I walked in to the store and was greeted by a very friendly staff. They asked that I was looks for, then showed me all the electric guitars, they had a very nice selection. Brian said look around if you have any questions let him know, and he let me browse for what I was interested in, when I found one I asked one of the staff to play it for me so I could hear how it sounds, because I am not that good. It was a great used guitar for a great price, I asked Brain to hook me up with a case and a black star mini amplifier again he gave me a good price.I went home to play and found the stings hurt my fingers call Brian he said come on back. He put softer strings on for me at no charge. I also bought a package of lessons for the holidays buy three and get one free great deal. This place is the epitome of a neighborhood music shop. Everyone is knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. I have four kids who love to play music and over the 15+ years we have been visiting the store, my kids have rented instruments, purchased sheet music, gotten repairs, and occasionally taken lessons there. If they don't have it in stock, they will get it for you. If there's a problem, they will work with you. If you need something ASAP, they will do everything they can to put a rush on it. If you want to try out a new instrument or genre of music, they can help with that. And they give back to the community! read more

I had heard a lot of great things about their guitar techs So I decided to bring them my project Strat to install the neck and a new nut. Initially, it went well but after a short time, 2 of the strings started to buzz. I brought it back and he said he could fix it. When it was returned, he had fixed the nut and added string trees but they also charged me for another set up. I figured that's okay as long as it's fixed. Well after a couple more weeks, it's still not a 100% buzz free. I'm not sure if it's neck action or the nut but it should have been looked at after I brought it there twice and was charged twice. At this point I don't think I'll bring it back for a 3rd time. It's a shame because the staff was very friendly and the store was very nice and had great selection.. ​ I would have liked to have made it my new go to music store.. read more

The WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!! I called Sound Beach music in May of this year to try to return my daughter's viola early. I was told no as that isn't on the contract as I had to keep it till June. I explained to them that June into July we would be away and I would not be able to return the instrument. They assured me that when I returned it in July, there would be no late charge. I got multiple emails saying that it was late so I emailed and got no response and then I called. it was late as I knew it would be as I explained in May as we were going on a Grief Retreat for for the loss of our son/kids baby brother!!!! Whenwe got back, we brought the instrument and they charged us a late fee when I was told on the phone there would not be one. the owner told me I was a liar!! He was rude And very entitled. We've been customers for over 30 years and he couldn't refund $60 over something that has been explained months prior. I am so incredibly disappointed as this was a great place to rent instruments from however, I highly suggest you stay away because not only are they rude. They obviously do not care about their continued customers!! CALLING ME A LIAR when I had NO problem returning the instrument early, as she wasn't playing it anymore. I went to GuitarCenter for accessories and maintenance supplies. They barely had any stock of anything. There were only a few guitars hanging on their walls. I looked up music stores in my area. I found Sound Beach Music, which is only 5 minutes from my home. It's much closer than GuitarCenter. Not only did Sound Beach Music have everything I was looking for, the staff was knowledgeable about the instruments and they were very pleasant. I found my new home for music. read more

Absolutely refused to sell me merchandise without collecting "data" on me. Just wanted to pay cash for $80 worth of odds and ends and not give them my personal info AND they wouldn't do i!. WTF??? I guess business is so good there, they can let money walk right out the door. I have a substantial collection of guitars and amps and am always looking for more stuff. They even had an $1,000.00 Supro amp that I would have tried out and most likely bought on my next trip in, but they turned me off with their high pressure need for personal info. Also, they don't seem to understand the phrase "thanks, I just want to look around for a few minutes, never been in here before", within 3 minutes, I was approached 3 times by 3 different people trying to "help" me. I went there when I was in High School to purchase a drum kit as me and my buddies began a "garage band".. many many many years later I just started going back there again, as my interest in musical instruments transformed into Harmonicas, lol. I've frequented Sound Beach Music only a handful of times in the past year, but I have received pleasant service every time. Upon my initial visit I spent a great deal of time speaking with the Store Manager about harmonicas and what to make for my initial purchase. Even though I took up a great deal of the Manager's time, he was very amiable, personable, and helpful. He did not try to push off the most expensive item in stock on me, and he helped me find alternatives to the items he suggested. He neglected to whip out the bellows and give me a product demonstration of my new purchase before ringing me up (so I know i'm buying something that works!) but that may have simply been a slip of the mind. Every time since I asked him to put one of my items up to the bellows, they remember every time now to do so. (A device to push air through the harmonica, to ensure it is working properly) I usually see plenty of high school age children sitting around the shop during after-school hours, plugging away on a guitar that is connected to the amps on the sales floor, and I know that most lessons are conducted in private, so what I saw on the sales floor was simply product demonstrations and general customer service, an A+ in my book. They have a fairly large staff, I usually see new faces every time I go in. Which makes sense, since they offer musical lessons in almost every instrument they sell. read more

Sound Beach Music has always been my first place to go for any musical need. The staff is knowledgeable and if you play violin come here. Brian takes good care of you. I have played violin professionally for 15 years and I will only come to him for rehairs and repairs. If you are pressed for time for a performance he will stay up the night before to get it done by the next day. As far as a previous review regarding the store being unfriendly to children this is simply not true. When my four year old comes with me they will gladly set him up with an electric drum kit to play as long as he likes. We have done this several times with video to prove it. I'm a pro musician, and needed a guitar repair done quickly, so I checked out local repair shops and music stores in my immediate vicinity. Sound Beach Music was about the closest to me. I dropped in with my guitar and got a quick assessment of the problem -- no guitar-store tech nonsense, no upselling, just a simple, straightforward, and quite reasonable estimate. In two days my guitar was repaired, and the cost came in well under the estimate. As an added wrinkle, payment had to be made on my business partner's credit card. The employee handling the sale was very pleasant and low key. He had me call my partner, who was out of state, then processed the credit card info and finished the transaction in less than five minutes. Try something like that at Guitar Center. A plus: I also bought a foot pedal for my keyboard, and a new guitar cable, and both were very reasonably priced. I can't recommend this store highly enough. I will definitely be back. read more

This place must have changed owners !!! I went in tonight to rent a violin for my 10 yr old son who is starting the 5th grade. My 4 yr old sat at a kids sized drum set, there was a pair of drum sticks on the set and no sign saying not to play like there were on other drum sets in the store. He began to play on the drums when this middle aged woman with an accent came running over and ripped the drum sticks out his hands, and started yelling at him. If the store wasn't packed with other kids I would have told her where to go. I left the store and called to speak with the owner who's name I was told is Brian, after a few minutes of being on hold I was told he could not come to the phone and If I wanted to talk to him I would have to call him back tomorrow morning. This is not a child friendly store and I will be telling everyone I see in a very small town. read more

Brought in my son's trumpet for a $30 repair. They proceeded to do $120 worth of repairs without my authorization and then were gracious enough to give me a 30% discount on repairs we did not want. The $30 repair broke again 2 months later and they wanted to charge me another $30. Poor quality repair and 3rd rate customer service is a bad combination. I'm a regular customer at Sound Beach. If I could buy groceries and pay my mortgage there I probably would. They are that good. There is an associate named George who is really outstanding, but the atmosphere is general is very professional; and they treat their customers with honor. As a musician and former music teacher, I really don't understand the concept of a "kid-friendly" music store, referring to one of the reviewer comments. Musical instruments are not toys! While kids should be and are welcome (the store also offers music lessons), they do not have the right to be disruptive and "act out" with the merchandise. So refreshing to go to a store and not see someone's kids running around and/or screaming. No, the staff member should probably not have grabbed the drum sticks out of the kid's hands, but the parent should have! In any case, this store is truly a musician's friend and an oasis in the eastern Long Island desert. read more

Me and my family have always gotten our supplies from here and when I was a teenager I started lessons with Brian, who ended up buying the store. The staff here is always friendly and willing to help. For several years I was a loyal customer for this establishment- I play several instruments and have shopped there for every item I needed. Last year I decided to spend some of my birthday money to purchase a new guitar to replace the ancient one I'd been using. I spent $200 on an Ibanez Gio- more than I could actually afford, but I liked the feel of it- fortunately, since it was only one of two guitars in my price range. I came home and found there was a buzz on the second fret of the low-E string. I took the guitar back to the store for either repair or exchange... the tech's answer to the problem was to loosen the truss rod until the buzz went away, thus rendering the REST of the guitar completely useless. They wouldn't exchange the defective merchandise, and I was asked, "What did you expect for $200?" Well, I expected equipment that works for money I technically can't afford... and I also expected just a tiny bit less attitude from a store I'd faithfully patronized up until that point. I've fixed the guitar myself- a sliver of matchbook cover under the nut solved the problem- and the guitar works fine now, even if it's a little ugly. Thank God I learned how to set up my own guitars and don't have to worry about my beloved equipment being butchered by a bad tech. Long and short, I have no intention of ever shopping in this store again- the extra gas money to drive to Guitar Center is worth getting first-class service and the piece of mind knowing that if my brand-new equipment doesn't work I can always get it exchanged. read more

They over charge for repairs only for the instrument to need repairs a few weeks after initial repair. Rip off. Don't have your instruments repaired here! I have rented from them for 5 years (without issue) for both my kids. My one child accidentally dropped his trumpet on the ground while marching in band and you would have thought, according to them, my son used it as a baseball bat. It cost us $170 to have it fixed. I understand the need to pay for the repair of a rented instrument, but the price was quite unfair. It wasn't a new trumpet to begin with. Once the repair was completed they harassed me until I returned the rental they had lent my son while his was being fixed. Threatening to charge me the full value of the instrument if it wasn't returned. Who would want to keep an old rental trumpet anyway? The customer service aspect was horrible. They got their rental back and an additional $170 for repairs. My daughter also had her own flute and I had it serviced by them last year. It cost me $350 to have it completely refurbished. I was shocked at the price but paid it. A few weeks later the band teacher sent it home saying it was broken and needed additional pads replaced (they were supposedly brand new). I brought it back and they charged me another $100 plus dollars to fix it. It is now having issues with the pads again. I will not use Sound Beach Music because they can't seem to fix things the first time and their customer service needs an overhaul. read more
