It's extremely disappointing to write this review as this gym has all the potential of being a great gym. I have been a member for 2 years and it went from 5 stars to 1. - 75% of the time there are no towels - 50% of the time there are no paper towels or toilet paper - TVs are often stuck and not playing - paper towels containers in the gym are empty The cost of membership is $100 and you would think the premium cost would at least assure that the basics would always be solid. They took away the towels to clean the equipment, now we have to use paper towels but as of right now they are ALL empty! This place started out as a decent gym but has become a shambles. On the upside they offer a lot of cardio and circuit training machines. They also have classes that you pay for if you are a basic member. The downside is with exceptions of one older gentleman who is constantly cleaning, it seems no one else really cares. Their only concern is making sure only members enter. Additionally basic things like fans are broken and every clock is on a different time. When you ask someone about it they tell you they have lost the remote. Towels for showers are usually no where to be found and the lockers are broken. It took a year to fix a broken toilet. The gym does offer 24 hour access and memberships to minors who tie up weight machines on their phones. I like the gym, it is clean and staff are friendly. The only problem is the app to use after hours access is completely trash. I always have issues using my pass key and if you don't use it for 30 days you lose it, you then need to have a staff member resend you access. It is just really annoying that the most appealing feature that I am paying a higher rate for (in comparison to all the other gyms), never is actually accessible. As a registered nurse, the first thing I want do after a long shift is to get a workout in. Training has been essential to my physical and mental health. So, it was important for me to find a gym that I considered my home-away-from-home. I have been both a platinum and gold member at Sonoma Fit Novato and have been going 4-5 times a week. Initially, I signed up to be a platinum member. Eventually I realized I was not participating in the classes at all and I found I wasn't using the 24/7 access as much as I thought. So, I "downgraded" my membership to Gold. At the time of writing this review, I have checked in 170 times so I can assure you my review carries a sense of accuracy. The front desk staff is always friendly and welcoming - many even remember my name which I love (considering I am not the most social person). As far as my review goes, it should be noted I only use the free weights and strength training equipment (not the classes). Because the business is relatively new, all the equipment is in excellent condition. That being said, whenever there was an issue with equipment functioning properly, it was fixed very quickly. Personally, the longest I have seen a piece of equipment down for was about 24 hours. There was also one occasion when I was a platinum member and the 24/7 access capability went down. I was waiting at the front door at 430AM for it to be fixed which I will admit was annoying. However, Sonoma Fit Novato fixed the issue promptly. That issue only happened once in the time I was a platinum member. There are several power racks and two deadlift platforms with plenty of straight barbells and one trap bar. Also, there's two flat benches and at least 12 different adjustable and fixed benches/seats to use for free weights - it seems they are always adding more. In addition, there are a ton of custom dumbbells from 5lbs to 120lbs with more than adequate knurling on them. There are fixed weight, E-Z curl barbells ranging from probably 20lbs-110lbs (in 10lb increments). Multiple TVs are placed throughout the workout area (if that's your thing). One smith machine. At least a two dozen pieces of both Hoist and Atlantis (great quality) plate loaded and selectorized strength training machines. A large 8-stack multi-station with lat pull downs, seated rows, and various cable attachments. There is also an additional functional trainer (dual cable machine). I love the variety - I have tried them all out at least once. They have reusable hand towels for wiping down machines and spray bottles with cleaning solution at each machine. I have noticed very good adherence from other members regarding cleaning their equipment when finished. I have personally never used the showers. But as a former fitness studio manager myself, I can vouch that the bathrooms are cleaned well and always stocked with the proper supplies. For cardio, there are probably 5-6 treadmills, about 4 stair masters and 6-8 ellipticals. There are a couple of spin bikes in the general fitness area (they have spin classes with more bikes, too). Each piece of cardio equipment (aside from the spin bikes and stair masters) comes equipped with a built in TV. Yes, the membership rate is certainly higher than other gyms in the area. However, I feel confident in saying that no other gym in Marin County has the same quantity or quality of equipment that Sonoma Fit Novato has. Also, just the general weight/strength training area alone is a massive space. Even during the busiest of hours it doesn't feel crowded as it could be at other gyms. With all of these factors in consideration, I find no issue with the current membership rate. My only gripe is that I wish they had a gold level membership with 24/7 access. I can't comment on the classes, but if you are looking for a clean, friendly gym to frequent for general strength training, powerlifting, bodybuilding or cardio workouts, then I would highly recommend Sonoma Fit Novato. They are a great local business that I love supporting. If I ever move out of the area, I will surely miss this place. read more

In my 5 or so decades of being a gym member, this is by far the worst experience I've ever had! I joined during covid and was happy to be at this gym because the equipment was the best I've seen and they had both good Pilates and Yoga instructors! However, I send numerous emails complaining about things like lack of towels and equipment that never got repaired - probably sent 5-6 emails that never even were acknowledged. Then, when the owner canceled a yoga class, a number of yogis wrote in to complain - the owner took offense and got into a shouting argument with one (very peaceful yogi) and canceled her membership. He finally replied to one of my emails very defensively - when I wrote back saying he has 'constructive criticism' confused with hate (there was nothing hateful in any of our messages), instead of responding, he charged me $1000 to my bank account - I got an alert from BofA so I went in the next morning and inquired - the young lady working at the desk brought up my account and there it was on the screen: BEING A DICK FEE - $1000 - he even typed it in capital letters! Needless to say, I'm out of there, as are all the other yogis - this guy lost about 20 people (paying $110 or more a month) - and the yoga instructor has left. I can't imagine this club being viable for too much longer and the owner should definitely NOT be in a people business as he has absolutely no clue what customer / member services is like! Pros: cleaned gym. Cons: Some of the guys that work at the front are friendly but don't know much when about memberships details so direct you to a manager. Even though they say it takes 24hrs for management to respond, it actually took them longer. The women working at the front are rude and when I have asked questions they never want to direct me to anyone else, one of them even hung up the phone. I ended my membership and had only a couple weeks left on it but they still charged me for the annual fee. They said it's on the contract which I understand but wish they could do something for people who are not in the position to keep paying anymore. The classes are not challenging enough, at least not for me, and very repetitive. Instructors are nice but are constantly late or finish classes early. I have complained at the front desk and even out it on the survey I get after the end of each class and I still haven't heard back. For the price you pay for the platinum membership I expected more. There's a lot of inconsistencies and unprofessionalism which is unfortunate because I had high hopes for it. read more

I've seen a couple look like they don't have any expressions or maybe it's the fact they are not morning people. No worries. 2. Yes there are some people are nice and some are not so friendly (will give you looks even if you ask them kindly if they are using an equipment or the space). Maybe I step into someone bad mood or just not having a good day. I notified and they told me to report it but At the end of the day, what can you do. It's over and just move on. 3. I've used the locker rooms and bathrooms. In the beginning it was slightly clean but now they are working on it. 4. People don't clean or spray after using the equipments. I know you can't control this but maybe a reminder or use your IG, to create a cleaning video etc. Something to help others that we don't want to workout on something you use your sweat on haha. I was one of the founding members at Sonoma Fit Novato but left in July of 2024 due to angry and awful management. I thought for sure that I would never go back because in my entire life I have never been in a gym that was so hostile, dirty and disrespectful of its clients. Then ........around December of 2024 I started hearing that the management had changed and there was a whole new sheriff in town there. I had to go see for myself and the minute I walked in I could feel the difference. The front desk was friendly, helpful and ready for business. Jenny (the owner) really cares about the gym and I want to help her succeed because there really isn't any gym in Novato that compares to this one. The instructors are top notch and able to modify workouts if necessary. There is a variety of classes and more are getting added as time goes on. There's early morning, late morning, evening and night time classes. You also get 24 hour access with an app and you are able to work out on top notch equipment. So.......if you were like me and took off when you know who was running this place to the ground......please come back and give it a try. The fees were even reduced back down as well. read more

I will start by saying that I do like the equipment. It is modern and enjoyable, however, what I've had to endure the past few months is absolutely horrendous. I have been going here for about three years and recently moved so I had to cancel my membership. It's been three months and they still have not canceled my membership and have been charged more and more every month. I call every time to ask them to please cancel my membership. Every time they reassure me that it will be taken care of but they will still charged me the next month. Prices have gone up and I am still being charged even though I live nowhere close to this facility anymore and I have done all of the actions plus more to cancel my membership. To say that I am very upset is an understatement. I have now been charged over $400 for a facility that I don't even use and I have been told multiple other sources that I will probably not be getting a refund unless I bring legal action into play. I loved this gym and the classes, but all the 6am classes at Novato got cancelled so I cancelled my membership. It's been three months since I cancelled and I am still getting charged. It's impossible to get a hold of anyone to help me cancel and anytime I do, they assure me it'll get taken care of, and unfortunately it has not. I just tried to call again and the voicemail box is full. All of the staff that I have interfaced with are very nice, but it seems that their hands are tied and the people who can actually cancel my membership and control the payments are limited and impossible to get in contact with. DO NOT JOIN this gym! My husband and I have been members for a few months and we just cancelled our membership because the place is dirty, has no windows, no basketball court, no sauna, the place is full of gym bros, and the outdoor area is just overgrown weeds on cheap uneven warped wooden planks on even cheaper Astro turf. Watch out for the gym bros because they take over the equipment, grunt really loudly, and cause fights. One to the fitness instructor's husband (I think his name is Rich who's like 50 yrs old) got into a fight with a 20 year-old over who wanted to stand on the Astro turf. I'm not kidding, that really happened because I saw it. Rich was acting like a jerk and the young guy just ignored him but Rich got right in his face (literally) and tried to provoke him. I have no idea if Rich had steroid rage but Rich is the husband of one of Sonoma Fit's trainers so the whole thing was totally unacceptable. That's only one example of fights in the gym but there are plenty more. The gym has no dedicated cleaning staff or dedicated custodial service to clean the gym. The floors in the changing rooms are permanently dirty and never cleaned. My husband says the floors in the men's changeroom is even worse. The toilets are always clogged, in the mensroom, the urinals are always smelly with urine all over the floor. Hello....hire a dedicated cleaning crew. The front-end staff are expected to do all the cleaning and guess what they don't do it! The gym has a mask policy but they don't enforce it. At all times, at least 75% of the people working out aren't wearing any masks. Most don't even bring a mask to the gym because Sonoma Fit doesn't enforce their own mask policy. With all the stuff going around, if you want to get sick this is the place to be. They have already been cited by Sonoma County on more than one occasion for violating the state mandated mask policy. The classes are a joke too, so don't even waste your time. At either $99/month or $129/month I expect a better level of service and better gym amenities. We cancelled our membership and we are very happy we did. This place is a waste of money. There are much better gyms for way less. read more

It's always really cold in there and the 24/7 access doesn't work very well (and its unstaffed so you get stuck outside with no help). The staff aren't helpful. Went and checked out the gym and the equipment is newer but not worth the $100 monthly membership. When I was there no one in the gym was wearing a mask and the staff have been told not to do anything about it. According to the Marin County Public Health Officer: "Marin County is held to California's statewide mask mandate, which requires that ALL people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear face coverings in indoor spaces. Marin businesses are to comply with California Department of Public Health's face covering guidance. Therefore, all previous exemptions for small groups of fully vaccinated people were removed and Marin is unable to implement less restrictive policies than the State's mandate." I called the Marin County Public Health Dept. and they told me they have no plans to change the mask mandate. I don't want to get sick so I won't be joining this gym and because this gym isn't enforcing the Marin County mask mandate I'm telling all my friends not to join either. read more

I'm so happy this gym opened! When the shutdowns took place my Pilates gym was shut down for a very long time- too long for my comfort of not being able to workout. After things opened again me and my family joined here. Once I found my fav instructor I'm hooked! I love the energy the classes have and everyone who comes is ready to sweat and give their all! Zueley the instructor for my fab classes kettle ball and boot camps really makes the class work hard and it pays off! If anything ever breaks or needs attention, it never stays that way for long. This place is not friendly. When I try to call to discuss a fee management is always in a "meeting". They just didn't want to deal with me. I have cancelled my membership and they will not prorate my fee. The funny thing is they say they can but just don't want to. All they care about is $$ and not customer services. They will charge your account with one day notice and not care what you have to say! So many other places to go. They don't even deserve a one star! As always, buyer beware. My 16 year-old son wanted to join this gym, so we both went down, figuring I could sign a waiver (as most gyms offer) and my boy could train there. Well, scam #1, I had to join also. Fairly expensive for both of us. I did not use the gym but my boy did. As COVID forced most places to close, I figured the autopay I had going on would be halted. Nope, not once. I called and emailed multiple times....nothing. I finally even when to my bank and put a stop payment on the ATM card. Low and behold they had the number and still took out the funds.
