Sonya is an absolutely amazing wedding photographer! We are so grateful for the incredible photos that she captured of our special day. When we first reached out to Sonya, she sent us her wedding photography collections to get an idea of her style, and set up a call so we could chat about what we were looking for and ask any questions. Sonya's photography style is natural and beautiful, and initially prompted us to reach out. After talking with her, we knew we wanted to work with Sonya - we could tell we would feel very comfortable with her, and her experience and creativity with taking photos in different environments really came through. Our venue was the California Academy of Sciences, which has some complicated lighting restrictions because of the live animals, as well as some dimly-lit spaces. Sonya did a walk-through with us ahead of the wedding to make sure she'd be ready to shoot high-quality photos within these requirements in all the spaces we were planning to use. Taking photos with Sonya was the first time we really took any couple photos. We felt a little uncertain about how to pose at first, but Sonya made us feel so at-ease and we were able to have fun with it. On the day of our wedding, Sonya was everywhere and nowhere at the same time. She captured all of the important moments, as well as the little details that made our day so special. Sonya has photographed 2 of my friends weddings and the photos were BEAUTIFUL!! The photos really capture the intimate moments of a wedding. I was SO crushed that she wasn't available the weekend of my wedding. However she was the first person I thought of for our newborn photos! And I just love love LOVE our photos. Sonya was truly a pleasure to work with and we are extremely glad we went with her over all the other photographers out there. Fortunately I was referred to Sonya by one of my good friends and my wife and I had an engagement session with her. "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" about sums up my feelings about Sonya's participation in my big day. Full disclosure: I've known Sonya for a while, as we worked together at "The Storyteller" bookstore while both in college. I knew early on that Sonya would be an incredible photographer- and, years later, she was one of the FIRST people I called when I got engaged, and certainly the first vendor I booked!! When my MOH wanted to make sure I wasn't just hiring her because we were friends, I showed her Sonya's work and she was immediately won over. 1st- the quality of her photos is astounding. Her crisp, clear shots perfectly capture both large groups and tiny details in stunning lighting and arrangements. She covered everything from the time I was getting ready with my maids until we were dropping with exhaustion at the end of the night and clearing the dance floor. There are shots of all the tiny details that, as a stressed-out bride, I can barely remember appreciating at the time, but certainly didn't want to miss, and now have a gorgeous record of I can look at any time I want!! Sonya is amazing. No, actually that is not a good description. I don't think that there is a word that I can use to explain how incredible her art it. Yes, that's right, she made my family pictures into works of art. I have had Sonya do my son and my self's family pics each Christmas for the last two years. Personally, I don't like having my photo taken. I always find that I feel too fat, too scattered, always making a weird face etc when pics are taken. And let's face it, when you sit in studios it can feel a little forced. You can see it in the eyes, "another smile? Just get it over with!" Sonya, however, put me at ease. In my case, it's always GGP. Whether overcast (like this year) or super sunny (like last year) all the photos I have seem to pop with color and grace. Half of me wonders, "Who the hell is this picture of?" before I realize it's me. Yeah, it's THAT good. Moving onto my kiddo. Needless to say, he is a little hyper dude. But Sonya was able to get him to be serious, goof off and play for the most amazing shots that I will treasure forever. In between playing baseball, fighting the separatist forces (because he thinks he is Anakin of course), and just snuggling mom, all the pictures are just breath taking. There is life in her work people! LIFE!!! Sonya is super affordable. I'm a single mom in SF and I use her because for the price I would pay at the Picture People for 4 pictures I can have a whole disk of black and white and color photos, all personally touched up and again in poses I want, rather then what the high schooler working an after school job pushing a button at the mall would want. I just celebrated my first anniversary with my husband at a romantic spa hotel in Monterey. We looked at all of our beautiful wedding pictures again, and a thought seized me - OMG, I never wrote that glowing review on Yelp for Sonya!! YIKES! So here it is, about a year late. But better late than never. I could go on and on about Sonya - about how we hit it off the moment we met her at a wine bar in North Beach to discuss the possibility of working with her, about how she had such fun and unique ideas for locations and poses for our engagement shoot, about how she and her second shooter, Christine, were both so wonderful and their styles so perfectly complimentary to each other on the wedding day. And about how our wedding photos turned out so completely beautiful and truly special that I love to look at every single one. She was so calm cool and collected at every moment (especially when I, the frazzled and nervewracked bride, couldn't make any decisions) and the images she captures of brides, grooms, guests, venues and details are at once romantic, ethereal, unique and fun. She was also completely invisible during the ceremony and reception. I would strongly suggest adding on the photo lounge option - it's like a photo booth but with a live shooter - she hires a second shooter to help with that, and they usually take turns shooting guests with fun props and backdrops. Everyone LOVED it, and it added some really fun moments in the day and pics to the album. Choosing your wedding photog is a BIG DEAL. While the dress, the venue, the ceremony and all the other stuff is all important, a photographer will capture images of all those things forever. When I first started looking for a wedding photographer I was so overwhelmed by the sheer volume of them out there. I spent hours sifting through yelp reviews, and then, when I saw the slideshows on Sonya's site, I knew. Sonya's photography is amazing. Although she is capable of doing the standard wedding photo shots (bride's family, groom's family, etc.), I wanted to work with a photographer who could capture the life and the spirit of my wedding day. I am so happy to have found Sonya for our wedding day photos. We cannot express in words how amazing it was to have Sonya as our wedding photographer last October. She was more than we could have hoped for, as we were having a very small ceremony at San Francisco City Hall, but wanted to have beautiful photos of the day. We found Sonya through research on Yelp, and we were impressed by her portfolio on her site. She offered exactly what we wanted, but what we didn't realize was that her professionalism and demeanor would help make the day perfect. She was very responsive and easy to work with, and made sure to get a thorough understanding of what we wanted well in advance. On our wedding day, Sonya's knowledge of City Hall, including the best places and light for photos, combined with her ability to put us at ease and make us look natural, truly exceeded expectations. She also graciously accommodated our request to have some additional photos taken at AT&T Park as park of our two hour City Hall package, which lent a highly personalized feel to our photos.
