The buffet isn't what's impressive about this place, but the fresh made-to-order stir fry Mongolian grill. You can load up your plate with veggies and they'll cook it then and there. I have rarely liked Chinese buffet places, but this one impressed me, and it's completely possible to have a nutritious meal here. Parking is the only issue you will encounter. Be cautious when pulling in to the right store front side. Pros: Very friendly customer service, 3 row buffet selection, plenty of seating and a Mongolian grill with one solid row of choices. I'm not a big fan of the buffet options, but the Mongolian grill quality and prep time is A+ to me. Cons: Parking. That is my only real complaint here. When the city of Portales decided to waste money on anti-skid high resistance high quality streets, they didn't take all business into consideration. The rub assigned to this business eats close to or more than 1/3rd of the available store front parking space. If you turn in to the far right store side parking, you will get a bumper full of curb. The other available parking is across either street or flush with a burnt out building. Kind of a bummer. This is in no way the stores fault. We love how we can create our own chinese dish with meat or not, veggies, noodles, mushrooms and peppers and then take it to the grill to be stir fried. The chef always asks how spicy you want it, too! You can stand at the grill and watch your dinner be cooked or sit down at your table. If you don't check back in time, the cook will bring your dish to you. They also have the usual chinese buffet offerings. We always find plenty to eat that tastes great! read more

I'm always looking for a buffet when I'm on the road after a long day of work. I've seen some sketchy places, this one maybe more sketchy than any others. I almost didn't go in. Inside was very basic, but clean. The food wasn't real fresh but the flavors were good and they had some twists on some of my favorites. Not the greatest, but not the worst. I think this place should be called a Chinese restaurant but they have a Mongolian grill in addition to their buffet. The buffet is decent. The food isn't overly spectacular but it is fairly good for being located in rural New Mexico. The hot and sour soup isn't particularly good. Many of the dishes feature shrimp, chicken, and beef. There aren't as many vegetables at this restaurant. The service is not all that great. You probably will only get one glass of water for the time that you are there so don't drink it all at once. The employees aren't all that friendly either. But if you don't care about the service then it's a decent place. read more

I don't always visit Portalas, but when I do, I eat at Panda. Their buffet has so many good choices. My favorite is the peanut chicken. Favorite Chinese place in NM, if not the US. Funny I never choose the Mongolian grill part, there buffet just has so many good options. read more

I want to share my experiences at the Panda. Portales has two small Chinese restaurants...both offer good food at fair prices. I have become a special fan on the Panda for several reasons. The owners/servers are among the nicest people you ever could meet. Hard working and always attentive to your needs. The place is always clean an well-kept. The food is consistently good...and even includes a tray of sushi (Caifornia-like rolls) that are quite tasty...Jackie, the male server, was a sushi chef in NYC and Dallas before family brought him to New Mexico. I always have the Mongolian Grill...fresh meats and veggies prepared to my specifications. Prices are very reasonable...three of us just gorged for about $20. Parking is tight...but there is space across the street...only good things to say. read more
