I've been to this Sonic location 3 times, and 2 out of the 3 times the workers messed up our order, which resulted in a whole mess of confusion. I feel like the only reason nothing went wrong the last time I came was because we only ordered one item. If they messed that up ... If you've been to any Sonic location, you know that the ordering process is different from most fast food locations. Park at any one of their slots, press a button when you're ready to order, and pay where you're parked. One of the workers will come out when your order is ready to give you all your food. Unfortunately once you make an order and want to add/remove items, it's not so simple because the payment is done by the machines thus ensuing in chaos. The first time I ordered 2 different milkshakes during their Happy Hour - butter toffee and chocolate chip cookie dough (due to the ominous finals week that was well approaching). Apparently some of their ice creams couldn't come in mini sizes and some could, but when the orders came out, they had forgotten to put chocolate chips into the chocolate chip cookie dough. It was just a plain cookie dough ice cream. And it tasted horrible like Play-doh. The butter toffee was good! Super sweet and super yummy. Came back to order some more ice cream with my friends on another night. We had three different orders, one of which was a mint Oreo. The mint is supposedly green, but when it came out, none of the ice cream drinks were green. When we asked the worker, she was so confused that she called out another worker to assist her. Somehow we finally got the order correct, but it resulted in melted ice cream. tl;dr - Yeah, the Happy Hour and late night deals might be worth it, but I feel like there's a communication problem between the workers and the customers which almost always results in messed up orders. read more

They are always ridiculously slow, no matter how busy they are when we go. They've gotten our order wrong multiple times, and the employees seem pretty clueless. Last time we went they asked us what we wanted before we even pressed the red button, then the charge didn't go through for some reason. Turns out they charged us twice for the same order, and they had to issue us a refund. This was after waiting at least 20 minutes for a shake and a custard. Another time I tried to get a green chile cheesburger with bacon, and they forgot the bacon, but charged me for it anyway. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed. read more

Orderd the new Garlic Butter Bacon Burger. I love anything garlicky. But this was a hot mess. My burger was sooo soggy and it tasted like either the meat or butter had turned bad. Had a rancid taste that made me throw it away. Very disappointing. My kid ordered chicken bites and onion rings. Everything was cold, but the chicken was edible. The onion rings are made of the chopped onion..disgraceful. And it was expensive! About $16 for cold, rancid food and 2 drinks..shame on you Sonic! read more

Service sucks. Girl cut me off & posted my total to be paid after my wife ordered and then refused to answer the button so I could make my enormous order of a sonic blast. I paid the total thinking I would get service to order my own sonic blast but was repeatedly cut off. Update, after an extended wait and pausing the button repeatedly, they finally answered the bottom call again and cut me off immediately when I asked if I could finish the order. My wife got out to see if there was a reason we couldn't get to finish our order & they had no answer, just shoulder shrugs. Won't be coming back here. So this was my first time eating at Sonic that people always speak rave about. (Not this location in particular...just Sonic as a whole). The service was nice aside from not being able to really hear the person taking the order in the speaker. The girl that brought out our food was pleasant. The bacon double cheeseburger was pretty freaking good. Fries were way too salty for me. And I ordered a medium but to me it looked like a small. Al in all I would go back if there was nothing else and needed something quick. I'd definitely go here before going to McDonalds or Burger King for sure. I love how they toast the bread on the burger. That won me over for sure. read more

In Portales for ENMU Graduation. I get it's busy in town but all I ordered was 3drinks waited probably 20mins. When the carhop brought our drinks one was watered down as if it had just been sitting inside and they forgot about it. I use to live here in Portales and I'm in town visiting for my sisters graduation. I'm very disappointed at how this sonic's service was. First let me State the reason they get one star is because whenever you go to this particular Sonic they managed somehow to get your order wrong and they really don't get it. And for not Portales lack of restaurants they probably wouldn't get any business. You can go there they will either manage to get the actual food order wrong they will get the size wrong they will get the quantity wrong or they will get the check wrong and what really makes it bad if they really don't seem to really care and they will look at you like you are bothering them because you just want the order right they need to fire the manager whoever it is they need to talk to all the employees about people would just like adequate service and don't stand there waiting for a tip especially when you bring the order wrong read more
