I don't usually have time to write reviews as I am a working mother of 2 beautiful girls and that absorbs most if not all of my time. I am however taking time out of my busy life to write this for a Dr. that deserves to be recognized for her talented work. Dr. Sophie Duriez is an exceptional Psychiatrist! I have been bringing my 14-year-old daughter to her for anxiety and depression since the beginning of 2020. I am happy to report that I have seen a drastic difference. It really doesn't make sense to share exactly what steps have been taken to help my daughter since everyone is different and everyone will need different treatment. What I can tell you is that Dr. Duriez is highly educated, highly experienced, and knows how to help. Additionally, she has an exceptional outlook on solution-oriented treatment. Her goal is to get you better with little or no medicine and wants you to recover so that you no longer need therapy. I am really happy with Dr. Duriez's work and would recommend her to anyone looking to better their mental health in the most positive and natural way possible. Thank you Dr. Duriez!!! read more

I really, really like Dr. Duriez. I think that her approach to psychiatry is refreshing. She firmly believes that she and the patient make the best plan for treatment with medication, not any pharmaceutical rep. I believe that she will only medicate if she feels it necessary. I believe she really wants the quality of life for her patients to improve and that includes shifting thinking, behaviors, and lifestyle factors/choices, whether or not that also includes medication. As an adult diagnosed with ADD, I have to say her diagnosis changed my life totally and completely for the better. I look forward to meeting her each month. I have not had any of the same issues others speak of, regarding scheduling appointments or receiving calls back. I am not here to doubt or argue, just to share my experience. I always seem to be able to get into the doctor in a timely fashion and receive calls back within a reasonable amount of time. There is a high turnover rate of office managers/receptionists/whatever their title may be, but this has not affected my quality of care at this point. I think that is based on finding the right person for the job, not just a butt to warm the seat. read more

To say Dr Duriez is a good psychiatrist is an understatement; not only do I respect her as an M.D., but more importantly I respect her as a person, an authentic person who speaks the words of truth, often with her vibrant sense of humor . As an Asian guy, I have no difficulty in developing mental connection with her. She has such sensitivity and mentality that help her communicate with people of all ethnicity. Of course, each psychotherapist has a style or approach of its own. This therapist may or may not be a perfect match for you but the "searcher" himself/herself is certainly responsible for figuring out what s/he truly needs in therapy. I totally understand the insurance issues brought up by some reviewers. Yes, insurance companies are pain in the butt because they find excuses to NOT reimburse you or your doctor in order to keep their profitability; they're no doubt the major culprit of the problematic American health care system. And Dr Duriez is merely a private doctor on her own and doesn't have any control over insurance's demeanor. So what's the point of blaming it all on her? With that said, if you really want to know if Dr Duriez is a good fit, go straight to her website and read what she has to say as a therapist. If it feels right, call the office to find out more. Keep away from this doctor! I went to her initially due to my hesitation with the usual clinical doctors that are quick to prescribe antidepressants to you. I liked her holistic approach with natural remedies.... That is until she prescribed me something called Vyvanse to battle my depression, which is basically just like Adderall aka putting a depressed person on crack. It helped temporarily, but after a couple months, I felt like an empty zombie - maybe because the medication was suppressing my appetite, keeping me up for hours and giving me trouble sleeping? She also advised that I didn't need therapy and that I could heal myself on my own. None of this really sank in until I referred my friend, an ex-addict, to her and she also prescribed her Vyvanse! Unbelievable. I finally got myself to a proper psychiatrist who was shocked that she would prescribe me that and was able to stabilize me. I'm not sure if she's sponsored by them or what, but please don't go to her. read more

Dr. Sophie Duriez is the best therapist I have ever had! Not only she is the best listener, filled with empathy and understanding, she TRULY works on the solutions. She always find a practical way for any (any!!) problem. She works from her heart and cares about each one of her patients. So many times in the past I felt more frustrated leaving the therapist office, letting my problem stir up more and more. Dr. Duriez is one of a kind. I have referred 3 other friends to her and they agree that they have never met a doctor that takes as much as time as is needed and really and truly cares about her patients well being. The first friend I referred had broken down during her appointment and Dr. Duriez spent an extra 45 minutes with her just to make sure she was okay before she left. I had been there with my daughter and we had a huge issue and Dr. Duriez had asked us to stay while she went to the waiting room to make sure the waiting patients were aware of our emergency and to let them know why she was running late. I have never, ever had a psychiatrist or psychologist do this. Dr. Duriez is also not a pill pusher. She will prescribe medication as needed but also looks for other solutions to help her patients. read more

From the minute I called and talked with Molly I knew that these people really care. As a new patient they bent over backwards to get me an appoint that met my schedule that same day that I called. When I arrived I immediately fell comfortable. Dr Duriez is a caring and compassionate person. Her insight to my anxieties was spot on she gave me a prescription that seemed to offer instant relief. I appreciate that she chooses to prescribe non addictive medications. I highly recommend her, especially if you are suffering from anxiety, depression and lack of sleep. I do not feel comfortable disclosing sensitive matters and have no desire to publicly disparage another person. I don't know her perspective on what happened because she has not called me back or tried to respond or help, as far as I know. So I am open to the idea that there could be an explanation, and I don't pretend to have the whole picture. However I do feel a responsibility to tell people about what was, from my perspective, a bizarrely negative first-time experience with this doctor if they are considering seeing her. Anyone who is in that situation, please feel free to message me privately. UPDATE: I am updating this to add that after I wrote this review and a week after a problem emerged due to a careless mistake, Sophie Duriez did call me to work out this problem and was more helpful. I still think that this should and could have been resolved very easily with some care and attention earlier. I don't have any reason to think she is not a decent doctor and I don't have a problem with her diagnosis (I went to another doctor for a second opinion and this other doctor agreed with Doctor Duriez), but she didn't treat her patient in a way that I think she should have in this case, and that made for an upsetting experience. read more

As a doctor she is very good but as an office what a MESS! The way they function as an office is sadly enough to put me off and really not recommend to anyone. I have been overcharged and accused by her front desk incorrectly of certain payments. Things were so bad with how payments were being processed that they fired the woman. Red flag. Avoid. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Duriez for over a year now and she truly is an amazing doctor. She cares about her patients well being and ensures that she is prescribing them the lowest dosage possible while still making sure that they are getting the greatest results and benefits. I have been seeing a psychiatrist for over 7 years and she is by far my favorite one that I have seen. She was able to find out the true nature of my medical problem that no one else was able to discover. She has been working hard to transform her office into one that offers the best overall care from her well educated receptionists to proper scheduling so that you are seen on time. The overall experience at Dr. Duriez's office has only gotten better from when I first started seeing her and I know she is continuing to work to improve it so that it goes beyond excellent in patient care. read more

Where do I start with Sophie? Her heart is is in the right place her altruism and idealism is what makes her amongst the better psychiatrists in Los Angeles and possibly the world. She gave me some very solid advice. However I have issues with her business practices, she takes forever to cash checks which is a problem. One of my checks bounced because the money aloted for my apointment had to be spent on a parking ticket. I promptly was contacted by her office and chastized by her personall. I paid her with a cashiers check which included the bounced check fee. She said that would be the last appointment and dropped me as a client. She gets three stars because she has potential, wants to do the right thing, and because I never write personal checks under any circumstances anymore. So I benefitted from seeing her and I even respect her. read more

The best. She's the best. I have two teenage girls, each with their own stuff, and Dr. Duriez is the kind of doctor that can relate to kids their age. I really like that she tries to get people OFF of medication, if she can. She does prescribe when necessary. I adore her. read more

Dr. Sophie Duriez was the only professional in Los Angeles that hit it with the right medication and put me on a goal oriented plan to solve my problems and leave medication little by little. She has a very human and compassionate approach with a focus on "solving the problem", she is a foreign doctor and has varied and ample points of view, more than doctors that practiced in the US only. Since she is also a homeopathic doctor, I homeopathy with positive results. read more

Although I like the Doctor, the business is shady at best - You call to cancel and they don't relay a message and charge you- You make an appointment and sometimes get someone who barely knows psychiatry but has to look things up in a book! The kicker is having to talk to 3 different people to settle a cancelled appointment (they have a 48 hour policy so forget emergencies like kids getting sick and what not - this shrink doesn't care!), having it settled and then them hiring a new person who knows nothing and has to start from scratch! AWFUL. I question their business practices and am glad there are other people on here who have had the EXACT same experiences as I have. The appointment setting process is unlike any office, let alone medical office I have ever been to. They tried to charge me when I called in less than 24 hrs to cancel because I was very sick. They could hear how sick I was, and even agreed that I was too sick to come in, before they finally didnt charge me but acted like they were doing me a huge favor. Another time I had cancelled an appointment over a week before it was coming up, and they called me twice to reschedule it. (unprompted by me) and then emailed me asking me to reschedule my appointment. the next day they called me to CONFIRM the appointment I had cancelled. and they had accepted as cancelled or they wouldn't have harassed me trying to get me to schedule another appointment if they saw one on the books. When I called Maria back and on this BS she acted confused as if she did not remember, but I have voicemails from her and emails, it's completely unwiggleable. I also did not know Dr. Termeh had been let go, who who was I was seeing prior to Durietz, but I did think it was weird and probably illegal that Termeh was writing prescriptions on Durietz's pads, and Termeh's name was no where on the pad. This office is the most unprofessional place I have ever been, and only in the money making business. They won't let a patient pick up a prescription that they have been getting for several months without charging them for a full visit, you don't even have to do the visit, you just have to pay for it, to get your prescription. UNREAL. If you think I need an appt, don't give me medicine without seeing you. And if it's fine to give me the perscription without seeing you, dont charge me if I'm not going to see you! I hope this place gets shut down. read more

I work in the medical field as well, and I have never seen someone change their staff as much as Dr. Duriez has. In the past year there has been at least 10 new receptionists which is very annoying. Going to a psychiatrist you want that privacy and you just don't get it at Dr. Duriez's office. I have been to other psychiatrists and they all charge between $120 - $200/visit. Dr. Duriez charged me $400 because I did not want to use my insurance. It was crazy! She is so disheveled as well. It takes about 2 months to go in and see her for a 30 min appointment. It seems like she's only in it for the money and not to help people. read more

Dr. Duriez is a breath of fresh air in the US medical system where doctors seem to be more interested in perpetuating patients issues to keep them coming back for more (meds/treatment/etc) than actually helping them. Dr Duriez listens, she really understands and has great ideas and genuinely wants to help and does anything and everything in her power to do so. She understands the benefit of medication, but also advocates for bigger lifestyle changes that can be helpful long term. Basically she is for whatever is working best for you whether it be meds, more holistic changes or a combination. Her staff has also been lovely to work with. It's so nice to speak to a human being on the phone and not have to wait 5 (or 50) mins to get through an automated system. Dr Duriez has also been incredibly accommodating with my difficult schedule and frankly I am not sure where I would be without that flexibility. It is sad to see these negative reviews below... not sure if it's fair to disparage someone online because of a pharmaceutical's negative effects. It's your job to communicate with your doctor about any side effects you might be experience, she is a psychiatrist not a mind reader. The services are horrible. The cost is around $200+ and you don't even see Dr. Duriez! Her employee who is trained but NOT the main psychiatrist is assigned to you and becomes your psychiatrist. You don't even see Dr. Duriez. On top of this, the meeting (which you are paying $200+ for) is only 30 MINUTES LONG. I stopped going there and I do NOT recommend Dr. Duriez. I found a better and cheaper Psychiatrist and I'm sure you can find a better one too! read more

One of the worst doctor's visits I've ever had in my entire life. First and foremost, my insurance referred her as an "Addiction Specialist". I was calling every doctor on my list because I was near a mental breakdown and needed to see someone. When I called to make the appointment, the receptionist asked me what I am coming in for. I told her "severe percocet addiction". She got me on the schedule that day. After she called me back three times to tell me my insurance company never heard of me (even though I have insurance and a card), I told her I would deal with it when I got there and pay out of pocket if need be. That's how desperate I was. I was also contemplating quitting my job because I in such a low state. I left work to drive over there, and I get a call from the receptionist saying she needed to cancel due to "an emergency with her husband". That turned out to be a lie. I told the receptionist that I was on the brink of a mental breakdown, but there was nothing they could do. So in my lowest mental state, I had to go back to work and book an appointment for the next day. When I went in the next day, they finally figured out the obvious truth that I had insurance. They kept me waiting for a while, of course. When I finally met the doctor, she told me she doesn't deal with addiction and that it was an incorrect referral from my insurance company. Keep in mind I told the receptionist that I was dealing with percocet addiction. Essentially the session consisted of her telling me "there is nothing I can do, I don't practice withdrawal techniques". Okay, I got that, but she could at least tried her best to hear whats going on with me and help me with my issues. Instead she went on with explanations of why she doesn't practice in addiction and wanted me to come back to her when I was off the percocet. What a big help that was. I asked what my options were and she kept bringing up the name of this one guy at UCLA who does some sort of addiction practice. I asked her about other possibilities and any other paths I could go down, but it kept landing back on the same thing. "I don't practice that, I can't help you, I'm sorry you're frustrated, my secretary should have told you". OH, she also left for 15 minutes in THE MIDDLE of the session to go to her receptionist to get the phone number and address of this ONE doctor. 15 minutes! I've never heard of that! All she could of done was pop her head out and tell her secretary "can you look up Joe Smith's number" and given it to me at the end. When I popped my head out she threw her hand up like a rude crossing guard and said "WAIT". She did however apologize for canceling the day before. However, she told me she had a headache....there was no "husband emergency". So somebody lied. I'm glad doctor's skip out on a potential patent in need because they have a headache. I understand her unwillingness to prescribe me anything as I am taking pain killers, but I wasn't there seeking out pills. I was there seeking out advice and help, but all I got were a bunch of excuses and apologies. read more
