Nestled inside historic Soulard Market is one of the most fragrant resources in our city, Soulard Spice Shop. I recently helped plan a gumbo boil for a young professionals group in the area (holler to y'all who know who you are!) We wanted to be hyper local, so we purchased all of the ingredients for the gumbo from the Market. We had a long list of spices to snag, and so we were so thankful for Soulard Spice Shop. The shop is in the center of the market and easy to find. You can basically follow your nose. The selection is MASSIVE. I was blown away with how many items they have at Soulard Spice Shop. The thing I most appreciated was the selection of preblended dip mixes. They were all creative and made my mouth water. I decided i could not leave Soulard Spice Shop without a BLT dip mix. (OMG GO GET IT IT WAS SO GOOD.) Service at Soulard Spice Shop is top notch. You walk up to their window, let them know what you need, and they grab it for you. You don't have to search for it yourself. While it can be fun to browse, I'm sure on a busy Saturday morning, you'll appreciate getting what you need quickly.

First time in a spice shop. Another yelp review that brought me here. Imagine every spice imaginable. I bought some Thai curry and chili spice. They have thousands of options. I learned about their dessert spices if you want to kick it up a notch with your sweet tooth. The most memorable to me was the peach habanero dip... super interesting. I was I knew of a place like this where I live. BTW, you can order their spices online as well.

Salt free vegetable herb blend I was recommended to try by the staff that I bought for my mom. It tastes great!

I absolutely adore the Soulard Spice Shop! There variety of spices and the reasonable prices make it a must visit stop in STL. You could literally be in there for hours discovering all the different herbs, spices and spice blends as well as there other products like dry soup mixes, salsas, jams, Kelly's and other chutneys and jar items. It is a phenomenal little St. Louis gem that I patronize not near as much as I would like. If you or friends and family are into salt free spice blends, there selection is better than your local supermarket. And who can beat their prices? No one! Where else can I get a container of apple pie spice for $1.50?! I can tell you right now that McCormick's in Schnucks will run you $4 plus for a fraction of what you can get at the spice shop. AND their spices are always fresh and potent! Check them out if you haven't already. They are awesome! Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly and even if they are busy, they give each customer their undivided attention and will let you try spices if you would like! A phenomenal place to visit!

Located in Soulard Markets Grand Hall, this family owned spice shop was the first lessee when the Grand hall was erected in 1929. Don't let the photos fool this place is teeny and packed with people. They are open W-Sa, but if you decide to go on Saturday when the market is bustling, plan to take a number and duck out of the shop for a bit, unless you want to get up close and personal with the person standing next to or in front of you. The Spice Shop stocks a variety of quality spices, soup bases, sauces, condiments, chutneys, salsas, sausages, cheeses, cured meats, etc. If I'm investing in spices for a recipe that matters, I won't go anywhere else. The quality and freshness of the spices is superb. I compete in the Mardi Gras Crystal Cajun Cook Off every year and I always buy my smoked sausage and andouille from the Spice Shop. I don't know where they get it, but it is fantastic. Another thing I always grab when I am there is bottled chutneys, salsas, and hot sauces. They always have unique choices that are handy to throw over meatballs or cheese when you have a last minute appetizer prepare. Service is friendly and efficient. I only shop there a few times a year, but they always remember me. If only they served cocktails ;-)

I've been getting my spices here for 42 years, now. Since the summer of 1983. The ONLY place to get your spices!!

Great place to get spices. I live in Las Vegas but I stop by the spice shop whenever I'm in town.

(Nov 6, 2021) They have a menu but it shows certain things on it. Their slushees are good but you always pay a different price because they always have different size cups. Recommend just going to place an order. Also wouldn't recommend the nachos. The cheese was watered down/ thin & spilled out the bag when they handed it to me and literally a piece of lettuce on top. Not chopped/sliced or anything. UPDATE: I go back on Nov. 12, 2021 paid cash (@2:58) and was told 15 mins waited 20 mins just to find out my order wasn't placed at all AGAIN & I had to wait because they don't do refunds. I always only order just the Cajun macaroni. Didn't get my food til 3:50 & it was lukewarm.

I love to give black owned businesses a chance but more than likely I am always met with disappointment. You have to pay for your order over the phone, so naturally you would expect your food to be ready when you get there. That's not the case. Not only is it not prepared, there is only one line to be serviced at so you have to wait behind people who haven't placed an order. When I arrived the line was to the door. No one was at the register for about 3mins, okay their busy. Get to the counter we have to wait an addtl 8mins for food. Okay their busy. I pay for a banana pudding that is priced online for 5$ I am charged 7$ didn't notice til I looked at my receipt on the way home. The prices need to be updated on all platforms!!! We finally get our food the "Saturday Special" it comes with a burger, cheese fries & 5 party wings. 1st thing I notice is that we don't have cheese on our fries. Goes back up to the register. She says "we're out of cheese" and that was it. She didn't offer to take the money off, a complementary item, nothing. I asked for a receipt. Come to find out adding sauce to your wings is an addt 1.50$ that we weren't made aware of. I had about 10 French fries on my plate. My burger was burnt and barely fit the size of my bun. I had a half slice of tomatoe and a slither of lettuce. We spent almost 100$ on maybe 30$ worth of food. My cousin was so displeased with the service she sold her plate to a man in the line that couldn't get food because they were" sold out" of everything an hour before they closed. They had no signage posted. Nothing posted on their instagram to informs customers ahead of time. I called today to see if they would reconcile the situation. After voicing all my concerns the manager asked me what she could do to which I replied , I'll take a refund or they can remake the food. She sounds like she was going to offer a refund but had to check with the owner because again we spent close to 100$ . She came back to the phone to say that they could remake the food next Saturday b/c they only have that special on that day and she would pin my receipt to make sure everyone was aware. In hindsight I would've preferred to have my money back b/c who's to say the same thing won't happen next week or worse after me leaving this review. I doubt I'll return. But this is a lesson learned. Also her excuse for everything is that they were short staffed lol, this crap is laughable at this point .
