I'm NOT going to RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT. The portion sizes are definitely small. The attitudes by staff and owners are atrocious. I do not trust the cleanliness or quality of this restaurant. This was our fourth visit to "The Pig Place", as our boys lovingly call it. They root for it anytime we give them a say in where we are eating out - I'm sure the free ice cream at the end of the meal is a big reason! If my husband and I are rooting for Soulman's, it's for the Frontier Fries, the ribs, sausage, and the mac and cheese! SO good! The hand cut fries, loaded with melty cheese and BBQed meat and jalapeños , smothered in their famous bbq sauce, and dipped in (homemade?) ranch - my ideal meal! I love a good salad - all we are doing here is exchanging my bed of greens with another veggie, albeit a fried one, and topping it in salad dressing! Still counts! Our family of 4 can share the 3 meat plate and the frontier fries AND score a tasty desert at the end for under $40 - another reason to love Soulman's! We are grateful to have a restaurant that's practically in our neighborhood that is consistently delicious and isn't a big chain! So glad they turned the sad, old 7-11 into something our family roots for! read more

All I have to say is it's the nastiest, no having seasoning food I've ever tasted.the macaroni was bland the cabbage tasted blah the ribs had the color but no real soul food seasoning .. why yall call it this anyways there was no real seasoning at all .. never again will I go back I spent $58 here and that's will be the last time . read more

We had only been here once before when they first opened. The service was great, both times we came. This time, we ordered out and enjoyed our meal at home. The chicken quarters were moist and had deep flavors that were present throughout. Seriously, the meat was so flavorful! The green beans had good flavoring and were cooked to perfection. The mashed potatoes and white gravy were just good enough, but no need for award winning potatoes when the chicken is boss! We got a small amount of sliced beef. It had good flavor and was super lean. Although we got our food for takeout, the restaurant looked clean. Geographically, we have lots of fast food around us, but not much quality home style cooked food. This was not a "cheap" meal, but it was not cheaply prepared either. Really good and worth the price. I really like soulmans. It is a bit expensive. I have a suggestion for you. Could you put together a sampler platter for $16-$20. Maybe bite size sandwiches of your meats with maybe a rib and other offerings. If I could taste more of your offering, I would probably spend more on the items I liked. read more

I liked the food, but I wasn't bowled over by any one thing that I ate. The service was great. The staff were friendly and helpful with helping me make my food choices. I thought their ribs were better than the brisket and I appreciated they had a catfish option. I would go back because I think this is a good family dining option. read more

7 months later and slight minor upgrade to this joint. This time I changed my meat to chicken and brisket and spicy sausage. Very impressed with the chicken it was good and juicy buuut the brisket still sucks it was dried out and had no flavor. The spicy sausage was actually really good. Would of been a 4th star but it was barely 12:30pm and they had no pulled pork and no mashed potatoes. Floors were slick so be careful. read more

After reading my review of their Ft. Worth Location on Sycamore School Road, Soulman's Corporate Offices reached out to me twice!!! I can truly say that they are a company that really cares about their restaurants and what people think about their food!!! The first time, they refunded our credit cards for all the money that we spent for the food that we bought in Ft Worth, and they refunded it very quickly!!! I was so thankful!!! As I explained to both Jorge & Brandon, I was very embarrassed because I had taken my brother, who was visiting from out of town (he lives in New Mexico) to eat there, thinking, "Man, are we going to enjoy some good food!!!" It was awful to be so disappointed!!! So, although, I have no idea if the food has improved as of yet at the Ft. Worth location, at least I feel better at having gotten thru to someone who cares enough to have that situation investigated!!! I truly believe that they'll work to make sure that it is right!!! I was also BLESSED by their generosity when I received a Gift Card today, that more than made up for the money that I had spent from the gift card that I had used as partial payment!!! The girl taking the meat order was extremely rude. My daughter asked for a chopped brisket sandwich with mashed potatoes. The girl then said so you want mashed potatoes on the sandwich. The girl at the register and that made the sides was very sweet but when the first person you see is rude it ruins the whole experience. She made a rude comment on each of our orders. read more

WOW! The food and service are outstanding here!! I decided to try this place out the evening of Mother's Day because I was in the mood for BBQ. All the staff were very welcoming! I had a brisket plate with coleslaw and green beans that came with very tasty BBQ sauce on the side and a yummy piece of Texas toast - perfect!! A piece of pecan pie topped with ice cream was just right for dessert. I'll definitely eat here again, and I recommend you give it a try as well! read more

We were regular customers who visit the Sycamore School location on Saturday, September 7; 2024 (around 3:00 pm) and will not return to this establishment! I have a pork allergy and have never had a problem with my order request for separate utensils being used for my order. Prior to my order, I observed the meat cutter utilizing a knife to cut pork ribs. i informed the Caucasian female meat cutter that I needed my brisket cut with a different knife because I have a pork allergy; she responded "yes ma'am". Other than the order prior to us, the restaurant was empty. The meat cutter began slicing the brisket with the same knife she had used to cut the pork rib bones. I reminded her of my request, she responded "I heard you". I asked her why she continued with my order using the same knife, she didn't respond. i told her to cancel my order because I could not take the risk of becoming ill, she looked up and continued slicing. Due to her rudeness, poor customer service and total disrespect my entire party left, and vowed to never return. Now we know why the restaurant was empty ... good help is hard to find! read more

They've changed a few things. I love their BBQ potato, but ordered it yesterday and some things have changed. Previously, the potato was cooked until it was practically creamy, which was perfect. This time it was chunky. No matter how long you reheat it, the potato remains chunky. The BBQ itself on top of the potato was odd. It was cut into tiny circles of meat. While it was somewhat tasty, the appearance was unappetizing. Honestly, it looked like dog food. read more

In light of the previous review, I must say the brisket is really good. The problem is he's ordering it wrong. A little trick I've learned is to always request (anywhere you go) to them to leave the fat ON the brisket. You can remove it before you eat it, but it keeps it from drying out and that's where the flavor is. I do agree the ribs are dry and I was disappointed and will not order them again. The ham is delicious if they give you the nice pink pieces. They once gave me a bunch of overcooked dried out dark slices I made them replace. The sausage is really tasty and flavorful. The Texas toast is great; I always get an extra slice. Buttery goodness! I love the spicy cabbage and the green beans Granted, they are the canned type dressed up but I like them that way. And holy yummy fried okra! My Achilles heel. If it's fresh it's fantastic. I sometimes go there to order it only but ask for a fresh batch if it's cold and been sitting there too long under the heat lamp. It's worth it to wait another 5 minutes. The Mac and cheese was the only disappointing side imo. It had an overwhelming smoke flavor and was really mushy and cloying. My husband likes the potato salad but I have not tried it. I will try the mashed potatoes next time because they have the white country gravy I prefer. I haven't tried the baked beans because I don't like those kind of beans. Overall, I think it's a great choice and for me, it's right down the street so that helps. read more

Service was good, took a little while to order but there were quite a few people in line and only 3 people working. More if you count the times they didn't give me the pennies to round out my change. But I don't care about pennies. I do care about nickels and dimes, though.
