I tried to get around it but they were adamant about it so I guess they lost me as a client. Also, they charge a pretty - they are okay but not THAT good to justify the high prices. I don't know where to start with TIFFANY. It was honestly the worst experience I have had in a salon. The haircut was mediocre at best, and her stale personality does not make up for the bad haircut. For a hairstylist I was surprised by her lack of care for her appearance and her conduct. The girl in the chair next to me gave me a look and I knew exactly what she was thinking. I had a great experience getting a haircut with Christina at the Fort Greene location. I originally came in for a bang trim because I was nervous about doing a full haircut. My hair is growing out from a drastic, edgy cut and I don't trust people to cut it the way that I want. Right away, Christina put me at ease with her friendly personality and as we were chatting, I was pleasantly surprised to find that we had same hairstyles in the past and a similar hair aesthetic. I have thin bangs and find that many stylists don't know how to cut them but Christina did a great job cutting them and shaping them in a flattering way. I decided to go ahead with a haircut and am so happy that I did. Looking forward to returning this summer for a trim! read more

Yi is as, if not more, wonderful than as recorded in past reviews on here. He is precise, circumspect, sweet, kind, caring, and thoughtful - all traits you want in a stylist you are going to spend a few hours with and trust with a major piece of your style - your hair. I came in with some washed-out, bleach blonde, with 2 inches of black roots. It's been bleached twice, so Yi was careful to advise me to use a special treatment - I think called oloplex - to ensure the health of my hair. I agreed to it and fortunately my hair - despite a third treatment of bleach - came out of the salon looking as healthy as it can be. He asked about the shape and color, and we agreed to a bob and silver color. It is certainly challenging to color my hair as it has been dyed twice and is naturally black, but he came up with a toner mix of silver, light lavender, and some of the natural blonde that adds a layer of complexity to the overall silver color. Look at it carefully and you can catch hints of other colors, which I find quite fun. The cut was precise and he took a lot of time at the end to ensure it was level all around. I can't thank Yi enough for his level of care. I have so much respect for his years of training He is so sweet, and the other stylists there + receptionist maintain such a fun banter throughout the day that is warm an inviting. Ryan is AMAZING. I hadn't cut my hair in over a year because I'd been trying to grow it out and was admittedly nervous to go through with it. My last couple cuts were disasters, leaving me full of regret and despair. I was trying to hold out for as long as possible, but my thick, giant mane full of split ends was suffocating me in the summer heat, forcing me to finally bite the bullet. Determined not to get another sh*tty cut, I came prepared with 4 photos of my dream 'do. Ryan checked them out and was a great listener, acknowledging all of my perhaps contradictory requests, like "I'm low maintenance/lazy, so my hair needs to be quick and easy to style, but also diverse enough to make fancy if I want to. It also has to look good when it dries naturally, which is pretty wavy. But it also has to look good if I straighten it. And also when it's been under my bike helmet for 40 minutes. Go." Unphased, he got to work. During the cut, I admitted just how much of a hair novice I am, asking him questions you probably learn in Beauty 101, like "Is my hair supposed to be wet when I use a curling iron? Am I supposed to put product in my hair before straightening it?" He could have rolled his eyes at my cluelessness, but instead he was non-judgmental and informative. I left the salon looking and feeling incredible. I'm pretty sure I looked at my reflection in every store window on my way home and definitely turned a bunch of heads. I was totally the Pantene lady in the city (totally not a Pantene fan, though). Thank you so much, Ryan!!! Also, the shampoo girl was amazing (Rebecca, I think?). Stephanie is *amazing* and I came back to Soon because I loved her, but I just went in for a bang trim, got a different stylist, and this new stylist wrecked my bangs. After she'd begun trimming, I noticed quite a bit of hair falling, so looked up and realized she'd started cutting into the rest of my hair, effectively giving me the start of a bowl cut on the front of one side. I told her that I'd asked for just a bang trim, to maintain the same shape of the cut, and she snippily responded that she "just didn't know the 'background,' like if any other bang cuts had been happening at home;" I clarified that no, I don't cut my own hair, and the original haircut happened about a month ago so the shape was definitely still there, and she snapped back "Well I can't POSSIBLY know that, I've never met you." She huffed her way through "the rest" of the trim "to fix it," and then curtly dismissed me, leaving me with visibly lopsided bangs and a really, really bad taste in my mouth. The receptionist was lovely, and I'm hopeful that Stephanie can fix this. I'm not going to name names, because I may have just caught this other stylist on a bad day, but *wow,* I'm shocked by how incredibly bad this experience was after the outrageously positive one I had before. Sometimes in life we all make mistakes, and it takes a magician to correct them. Ryan at Soon Beauty Lab is such a magician. He is also probably a genius with hair color. I rolled in with over processed, tricolor hair and rolled out with something lovely and fresh. He explained everything as he went along so that I was clued into why I might need to go through a few steps to get the results I wanted. I drank a lot of soothing tea and had a great time just hanging out in such a pretty location with such a great, down-to-earth vibe. I would say the price was incredibly fair and well worth it. And it was interesting to see how the other stylists really paid attention to what was going on and asked questions. They all seemed interested in learning more even though they are obviously very talented and experienced themselves. To sum it all up: I entered with a REAL jankity situation and left feeling like an old-timey movie star. And the salon is in a great area with cute shops and restaurants in abundance, so it's worth a trip to Fort Greene! read more

Very disappointing. Scheduled an appointment for full head of balayage and Bruna talked me out of it explaining that she could do very graceful, grow out friendly foil highlights with some teasing. I should never have agreed. Although I didn't see it at the time because I got a blow out, there was nothing graceful or even coherent about the highlights she gave me. There are thick strips and patches of brassy blonde as well as the hard lines foil highlights are known for in the layers of my hair. The back of my hair has a thick chunk of highlight. People choose higher end salons with high price tags to walk out with confidence and great hair. I paid over $300 to realize my hair was better off before going to Soon. I have to see another colorist to fix what she did. read more

I came into soon beauty lab not having a clear picture of what I wanted; maybe that was my mistake. I had bleach blonde hair and needed a root touch up but wanted to have it grow out in a way that would be easy to transition back to my natural dark brown hair. The stylist brought over swatches and once we decided on a darker blonde color she got to work. Turns out she was just filling my already processed hair but she made no attempt to blend my darker roots into the dyed hair. I thought I was pretty clear that I wanted a natural transition, no harsh line but even if I wasn't I feel it is her job to make it look the best it possibly can and not try to do the quickest solution. All in all I paid upwards of 250 for something that looks like I box dyed at home. read more

Don't be fooled... not much better than Supercuts: The staff is very kind and earnest. That being said, this is a low-end salon posing as a high-end and hip Brooklyn alternative. The cuts are at best beauty school level; they are basic + behind-the-times. Coloring, hilights, balayage results are cheap-looking, brassy and do not do well less than a week after treatment. Horrendous. Especially given the cost!!! You could do same to yourself with drug store box color. Probably better. I have gone 3 times to 2 stylists since it opened in Fort Greene. Once bitten, twice shy, third time I deserved what I got by giving it one last try. Do not be convinced by the odd good photo or new interior -- this place belongs in a mall in middle America. Truly only one star given for the very kind staff, stylists and others. I hate to drag a local shop through the mud but stay away.... if you expect anything better than a Supercuts but with salon prices. Had my hair chopped off and painted by Yi. Wow, I'm absolutely in love with the color. A perfect color is hard to find but it's now on my head. He really takes the time to understand what you want to make sure he gets it right (which he did). It's so apparent that he really cares about his work and his clients. He's also incredibly friendly,fun, and easy to talk to! I highly recommend this salon and Yi. Everyone in the salon was friendly as well. A very laid back, comfortable, and welcoming group of people. I've been debating whether to leave this review but I keep feeling angry and disappointed when I try to work with my hair each morning. I've got very fine hair and the stylist I went to at Soon used a technique in an effort to go toward the look I was asking for that cuts into the hair near the crown to give more lift. The result for me was that my ends are sparse make it appear that I have very little hair at all - my hair looks fluffy and damaged and even more fine than it actually is. I suppose this is a warning to anyone going to any salon - know your own hair and what you like, because you're the person who will have to go out into the world with your cut every day, either feeling great, or feeling frustrated, angry, and like you don't look your best. I've had this technique used once before and really didn't like it - so when I saw this stylist going in with it, I should have told her not to do it - but instead, I just asked her about why she was doing it, and she explained, and I trusted her, because she's the pro - even though she started doing it without consulting me at all first. I shouldn't have trusted her - I paid way too much money for a cut I feel angry about every day, I can't wait for it to grow out, and I am considering going to another salon to see if they can give me a different look to fix it. I don't want to wait too long to feel good about how I look again. You have to live with your hair, not your stylist. So trust yourself over them. Moral of the story. read more

I love love love whole experience at soon beauty lab salon. I highly recommend to get a hair appointment with Yi Song at the salon! My hair grew so long to a point that it had become unmanageable, so I decided it was time for a new look. Got the last appointment on Saturday with Yi. After 10-15 minutes of consultation, he recommended an angled bob and some natural coloring for me to make it more fun. What I loved about Yi was he was very focused with his work when he was doing my hair, and he had great attention to detail. Also, he's super funny and nice yet professional. I saw Yi to get my roots done and get a little hair shaping since I'm in the process of growing out a pixie cut and the results were above and beyond what I was expecting! He fixed up my roots no problem and then toned my hair a beautiful peachy/buttery blonde which I LOVE. He also not only touched up the shape of my hair but actually gave it a legitimate shape so I don't have to hide my hair as I pass through an awkward length on my way to a bob. I tried to be really excited about Soon. I've been there once before for a full haircut, and left with something I was pretty okay with. My bangs had a dip in them that I had to fix myself. The environment is cool, the staff is great, but the haircuts are sub par. My stylist fought my natural texture and gave me a blowout without asking - something I'm pretty sensitive about. However, I ended up leaving with a great product for my natural texture, and felt alright. I went back in for a touch up, and despite being told that I would get a full 15 minute trim I was rushed out of the salon after barely getting my bangs fixed. If they want to offer that service, they shouldn't be rude about following through with it. I called, made an APPOINTMENT, and they still acted like I had no place being there. It was a really off putting experience. I have one friend who swears by Soon, but I won't go back there again. read more

I came in for a coloring appointment with Justine on 08.22.2017. I arrived about 15 minutes late to my appointment, and Justine informed me that she would not have time for the service I was seeking (half head highlights); however, she would do her best with the time she had. I showed her an aspirational picture of what I wanted my hair to look like (blonde balayage), and Justine appropriately informed me to adjust my expectations, given my dark hair color, which I appreciated. Justine noted that she would try to get me to as close to the color as possible. I was in the salon for about three hours. I left spending $378 and feeling somewhat satisfied with my hair color (it had a brassy orange tone). Upon arriving home, I noticed a blue/green tint to my hair, which was rather unexpected and disappointing. Soon Beauty Lab was responsive to my concerns, and Justine tried to patch up the color by using a red colored conditioner (to counteract the blue/green tint in my hair) the next day, and I was given a quick blow dry. Upon looking at my hair when I got home, there was still a blue/green tint, and the overall color was rather orange. A few things I learned from this experience: (1) ask up front for the cost of the service, and (2) have a more in-depth discussion re: a hair color transition plan (e.g., number of sessions until desired color is achieved; hair color "goals" for each session so as to avoid having orange-colored hair with a blue/green tint). From the reviews I've read, Justine is a talented hair stylist. Unfortunately, I wasn't a recipient of her brilliance and was out a good chunk of change. read more

Luke @ Soon Beauty Lab has been cutting & coloring my hair with single process / partial foil for about a year. I continue to book appointments with Luke because I'm really happy with the results he achieves with my hair. Over the last six months, Luke transitioned my hair from dark red to strawberry blonde, and I love it. The texture of my hair has stayed soft with no loss of length. I like sporting classic / old Hollywood / timeless hairstyles not native to the texture of my very straight hair. Over time, I've developed my own (I'll admit --complicated) hair self-styling regiment. I like blow-dryers, hot rollers, curling irons, clips, gels, pins, tapes - lots of stuff. I'm always on the prowl for whatever products will make my hair have the most "oooomph" and "vavoooooom" volume and I have tried many with mixed results. Luke has patiently listened and observed how I like to go about self-styling my hair and introduced me to helpful tools that make my hair settings last longer and with a lot less effort than the system I cobbled together on my own. I have to give it up for Yi and the rest of the staff at Soon Beauty Lab for rescuing me during a recent hair emergency a couple weeks ago. I went to another salon initially to get my hair colored a subtle rose gold/ rosy brown color. Instead I ended up with a pinkish orange that was not at all what I asked for. I panicked and left the other salon in shock and didn't know what to do with the awful new hair color. I frantically started calling around so see if it could be fixed before I went to work the following day, but being a Sunday afternoon, I was running out of hope. Fortunately, the staff at Soon Beauty Lab was able to squeeze me in before they closed. Yi was the lead specialist tasked with fixing my hair, and he was so kind and professional, and used it as a teaching opportunity to a stylist-in-training. He listened to me as I begged for my natural hair color again, comforted me, and suggested going to a lighter brown since it would be a waste to bleach my hair twice in one day just to have dark brown again. I trusted his judgment, and ended up with a really lovely, natural looking color. Couldn't recommend this place enough to my friends and followers! I noticed how extensive the color selection was at Soon Beauty Lab, and it is so clear that the staff is trained to create multi-dimensional colors ranging from natural to fashion colors. I've been meaning to write a review for the past year but keep forgetting. Anyway, I've been having my hair cut and colored by the oh so fabulous, Lizzie. I can't say enough nice things about her. She always knows what i want even if i don't articulate perfectly. We always have something to chat about, whether it be about tv, music, movies or art. I hate that feeling that you have to talk about something you don't care about when someone is doing your hair. She always makes me feel very comfortable. In fact, everyone who works there makes me feel very special. One time, i had to put some extra money on my meter because i couldn't find street parking, and the receptionist was more than helpful. I love going to a salon, when right off the bat they offer you a beverage. And i thoroughly enjoy that they offer you coffee and tea rather than just water. This seems like an all-around great salon, everyone was professional and friendly from scheduling, hair washing (oh my god - best scalp massage of my life), to skilled styling. Lizzie cut and styled my hair, and she was amazing. I felt nervous because I'm growing my hair out, and I wasn't totally sure what direction to go.
