This studio is definitely set up better than the Bellevue location. Much better flow of post and pre-class traffic, and there's parking right across the street in the Whole Foods garage. It's only $3 on the weekends! I've been a regular for Matt's soul survivor class on Saturdays at 9:30am and I'm obsessed. Definitely my favorite instructor so far! My name is Matt, and I'm addicted to SoulCycle. Have tried quite a few other cycling studios in the past, but never felt that the workouts were very fun or intense enough to warrant the high price or my time. SoulCycle SLU changed that for me, and I absolutely love their total body, dance-rhythmic approach to indoor cycling. Every instructor here is top notch - their playlists are at the same time current and classic, and most importantly, fun! By the time our ride ends, I cannot believe that 45 minutes have passed, and check my calorie monitor to see that I've burned 500-600 calories. Every. Single. Time. The facilities are also super clean (I'm very picky about this in a gym or studio), and the staff are willing to help you get set up for your first (or second, or third, or fourth...) time riding! The experience is a must-try. The space is on the small side, but in some ways, the intimacy is what makes riding at SoulCycle SLU so fun. Also, changing / grabbing a bathroom or shower has never been an issue for me--I think that there's ample space in the common areas to get your stuff together before & after class. You really feel camaraderie with both the other riders and your instructor with each and every ride, and I can't say that about any other cycling class that I've ever taken. I had high high hopes and wanted to love this place. To be honest, maybe if this was the first spin studio I tried, it'd be the one for me. But, it isn't. So first the things I liked - gorgeous facility, fantastically decorated. Tons of lockers, fantastic gear for purchase, awesome/helpful staff and amazing instructor. Things I didn't dig - I love loud music but entering the studio it was SO loud I could hardly hear the front desk staff. The clip style on the shoes made me feel like I was gonna eat it in the studio. The bikes were SO close together that all I could think of was what a death trap it was if a fire broke out. And the lack of stats on my performance had me second guessing my output for 45 mins. According to my watch, my performance was sad. SoulCycle, we just weren't meant to be. Admittedly I used to be addicted to my heart rate monitor. Thank you, Soulcycle, for breaking me of this habit. I've been riding with Matt at 7:30 the past few months and I'm a new/better husband and father! Highlights: - Instructors/Matt. His coaching, athleticism, knowledge of the body and ear for music is everything I need twice a week. I feel like I'm 10 years younger (& wish I was!) - Amenities: The front desk, room, changing rooms are decked out with everything you might need. Anything you might need is within arms reach! - Cleanliness: the place is super clean. Lockers, the studio, etc. The candles are a nice touch and smell terrific. Lowlights: - Parking: Just calling this a low light and not reducing my star rating because this isn't a SoulCycle issue. Sure, they could put in a different location so they have better parking, but most likely would be outside the city and inconvenient in other ways. Buy a snack at Whole Foods after and have them comp your parking! - Post class: I enjoy the amenities and for the cost I like to take advantage of them after class. When I worked in NYC the office DJ used to turn the music way down and it would be a subtle hint to our staff that it's 7pm. Sometimes the lobby music is turned way down while I'm still showering and forces me to rush. Maybe I'm reading into it too much so not going to knock it a star. PROs: Always friendly staff, a solid group of (overworked) instructors, and there is finally a Seattle Location in SLU CONs: Small, cramped facility that is poorly laid out, high price/class without an unlimited monthly option If you're a fan of SoulCycle's spin workouts and live downtown you are probably pretty excited about a location in South Lake Union. I have been looking forward to a downtown location after many frustrating, failed attempts to get across the Lake to the Bellevue location in traffic. However, after attending a few classes at the new South Lake Union location, I am admittedly underwhelmed. While the staff is friendly and the instructors are great, the facility is the most cramped and poorly laid out SoulCycle I have been to. Finding a place to change or use the restroom before or after class is a nightmare because there are no locker rooms. Instead the separate unisex showers and bathrooms are, not surprisingly, full with long lines both before and after class. Plus, if you want to use the mirror after you shower, you have to gather all of your stuff up again, find somewhere to put it and contend with all the people waiting in line for the bathrooms and showers in addition to the throngs of people who are just walking through. It is literally a stress inducing, hot mess. To make matters worse, the lockers, most of which are located in a small, cramped hallway are all on the floor and awkward to use (they did, however, manage to make room for plenty of their overpriced apparel though). I know I am not the only person who was disappointed as I overheard lots of similar frustrations, especially from the people who opted to change outside on a cold, rainy day because it was so crazy inside. One would think that by this stage in the game their operations staff would have a better understanding of their customer's needs when selecting and building out new locations. I also feel really bad for the instructors who have to be feeling the strain of an additional studio with only one additional instructor. The instructors were already teaching two-three classes/day, five-seven days/week with one studio in Bellevue. Teaching that many classes for a prolonged period of time cannot be healthy or enjoyable. Lastly, and this is a shortfall of SoulCycle in general vs. this specific location, is that the classes are really expensive for group fitness (especially when you consider there are ~60 bikes packed in such a small studio space). At $28/class, four rides per week quickly becomes $400-500/month with no unlimited option. Other comparable spin studios have unlimited monthly options available for ~$200/month. If you plan to take classes here, my advice is to plan for a extra time before and after class and avoid having to use the showers if you can. Oh, and bring a pile of cash. read more

Just had my first Soulcycle experience. The price point is comparable, but the atmosphere of the class is better in my opinion than say a Flywheel class - it's less competitive and more about your 'spiritual' experience. I enjoyed that my instructor (Victoria) really helped get the class to champion me through with it being my first one, though it was a little embarrassing as I was a strugglebus. The music was on point, the bikes are easy to adjust, and the bikes were fairly well spaced-out. Cons: they charge after your first class for shoes. $3 dollars! With a class costing you $28, you'd think you might get an additional towel at the very least, and with such a massive amount of bikes (I believe close to 50) you should probably have more than 4 bathrooms and 3 showers. I think they're struggling with the space they have, but I'm excited to see whether they flourish in the area! read more

Finally decided to check out the SLU location to scope out the lay of the land. I am a frequent rider at their Bellevue location, but this one is nice to have close to my office. The only downfall is the parking! Apart from that, everything else is quite nice. Not sure why people are complaining about the size because it feels less cramped than the Bellevue location. Parking: if you are interested in braving the street parking in SLU, go for it! I personally did not have any luck with street parking and parked at the Whole Foods lot across the street. Soul Cycle SLUN does not validate like they do at the Bellevue location. However, Whole Foods offers validated 2 hour parking if you spend money there. Thankfully I had groceries I needed to get. Otherwise, it could be an extra expense for people that want to just go for a ride. Location: located across the street from Whole Foods on 9th and Westlake. The venue was shockingly bigger than I thought! Reading reviews everyone stated it was tiny. Not sure if they were comparing it to the Bellevue location or maybe the SLU FlyWheel? But if you compare to FlyWheel, it is way smaller! Compared to the Bellevue location it's actually laid out a lot better. You don't feel like you're bumping into your classmates as much. The layout of the bikes also is done in a way where I feel like I have more room to breathe. Swag: they have way more swag at this location! I already buy too much from here, but now that I'll be coming to the SLU location it could be really dangerous. Tons of sizes and the way the items are laid out it makes it easier to shop. I'll for sure be coming back here after work some days. It's probably only a 15 minute walk from my office so it'll be less annoying to walk over instead of trying to fight for parking on a weekday. They have showers and while I imagine they get busy on weekdays, They seem to have a pretty good system going for people showering. read more

Instructors are great (highly recommend Victoria H. and Evan). Both Victoria and Evan are really motivating and have killer playlists! Front staff was also really helpful and welcoming. I'm not from the area, but came in outside of the usual class hours and one of the staff (Sophie) helped me with recommending which instructors to try and tightened up my cleats for me. As mentioned by other reviewers, the bathrooms/showers are gender neutral. There were 4 showers (each behind a private door), and two bathrooms (each behind a private door). The line for the bathroom can be long, so would recommend changing prior to coming to class. read more

This was one of my first cycle classes, except for an occasional spin class at my regular gym which is free. I really loved the vibe they set with the dark candle lit room and loud music - it helps you to feel more comfortable and get in the zone. I didn't like how cramped the room itself was - there are some movements you do throughout the routine that involve arms movements etc. which I enjoyed incorporating, however, with the tight space you can end up bumping elbows with your neighbor. (I did a couple times) There is helpful staff, but with the dark, loud room even before the class begins - it's a challenge to flag down someone to help get your bike set up. Once you get someone's attention, they are very friendly and eager to help. Loved the instructors (I tried two separate classes) they are a true asset to this business. The locker area is awkward and when the class is prepping/finishing it is a TIGHT squeeze. All lockers are quite low to the ground and sort of shoved into the most narrow wall of the building. Wish they could have made more use of the space out front - maybe used the current locker area for their retail and used the more spacious area for the lockers? All in all a really fun class - just could use some minor tweaks to the facility. read more

Thrilled the SLU location is finally open and I don't have to make trips across the bridge to Bellevue to get a good workout. Great location; centralized enough in Seattle to make it convenient and accessible, but far enough out of downtown so parking isn't a complete hassle. Instructors are great (Jenna's my favorite, I highly recommend), staff is helpful and professional, and facilities are cute and clean. Slightly more crowded/cramped than the Bellevue location, but to be expected here in Seattle. Must try workout.. I'm hooked! It is a pricey group workout option compared to the alternatives but is still worth a shot - don't rule it out right away because of the price. read more

I heard SoulCycle is pretentious. This location is not really. My first time in, I was greeted and given tons of help setting up the bike just right and getting indoctrinated into what it was. But, in the first visit, a worker saw me on my phone and sort of rudely told me to put it in the locker. Then my mind changed to - oh crap, this place is pretentious. I did the workout and tried to not think about it, liked the instructor a lot and had fun. After, that worker came up to me and apologized, without prompt - said she didn't mean to be sassy and just clarified why that was a rule, and then I totally felt fine and didn't think about it again. Came back a few months later to use a second class I had and was about 2 minutes late, and it wasn't an issue, still got help with the bike and setup. Further, the two instructors I had also felt really comfortable. Felt no intense yelling or shaming happening, truly just encouraging people to do better and letting people go at their pace - you don't feel like you have to work way too hard, you can do what is right for your body at that time. Why 4 and not 5 stars? The cost, really. It's way out of range for what it is. $30 a pop, and about $4 for shoe rental each time. That's a lot of money. So I can only do it once in a while. They should offer a low-cost membership model that, perhaps, you don't get the most premier class options (like, I'd be game for a 6am class, or a 1pm Saturday class, or something less-busy). And shoe rentals should not cost anything, FlyWheel or CycleBar (allegedly) don't charge for those. read more

SoulCycle SLU provided a pleasant experience in a clean, sterile environment, with employees who seemed motivated to keep things moving (during check-in and class transition). The lobby and changing area is small; its layout is poor--while NYC, Palo Alto and Bellevue SC studios might be smaller, this is about the SLU location--with nearly as much room devoted to merch as to space for people to put on their cleats. The in-studio experience was marred by poor audio production: it was very difficult to understand what the instructor said during the ride. Her energy was frenetic but (and) felt overwhelming. The per class fee at SC is on the high end. Unlike several other spinning venues, there's no free sample class at SC. Did I sweat at SC? Yes. Can I work up a sweat someplace else for less money and feel great about it? Absolutely. I considered assigning 3 stars to SC instead of 2 stars but the 2-star rating is defined as "Meh. I've had better," and one day after my SC class, I tried a class at Fly Wheel SLU; I liked Fly Wheel much better. read more

I drove up from Portland to see family who were visiting Seattle for the weekend. I normally work out at Orangetheory in Portland and drop in occasionally to a few different local spinning studios for variety and cross training. Literally every reasonably located noontime Friday OTF Seattle class was full, so it occurred to me I could drop in to SoulCycle which I had been dying to try based on on what I had previously heard and read. I saw on Yelp about parking in the Whole Foods parking garage and buying something after class to get validated, so that saved me some time as I literally was coming from the road up from Portland and heading straight into class. I wasn't sure how to find my way from the garage, but a friendly woman held the elevator for me as I ran for it (I was rushing as time was cutting close). She happened to also be going to SoulCycle as well so she walked and chatted with me. The studio is gorgeous! I walked in and signed my digital paperwork at the front desk, then got my stuff situated in a locker. At first, I couldn't believe how many bikes were crammed into such a small space, but it was actually great because the volume of people in the room made the energy palpable. Victoria was a fantastic instructor and lived up to the reviews I'd read online. I loved the playlist. The fist bumps and high fives during class were fun too, as I'm used to that at OTF. I've never been to such an intense spin class, but this was totally up my alley. I came with my own spin shoes and concert/music earplugs, which I've learned to use in most of deafening workout classes. SoulCycle is SO LOUD. The bikes are a bit different than ones I've used before and there wasn't any introduction to the handlebar positions before class (unless I missed it), so that would've been useful. I was 1/3 of the way through class before I realized there was a middle handlebar (my towel was over it). The placement of the water bottle rest is low and awkward and I dropped my water bottle onto the floor the first time I attempted to put it back, so I had to unclip. It was also a little hard for me to find/reach my weights being unfamiliar with the bikes. I'm sure it's something I'd get used to with repetition, but it's possibly #shortpeopleproblems. I left class feeling like I'd given it my all and dripping in sweat. I'm still sore two days later. So great! I had planned on changing my clothes after class before going to meet up with my family, but that didn't really seem like it was going to happen with the small number of changing rooms/ bathrooms and large number of people lurking around after class. That's really my only complaint, but I had so much fun in class that I can't knock off a star for that. I left wishing I had time to take another class the next day before heading home. Seattle is known for the "Seattle Freeze" but I didn't feel any of that at Soul Cycle South Lake Union! I will definitely take another class here next time I am up in Seattle. read more

SoulCycle is my weekly retreat from my busy work schedule. The studio is always clean and smells fresh. SoulCycle offers gum and hair ties if you need it before/after class. This studio also has a few showers and bathrooms (I will say the showers are bit less private than Bellevue since they are sort of in an open area) and several big mirrors if you need to get ready after class. I highly recommend class with Jenna. Jenna frequently reminds her classes to take the energy you gave in class to someone who needs it, and I love that! I have also taken classes with Earl and Evan and both are great too. This location is conveniently next to Whole Foods. If you're looking for parking you can park in the Whole Foods parking lot and buy something small at Whole Foods to get your parking ticket validated. read more

I've been to SoulCycle SLUN 4x now with Jenna. I'm not a morning person, but I look forward to her 6 and 7:30 am classes. I always leave so energized and positive to seize my day. There's also something about running for your life on a bike, staring at yourself in the mirror, and hearing her say "you're worth it!" A surge of emotions Every. Damn. Time. I was scared to sign up for SC, especially because I was trying to get back to a fitness routine after a 3 year hiatus (post baby). But it's really such a welcoming community. People of all shapes and sizes (far from the ads you see!). Its therapy I look forward to every week - endorphins and positive vibes. It's my safe space. It's not Orangetheory, but it will kick your ass. It really depends on the effort you put into it. My first time was fun. My second time - I turned that knob twice more for a deeper burn. So leave those assumptions and stereotypes behind, try a class. And to that dark haired guy (I keep forgetting to ask your name!) who helps me set up my bike every time, you're amazing. All these complaints about poor layout are correct but it's definitely not unique to Seattle. Go to some of the studios in NYC or Palo Alto- all of the studios are cramped. It is what it is. This place does not deserve the low marks it's getting. The classes are phenomenal- I have yet to find an instructor I don't like (Special shout out to Evan and Earl!!! I get up early on my weekends just to attend their classes), The staff is organized, friendly, and turn over the room the quickest I've ever seen. I was really excited to see SoulCycle opening a new location in Seattle proper. The classes, equipment, & instructors are great but the size & layout of the space is terrible. I've been to several studios across the country and have not seen any with this layout. The fact that there's only 4 unisex showers for an entire class with no other changing area is absurd and really disappointing. I love going to SoulCycle and justify the costs because the studios tend to be really nice but would not recommend this location to someone, especially when there's several other cycle options in this area. read more

As a Peloton rider I prefer to know my metrics to make sure I am getting a tough workout. However, SoulCycle is a great cardio workout that is a good supplement to my Peloton classes. I wish this studio was set up better and so far it is one of the worst I have been to. The acoustics in the studio are horrible and I cannot understand the instructors which negatively affects the ride. Bathroom lines are long and it is too crowded getting in and out of the studio. The only thing that keeps it in my routine is that it is so close to Amazon. read more

I LOVE this place! Gorgeous storefront and facility-- super aesthetically pleasing (ugh, AND it smells good-- you can purchase the candles there). Front desk staff is sweet and helpful. Victoria and April are my favorite instructors (admittedly, I haven't gone to any others) and they're seriously incredible, badass, motivating women. I look forward to every class I get to go to. As most of you know, it's incredibly pricey (about $32 a class if you rent shoes)-- so I let myself come once every few weeks as a little treat to switch up my workout routines. Most the employees I've delt with have been great but she refused to refund or reschedule. As a first timer to any Soul Cycle, I found the staff to be very helpful. The location was clean and bright before 6AM. There was a buzz about the place before Jenna's class. Then the music and instruction started and I thought my eardrums were going to explode. I may have actually suffered permanent hearing damage. On my way out people said "oh yeah, you have to wear ear plugs in there". Isn't that a sign that it's WAY too loud and while people may be getting a great workout, it's not worth the hearing loss. I'd strongly recommend another cycle studio who doesn't feel the need to blast you out of the room. read more

I love this studio! I agree that the "layout" complaints seem a tad high maintenance. Try PALO ( worst layout consistently waitlisted and popular studio) and almost any downtown NYC studio and you will feel like SLUN is extravagantly spacious.
