Avoid Retreat at Bothell - Unprofessional Management and Terrible Experience…read more I lived at Retreat at Bothell for 2.5 years, and to say my experience was horrible would be an understatement. Throughout my stay, I had multiple unpleasant encounters with the leasing office over issues that could have easily been resolved with basic professionalism and courtesy. Unfortunately, that was rarely the case. Noise was a constant issue--particularly from the neighbors upstairs--but the tipping point came when rent hikes were introduced without meaningful improvements to justify them. I decided to move out in February, and at that point, I was fully paid up and in good standing. Despite this, the management withheld my $1,000 security deposit and came up with exaggerated repair charges, eventually telling me I would only receive around $190 back. To make matters worse, they issued the refund check with the guarantor's name on it--someone who does not even live in Washington--making it impossible for me to cash. Since February, I have been chasing them for a corrected check. It's now mid-July, nearly five months later, and I still haven't received anything. The leasing office continues to give me the runaround with vague explanations that make no sense. I strongly urge anyone considering living here to read through all the reviews carefully--many others share similar experiences. Between poor management, unjustified fees, and lack of accountability, Retreat at Bothell has been one of the worst housing experiences I've ever had. Avoid this place at all costs.

I don't know who the other guy lives next too but this place is super quiet. Maybe since his review in 2011 things have changed. The people here are pretty quiet and private. The people above and on both sides of my unit are so quiet I thought no one lived in them until my neighbor knocked on the door to invite me to attend the resident meeting. The grounds are very well maintained and I don't mind people fixing up thier cars as long as there are no junkers left in the lot. Instead, there are 2 super cool mustangs, a cherry VW and an old Porshe along with my Prius. There is an awesome boat dock here and I was told I was welcome to use it...aside from parking a boat in someones spot, but what do you expect. I have a kyak and I love paddling up the river to Bothell or heading out to Lake Washington...and what is not to love about feeding ducks or fishing 100 feet from your front door. PLUS the Burke-Gilman trail is 100 feet away from the other side of the building, Safeway is 2 blocks away, Mc'Ds, Subway, Pagliacci, Starbucks, great Chinese food, parks, etc all within a few blocks. The only downside is that the building is pretty old but that means the walls are nice and thick. I have a washer/dryer in my unit but there is also a nice laundry room and a pretty big meeting room that is free to all residents. I think a lot of owners have been remodeling thier units so this place has improved since the economy tanked. My unit has new hardwood floors and windows and I have heard others working as well. I think Kenmore is a hidden secret. The people are so friendly it's like a small town here at the top of the lake. I hung out at the Tully's on Bothell HWY and like 5 people started talking to me. That does not happen too often in the city. I moved up here from Greenlake after the 520 tolls were killing me and I could not be happier.

The building is older, but well maintained, the docks may be used by tenants, but not the moorage, there is always plenty of parking, there are rules about noise and other undesirable behavior, all one has to do is complain and the appropriate steps are taken, as per the rules outside of the laundry room. The board is all volunteer, and I think people forget that they have a life too, but they do take care of stuff! I absolutely love the location next to the Burke Gilman trail, park-n-ride and Sammamish slough! Compared to other small affordable complexes, this one is pretty darn good!

He followed my kids home after school, and when I asked him why he said it was because they were letting people in the building using a service entrance and the service elevator. Strange behavior for them especially since the service doors would be out of their way, but sometimes kids get into stuff. I reprimanded them, and they took their punishment while still maintaining that they were innocent. After I moved out a parent from the elementary school told me about the incident because she was there. Our kids are friends. She still lives there so I won't say who. I don't want Michael to retaliate against her. She is another person of color. My children, her, and her children came in the north lobby. When they got in the elevator Michael blocked the doors from closing, and forced everyone out. He then grilled my children about their identities and where they lived. He forced them to re-enter their latch code and then followed them to our door. When I asked him about it today he left out that they were using a service entrance and said it was the north lobby entrance. Which is it? It's not hard to remember the truth. He continued to downplay the experience, and that is exactly the kind of thing that makes people with his mindset so dangerous. This property and my experience here I would consider perfect if it wasn't for Michael making my children uncomfortable and afraid to walk past the front desk. If I didn't have to leave because the cost was too much to handle after getting laid off, I would 100% have broken my lease because of his presence. Donald is amazing. Heather is lovely. The entire maintenance team is fantastic! There are very little issues with neighbors other than the occasional loud/rowdy nights that happen. There was an uptick of inside smokers and people who left trash in inappropriate places as we were moving out. Hopefully those issue get resolved for the tenants.

It's such a scam and unprofessional. You rent an apartment and hoping that everything will work in the apartment. But no, after the first use of the sink in our apartment, we found out that our garbage disposal needs to be replaced. Why would we need to find out the first night we stayed? They did change it, but only on the third day. We weren't able to wash dishes and use the sink in the kitchen, plus it was all stinking. They did fix it, but the maintenance person left track-in dirt from shoes on the floor. Will it be acceptable if it were your home? Days later we found out that our Room Darkening Vinyl Blinds were broken before us. And they fixed it by putting tape on it. Is it even normal? It's our second week in that apartment and I have no idea what to expect next. I do understand that it's not a brand-new apartment, but you can't let anybody rent it without fixing it.

Hello! I've lived at…read moreThe 101 for a number of years, and generally enjoyed the experience. Both Dee and Joe are wonderful people. The complex is no longer livable. A construction site has been erected next door, and the noise and shaking is incredible. It begins, every weekday, at 7:00 a.m. and the beeping/slamming/crashing cannot be drowned out even with earplugs. Just for laughs, I checked the decibel level in my apartment at 8:30 a.m.; with no appliances running and seated at my desk (approximately 15 feet away from a closed sliding-glass door), the decibel meter read a very respectable 70 decibels. For the people who will rush to dispute this review, that's about the sound of a running vacuum or hair dryer. Except, of course, those noises generally don't persist for 8-10 hours per day. Oh, and they don't tend to physically shake the unit, either. I cannot open my sliding glass doors for ventilation because of the dust and smoke from the site -- but that's okay because I'm sure I'm getting plenty of it, even with all the rain, through the ventilation ducts. The unit's balcony might be a selling point, except it's unusable during daylight hours. The property manager was condescending, suggesting to me this long-term construction is part of the landscape. Pillar Properties is unwilling to accept the notion this construction has dramatically impaired my ability to function in the apartment. Meanwhile, I am immunocompromised and quarantined for the duration of the Covid pandemic. Even if I were vaccinated and able to move, the Pillar folks won't discuss an early termination of the lease. So I'm here with the banging and clanging and shaking for eight more months. To the point: Hello, devil. Welcome to hell! (And anyone who's thinking of moving here, know that construction has just begun and won't be completed until 2022 or 2023.)

My 87 year old, very picky brother moved in the beginning of 2025 and he is DELIGHTED with his new life at the Sequoias. It is big enough to have four floors, with a total of 57 apartment homes, but small enough to allow for a very close knit community. The residents are friendly; singles and couples live there. There are many activities to choose from including games and talks and once a month birthday celebrations, all conducted in a spacious community room with kitchen. They also have community potlucks. Four important things to note, it is NO LONGER A SHAG COMMUNITY (the building is privately owned by someone who cares deeply that all the residents enjoy this community which they've carefully selected to call home) The second thing is that it is an INDEPENDENT living apartment community, ergo any suggested/provided activity is a bonus. Additionally, it is perfectly located, almost hidden away next to a Safeway, Post Office and a block from the Kenmore Library. Lastly, it is darn affordable!! Has anyone looked at the prices of over 55 apartment communities?! Oh, did I mention they have underground parking? Needless to say, my brother who has been a homeowner most of his life is pleased as punch to be living here.
