots were so crispy and the toppings were plentiful; the corn dog had a nice little crispy exterior and freshly-fried. The staff were friendly and confirmed the order a couple of times, but still make sure you have all of your items before you drive off (drive-thru and drive-in available). The food you get is great and you get a lot for relatively cheap. The service on the other hand, not so great. My boyfriend and I visited the Sonic, paid with a credit card and gave it to the guy who came with our food to the car. He took the credit card back inside, we waited five minutes and we still didn't get the card back and there were no other cars there, so they weren't busy. We hit the button where you order and asked for the credit card back, and they responded with "uhhhhh yeah we're um yeah doing that now." We eventually got our card after waiting for almost ten minutes. They were rude, unprofessional, and I did not trust them having the credit card for that long. Having lived in Akron I had to pass Sonic every day on the way to work and on the way back. ---------- FOOD: One day I decided to stop and try some ice cream. It wasnt the best Ive ever had, but it wasnt the worst either. Not bad in fact. They do have an entire menu of things to eat like burgers, dogs, fries.. you know, fast food stuff. DECOR: Its a colorful little place with stalls to pull your car in or a covered patio to sit at. No indoor seating to speak of, but they do have a drive thru. SERVICE: Sonic works like this: you pull in to a stall and talk into a drive thru like menu. You can swipe a credit card or pay the girl who delivers the food on roller skates (thats right!). ---------- FINAL THOUGHTS: The only problem I have with sonic is how to get in to it. People consistantly ignore the no left turns sign on 272 and will sit in the middle of an extremely busy road oblivious to the people who have to drive on the shoulder to get around them and apparently oblivious to horns being blown at them. Sonic, a "fast food" chain, predominantly found in the south is the Ritz-Carlton of fast food. We're talking fresh smoothies, delicious juicy beef, and my personal favorite - tots! The Ephrata Sonic totally lives up to my standards for what a Sonic should be (and I've been to several - I'm a self proclaimed expert here in the North...) It was early afternoon and I had a late breakfast so I was feeling like I needed a little nosh before heading home from the barrel project in Stevens PA near Reamstown. The sonic caught my eye as I just sat in construction traffic creeping. I have visited the Sonic on rt 30 previously on late night occasions when hungry, but was not particularly pleased. I figured I would give this Sonic a chance and ordered a bacon ranch grilled chicken sandwich combo from the drive thru. I ordered tots and coke with my combo and when I pulled up was handed a bag of hot food and the Coke in a styrofoam cup within what seemed like seconds! The food was satisfying and better than I expected. The bacon was crisp and the chicken was not dry, but juicy and tasted good. The lettuce was pale and crunchy and the tots slightly salty but I enjoyed the food and would return - they have a nice variety of choices on the menu. I would probably try one of their coffee drinks next time. read more

The food is mediocre. They have a good variety though. Lots of different desserts, drinks and shakes to choose from. The drive thru menu needs to be bigger. I almost had to get out of my car to see it but I didn't want to look like a weirdo. They need to train the staff better. I have yet to see these polite staff people are talking about. The drive thru is slow you will wait forever and not get a thank you or if you say thank you your not getting your welcome. Maybe someday that will change but I have yet to see it since it's been open. read more

When sonic first came to Akron it was great. Today was the last straw for me. I pulled up to order. The box wasn't working (hasn't for at least a month) so I had to say hello and ready to order. That isn't a big deal but I would think by now they should have had that repaired. Anyway all I wanted was 3 slushies. A large lime aid and a small one. I pulled around and waited for the car Infront of me to finish. Took about 15 minutes for me to get to the window. When I did they asked what I ordered. And then I had to wait for them to make it. I have tried the Akron Sonic numerous times now and each time I go I ask myself, why did I come here again? The food is nothing special and the quality I would rate as lower than McDonald's but the prices of the food is higher. They have some fruit slush drinks that are refreshing and maybe slightly healthier than a soda.And FYI, no free refills on drinks. I also used the restroom while I was there, and lets just say, it wasn't very clean. Never tried their ice cream, maybe thats what people find attractive. My husband and I were on a vacation in the area. We don't have a Sonic near us in RI so we wanted to give it a try. After all, I wanted to see what the hype was about. Burgers were juicy, my husband loved the onion rings, we both enjoyed the mozzarella sticks but the fries were disgusting. We are assuming there's a reason why they suggest tater tots on the menu.
