    The only game in town.
    Louisa M.

I love Sonic, but this place is terrible. Super dirty, employees who aren't very bright, and nasty food. I was driving through the Texas wasteland, and Ozona is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it very, very small town (population: around 2,600). I was starving, and the Sonic was literally the only place to eat in town that was open. I figured I'd better stop because I hadn't seen much on the road and didn't know if I'd pass other places later on, and Sonic is usually a solid place to grab a soda and some tots or a chili cheese dog. I ordered a Sonic Burger and an iced tea, a very simple order. It took FOREVER to get my food. When it was finally ready, it was the most disappointing Sonic food ever. Fast food isn't exactly high quality to begin with, but I waited while they made my food fresh -- but it tasted old and sad. Even worse, the customers were super sketchy, and there were a lot of creepers hanging around outside. I had gone outside to get some fresh air since I was waiting so long, and I hurried my behind back inside. I didn't feel super safe here as a female traveling alone.

Stopped in as it was Tesla charging station. The place was pretty empty, so my husband and I ordered food and sat down. I guess the employees didn't know we were still inside (or maybe they didn't care) but they were having a loud conversation about how they were racist. My husband and I are both minorities, so we felt VERY uncomfortable.

Only thing in town to get. Food took about 20 minutes for 4 items. If I hadn't already paid we would have left.

Though small and quiet, this little grill puts out really good food. My daughter kept it simple with a dry cheeseburger. It comes with a side of fries that are cooked fresh, but maybe needed some time to breathe or dash a little bit of salt. The burger was cooked really well though. Noah enjoyed his carne asada tacos. Liz ordered the Potosino nachos, which were like a loaded nachos. Loaded means it came with beans, grill d tomato and jalapeno, thin slices of skirt steak, and cheese. It looked good, and I grabbed a few at the begining. I really enjoyed my Potosino plate. It was the same thing slices of skirt steak, grilled onion, jalapeno, and tomato that was on the nachos, but my plate came with Spanish and refried beans. (Same as Noah's kid taco plate). So, why the 3? It's a small place, and the dining area can be overwhelmed by a rush. Though the folks that knew were just getting food to go. There's about 7 tables/booths for 4 each, and it got crowded right after we sat down and ordered. Hey, if I can't get my coffee refilled without asking, well... Overall, I did enjoy the food. The place was clean and comfortable. It was the lack of speedy service was on no way a deal killer, but when you're on the EP to SA road trip time management can matter. First of all, let me just say that Dawn, the owner, and her son, Curtis (the chef) have a totally charming place inside and I had one of the best burgers EVER! You know when you have a hankerin' for a cold Dr. Pepper on ice? Well, this one was a PERFECT mix of the syrup and fizz! My husband had the patty melt on rye (comes with mozzarella instead of Swiss) and he said it was A+, too. Btw, Dawn named the restaurant JoJo's because of her pet monkey of the same name, and his picture is everywhere. Plus I had the joy of talking to 6 year old Emily about mermaids. If I ever pass through El Dorado again, I will definitely stop here again. Home cooking at it's yummiest!

I used the drive through on a Saturday evening. Service (4/5): Since I used the drive through, rather than dining in (there's plenty of parking), service wasn't a big part of the experience. With that being said, I was greeted almost immediately upon pulling up, once I asked for a few minutes, I received a polite response, and my order came out as it should have. All in all, the lady taking my order did a great job. Which isn't always the case, as we know some fast food workers don't care at all about their jobs. This wasn't the case here. Ketchup and napkins included without asking. Ambiance (N/A): I mean it's fast food, so you know, not really a romantic spot. But, even when at a fast food joint, you want it to be clean. Since I didn't go inside, I can't talk about how things are here. Drinks (N/A): I didn't order a drink, but if you're at Dairy Queen, a milkshake is the way to go. Food (2.5/5): Some good and some bad here. I'll start with the food. My food was piping hot, which means it was freshly fried rather than sitting under a heat lamp for a while. This is always a nice touch at a fast food restaurant, and not by any means guaranteed. I went with the chicken fried steak fingers basket which comes with Texas toast, fries, and warm white gravy. Props to Dairy Queen for a Texas classic, chicken fried steak, in fingers form. You can choose between four or six fingers. I went with six. Which is a lot. I was stuffed after consuming this meal. The steak fingers are also quite heavy, so I wasn't feeling great afterwards. But hey, it did what I wanted. Filled me up while I was on the road. Dairy Queen isn't in the upper echelon of fast food joints in my mind, but I will give it mid-tier status. While I didn't get any ice cream while I was there, given that I had dessert earlier that day, it's what they're known for.

There's a covered patio with a few tables in the front and a couple large tables that could each easily fit eight people, and a small 2-top. They brought us out complimentary chips and salsa. What a nice surprise. The chips were warm and the salsa was delicious-- bright, flavorful, and with just the right amount of kick (mild heat but not too spicy; your three-year-old might not be a fan but my husband who doesn't normally like too spicy enjoyed it). I ordered my staple whenever I visit a diner/cafe for the first time-- the Patty Melt with mustard and mayo on the side (this condiment combination on the side is winning with a patty melt, btw ). They offer all the veggies with it but I just ordered mine with sautéed onion. The food took a little bit but we weren't in a hurry and when it came out it was nice and hot. My Patty Melt was served on a buttery grilled Texas Toast with a side of fries and it was oh so good. Loved the variation of Texas Toast in place of Rye bread. It was seasoned well and both classic and unique. Made with love! The fries had a good balance of crispy and soft inside. My husband and son ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and were really happy with it. My husband said that it tasted like a "Texas Burger." Doesn't that say it all, though. The women working inside were kind and welcoming. They chatted with us and were helpful whenever we asked questions about the menu. They gave us a sweet Texas goodbye on our way out and told us to drive carefully like sweet Texas mamas do. My only critique would be that the bathroom needed some attention but, besides that, our experience was good and we wouldn't hesitate to stop in again knowing the folks are kind and will feed ya' well.

We were very skeptical about the quality of the food so we decided to order their Chicken Quesadilla with avocado and light cheese to share. The service was quick and accurate with our order. Due to us being skeptical we planned to just have a proper lunch elsewhere, but that all changed the moment we both took our first bite. Immediately we looked at each other and knew we had to order a second plate of this Chicken Quesadilla. We immediately called over the lady and asked for a second plate. The place was very well decorated, we especially liked the glass shelf casing with the comics. We noticed many locals began to enter and they seemed to be on top of getting everyone situated nicely. They don't use lard which some people will love, but flavor wise it felt a little flat. Guac was sad. We ordered the three scoops and got a small portion buried under a mountain of lettuce for no reason. Salsa with the chips was bland and the chips themselves were just... there. Now plot twist, the salsa that came with the burritos was actually good. Not life changing but definitely better than the starter situation. Service was great and there's a cute house kitty out front greeting you like it's on payroll, which honestly boosted the whole experience. Overall, cool spot with personality. The woman couldn't eat spicy foods and her burger was covered with spicy items. She took it up to the woman taking orders and the woman refused to do anything. Wow.) The restrooms, wood sides along booths, pickle table and the condiments/tables need a serious cleaning - there is grossness abounding. Onions: you can leave them thick for the onion rings but if you're putting a slice of onion on my burger you better slice it thin. Nobody needs a huge half inch thick slice of onion in the middle of a burger. PRO: The burger was cooked to perfection.
