Charming & Timeless - A Gem in Middletown The Sorg Opera House in downtown Middletown, Ohio, is a truly beautiful venue. While it could use a bit of repair and restoration in places, that doesn't take away from its unique charm and great atmosphere. We attended a concert there and were so pleased with the experience. Sorg Opera House - Performing Arts Near Me - Middletown, Ohio

I've always wanted to see the inside of this establishment. Word is that there is a remodel in progress. When first walking up to the entrance you feel like you're walking in to the past. As you walk the hallway to the theater space, you can feel the atmosphere. Then when you walk in to the theater, you are welcomed with an absolutely stunning view of the three+ floors of visual nirvana. The space is stunning and I'll be the first to admit that It for sure needs some serious TLC. As we talked to folks, they all state that you should have seen it before we started cleaning it up. It is a work in progress so things will get updated as they can. Once the lights dropped and the band started playing, the acoustics in this building was amazing!! We wandered around from the floor to second floor and the audio sounded phenomenal regardless of where you are seated. Dating myself here but I feel like Statler and Waldorf(muppets) should be heckling from the boxes. We will for sure go back. If it's cold outside, wear a jacket or bring a blanket as it gets kind of chilly in here. They are working in that too so that suggestion may no longer be needed. read more

This is an old building with a lot of interesting history. I wish they did a better job of keeping it tidy.

I've been to Sorg Opera House a few times, back when the Sorg Opera company still performed. Last night, I returned to see Rise Up Performing Arts' production of Holiday Inn. The evening started off a bit slow with a group of children in a classroom setting reading their letters to Santa. Unfortunately, they didn't use microphones, so I missed most of what they were saying. This made me nervous about what to expect from the evening, but my fears disappeared when the overture (pre-recorded, but that was fine) started. The show was wonderfully performed by a very talented young cast (mostly high school and college students, I believe). There was plenty of good acting, singing, and dancing. The backdrops were done with high-quality projections that were very effective. Rise up has a nice variety of shows scheduled for 2023, and I hope to see some of them. read more

We went to see the Temptations and it was a very pleasant evening! I would recommend the Song Opera House!

They seem like a friendly little opera house trying to revitalize, but look at your drink charge very closely, and keep your receipt. I bought an $8 drink, fine. Bought one more drink for myself and one for a friend and was charged another $115 !! There is no drink in that little opera house that costs $50, and if there were, I sure as heck wouldn't spend that. Then supposedly I have a $15 tip. Um, I don't think so. I didn't realize this until I got my credit card bill. I figured it was an innocent mistake - someone pressed an extra zero. I tried calling (once, LM) and emailing (2-3 times), no reply. I disputed with my credit card. The bank sure got a reply from the Sorg - they said I bought $100 of drinks and then gave a $15 tip on top of that. Be vigilant. Watch your charge and keep your receipt! Not cool. read more

The Sorg is currently under renovation. I had the opportunity to visit and see inside the Sorg at a street festival for it. This place has wonderful history. The revitalization group is doing a great job with the renovations and look forward to the coming years. read more
