Almost every place I have dealt with had patients lined up in the hallways, totally unattended - I guess as long as they're out of their rooms, It could be marked up as some level of care. It's hard to fault the caregivers because their hours are horrible and the working conditions are truly awful - but there are never administrators around to take your anger out on. I am happy to say that none of these conditions appear to exist at Astoria - quite the opposite in fact. This is the only place I have ever been to where the administrators are always around, they treat their residents and families like their own. I have never encountered so many wonderful, caring, genuinely kind people as those who work at Astoria. My mother-in-law has been a resident at the Oakdale facility since April 2024. She doesn't want to be there, she wants to be in her own home but unfortunately her condition does not allow her that luxury anymore. Every time I visit her, the staff greet us cheerfully, they respond to her needs within a few minutes, and they go out of their way to treat her with respect.

The facility is clean and beautiful, with a very fresh and friendly atmosphere. He had his own room, which was airy and light. We were able to decorate the room with his own furniture and pictures, so that it still felt like his own space. There are plenty of engaging activities promoting a happy social life. The meals were tasty and nutritious and varied so as not to become monotonous. The real stars are the staff. Everyone working at Park Merced excelled in kindness, patience and professionalism. It takes a special person to have the patience to work with memory care residents and Park Merced's employees really excel. I would recommend this facility to anyone in need of a safe, clean, well-run facility for the care of their seniors.

Although all are welcome, regardless of religious belief or affiliation, there is a Catholic Mass celebrated in the chapel each weekday morning. Now it isn't a standard nursing home so there are things…read morethat are different, like they can't give residents certain over the counter meds-stuff like that. Your room is like your own apartment so you need to provide all furnishings and linens, laundry services are included. Level of care needed for each resident can vary-along with the costs. Anything outside of your contract is added to your monthly fees, naturally. But can be a surprise if you're not aware so be careful what you ask for that's off contract. Yeah it's expensive but OMG you get what you pay for! Help. Yes. There's help when you call for it and they are there freaking immediately. It's a different world. It's next level care with compassion and humor and just outright lovely people. My dad was only there a little over 3 weeks and I was amazed at what I saw. Staff that stopped by to chat with him. Talked to him about things they were doing (telling him the next step so he was prepared) asked him questions and directly helped him based on his answers. They always follow their protocol-2 people for this task, one person in this area at all times, etc. Etc. They all took such great care of him, kept him clean and comfortable. I hate that he only had his last few weeks there, I wish I could have found this place sooner. There are all kinds of daily activities and things residents can do plus family dinner nights where you can order special meals for visitors and eat together. Other times you can hang out in your room if you want or the TV room, it's totally up to you. My dad was on the memory care side which doesn't have free access for residents to leave that wing, visitors have to be buzzed in & out. It's nice, airy, clean and decorated beautifully in all the public areas. I really miss some of the ladies that worked there too, like the memory care Director-Crystal, the techs Brigitte & April just to name a few. They kept me sane and kept me going. They really make you feel like you're at home and they are always smiling and having a great time with the residents. I have brought my Photobooth to several of their events that they have for their residents and have always left with my heart feeling so full. Lots of amazing people all under one roof.
