On our recent trip to the Philippines, the family, my fiance and I decided to stay at Highland Bali where they had Soraya as their main (and only) restaurant. Staying at Highland Bali, breakfast at Soraya is included, which I have to say was such a great treat. Their breakfast selection is very extensive and offers delectable Filipino breakfast staples which absolutely hit the palate! Whether you are a tourist from a far away land or a Pinoy back in the Philippines for a much needed R&R, Soraya's breakfast will surely get you off to a great start!
HOWEVER, I wish I could say the same for their lunch and dinner menu which to be honest was slightly lack-luster, The "Pandan" chicken in particular was flavorless - A dish shouldn't rely on a sauce to make it tastier. The "Bulalo" was ok but honestly, it's not worth bragging about. My sisters ordered the dinner pasta dishes which got mediocre reviews as well which to me was quite surprising, how can you mess up a Carbonara and a Seafood Pasta?
I honestly believe that Soraya has the potential to be an amazing restaurant! They shouldn't rely on being the only restaurant on premise and that the customers have no choice but to eat here when staying at Highland Bali - they have not felt the strain from a good competition but sooner when options become aplenty that's where the re-evaluation of dishes will come in - and I hope soon.
I rate Soraya at 3.5 stars - being there's no half star in yelp, they'd be rated as 4, amidst the lack luster lunch & dinner menu, the place has a lot going for it, a great ambiance, wonderful people, fantastic service as well as terrific window views, and of course the delicious breakfast (and that delicious tiny Spanish bread teaser!) why not re-evaluate your menu and showcase Great Pinoy cuisines with a twist that will leave a great lasting impression to all your guests. Be a part of the Filipino food evolution which is now getting recognition worldwide!
