I had extra nail Polish on my fingers and was getting a pedicure and she took the time to make sure my hands looked amazing. She also cleaned my nail polish I brought. Really disappointing. This was my first time here and also my first time getting dip. I was told it would last longer than a gel manicure. However, I got my nails done on Monday, and three of my nails have already chipped. The gel looked cracked from the minute I left, and two of my nails look bubbly. Additionally, the woman who worked on my nails dug the file deep into the sides of my nail bed and two were bleeding when I left to go to dinner. The dip was $50, which feels absurd, since it didn't even last a week. A normal gel manicure lasts at least three weeks for me. I got an appointment yesterday at 11.30 am. I haven't had a manicure and pedicure in years . The appointment was quicky given and my pedicurist was wonderful. She did my feet and legs gently and was smiling . She explained each step of the way. My manicurist on the other hand was very mechanical almost man handling my arm and hand. She was smirking at me and making faces when I didn't know how to place my feet in the dryer. She said things in Spanish and laughed about me when I didn't realize I have to pay before she applied my nail paint. While I understand that these are practical things I should have known - as a customer I felt very insulted. I hope the owner sees this and counsels the manicurist. I will never go back here just becauseI felt the purpose of me going there for getting pampered was all spoilt! Sorry Sophia Nails. The owner Sophia has become rude and unfriendly. Orders you around from chair to chair. Nail technician forgot to give me back my own polish. I must echo what others have said about the pedicure. Wow! I have gone to plenty of salons where the nail techs rushed through the massage portion, but this woman, who I assume is the owner, massaged my legs and feet after each wash and rinse. I felt so treated and found myself relaxing with my eyes closed. This went on for a good 20 mins or so. It was a legitimate foot and calf massage. I get the sense that the owner very much pays attention to detail, and appreciate how carefully she polished my toes. The only con I can speak of is the younger nail technician who did my nails seemed a little uncomfortable about doing a simple design. She really should build some confidence in this area if she's going to do nails. It was awkward to show her what I wanted and then have her look at me like I had two heads. Inevitably she gave it a try and it looked great. She did an adequate overall job on my gel manicure. I wouldn't say it was as good as my pedi from the owner though, even with a free shoulder massage. I was thinking of giving 4 stars for that, but off the strength of the owner's skill and precision, I give 5. I will be back! read more

Dissatisfied with the service, I came into the salon for powder dip on my natural nails which I explained I am very proud of my natural nails and the powder dip reinforces the strength on my hands, the lady instantly starts cutting my nails not listening to a word I said. Then I had to get acrylics because she cut off my length, it took two hours for this service. Also,if you want your hands and feet done at the same time you have to be vocal about it and remind them, even if they are empty. It felt weird when I had to ask twice myself, and then I watched another woman have to speak up about the same thing when they had many people working there and were able to do it! They did accommodate once spoken up for. Finally finished getting my nails done, I tipped everyone 20% and am never coming back. Two of those acrylics broke off that same week. SO BAD. tl;dr I got an outstanding manicure here, but I was most moved by the kindness and caring of the people who work here. I wanted to get a last-minute pre-vacation mani/pedi, and I was running errands in Bryn Mawr and decided to wait out stormy weather and the evening rush hour traffic by getting my nails done before driving back into Philly. (Found them on Yelp) As soon as I parked my car, there was a HUGE rainstorm. Torrential. I waited a few minutes for the rain to stop, but it was relentless. I decided to make a run for it. I was fully soaked by the time I crossed the street and entered Sophia Spa. Drenched. It was a busy night at the salon, but I was really moved by how their team took care of me. They gave me towels to dry off and wring out my hair, and when I sat down, they wrapped my shoulders in a big, warm towel. One woman offered to put my shawl in their dryer; I realized later she was the owner. When my nails were drying, she came back with the toasty-warm shawl and wrapped it around my shoulders. I felt so taken care of; in addition to the high level service, I really got the warm fuzzies. Not to mention, the gel manicure was amazing. I work with my hands (I'm a professional organizer). My manicure was perfect for my vacation and the following week, it really stood up to my schedule of constant decluttering, rearranging, lifting + moving furniture. After seeing all of the perfect 5-star reviews on Yelp, I decided to bypass my usual pedicure spot in Wayne, in favor of Sophia's in Bryn Mawr. I called the day of and made an appointment with Sophia. When I arrived, I was greeted right away, and acknowledged for my appointment. I sat in the pedicure chair, my feet soaking in the hot water, and was greeted warmly by a smiling technician, who offered me some water or green tea. Sophia came over and went right to work. She spent a couple of minutes buffing my heels and feet until they were silky smooth. She approached each element of the service - the scrubbing, lotioning, toenail cutting, etc. - with an equal eye for detail and finesse. After the pedicure, I opted to get a manicure as well, even though it wasn't part of my original plan. While my nails dried, Sophia gave me a lovely shoulder massage. The mani-pedi was $45 total, but since I paid in cash and had my student ID, she gave me 20% off. The total was $36. I had no hesitation tipping 30% for a job well done. I'm giving Sophia's a 3 because they have a lot of great potential that is just unrealized by small things. I ended with a fantastic gel manicure, it was just a short service (30 minutes) and an obviously stressed technician. It seemed that all the other nail technicians were slowly working on their clients while mine (who I think was the owner) was forced to scramble between 3-4 people. The salon was also slightly dirty, there were what looked like crumbs and pieces of hair from previous clients on the chair and some issues with the floor. That being said, the nail service was detailed and intentional, it just lacked the relaxation aspect I was looking for. Perhaps if they hired a few more technicians or even just a receptionist, the service will be smoother and more relaxed. read more

Sophia and her team make you immediately feel welcomed, they take their time, and do a fantastic job. So many thoughtful touches that most places would charge extra including a great callous scrub, lots of hot steamy towels, and an incredible hot stone leg + foot massage. Definitely my go to place for a mani/pedi. Staff is very friendly. There is some parking around the back of the building. Pay close attention to the signs. You will get towed if parking in a slot for neighboring business or apartment. Street parking is also available. I recommend calling ahead rather than walking in. Cute little place. Very nice staff. I randomly decided to treat myself after my doctor's appt and so glad I did. Got myself a mani and pedi. My Pedicure included a nice massage with lotion and additional hot stones and a paraffin wax for my heels while my toes were painted. Then my manicure included a wonderful back massage after. I dont know the name of the staff member who did my toes, but she was great, as was Selina who did my hands. All that for $52! I looked up a fancy place 10mins away that didn't have an availability (luckily) prior, that the pedicure alone with the hot stone was $55. I spoke to someone and booked my appointment. When I showed up for my appointment, they told me they didn't have one for me and couldn't take me. Sunny didn't care that I had called, picked up the phone, didn't give me any eye contact and definitely gave no apologies. Seriously, not even one apology. I walked in for a gel mani and regular pedi after calling ahead to check that they could get me in. They got me in right away, and were willing to do both at the same time when I asked. I love being pampered, but sometimes I don't want to spend an hour and a half at the salon. That being said, shortly into my pedicure I found myself wondering "why am I rushing this...???" Best. Pedicure. Ever. It should be - it's not as cheap as some places. But the foot massage was LEGIT, and I wasn't hassled by the technician about upgrades throughout - she just did the callus scrub and leg/foot wrap without asking. Being the girly girl that I am, I get manis and pedis as regularly as my schedule allows. Being that I've lived in Philadelphia now for over 12 years, I've tried handfuls of nail salons (and dedicated to some for years - Christie's in Manayunk). Well that's because 1) I haven't been that impressed before or 2) something went wrong (bad quality, terrible salon manager (see Euphoria Nails in Manayunk - I stopped going there because watching the manager interact with her employees made me so uncomfortable. She doesn't seem to treat them very well). At Sophia's though, let's start with the owner. She is an angel!!!! An absolute doll. Every time I come in, she treats me like her own - so sweet and makes me feel like I'm family. She trains her employees perfectly - they are all consistent and provide great service. Friendly attitudes, very welcoming! You will never feel like anyone there is talking about you in their language (like you might feel in most other salons). All of the women there are kind, thoughtful, and patient- and I'll say it again: Sophia herself is the sweetest lady. Now, what do you get during your visit here? Well, don't come here without getting a pedicure. For the price, you are getting WAY more value than any other salon in the area. You get one hell of an amazing massage (literally, best neck and foot massages I've ever gotten and I get them often!) included in your standard pedi. After 15 minutes of being spoiled and having your feet and legs rubbed incredibly, they give you a hot stone massage. Yes! ANOTHER MASSAGE! Praise the pedi gods! After all the heavenly massages, they give you a paraffin wax treatment on your heels - it's the magic trick that gets rid of all that dead skin and icky, dry schtuff on your feet. Makes them baby soft new again! The salon itself isn't as fancy as Zazen or maybe some others in the area, but don't let that fool you.
