TLDR: Go with Jimmy for your roof replacement. We needed a roof replacement for our newly purchased home and we are so glad we went with Sound Set Roofing. As first time homeowners, we did a lot of research on types of roofs and roofing companies, but still felt overwhelmed by the options and expenses. We received 4 quotes from big to small companies and Jimmy, the owner of Sound Set Roofing, was the most hands on contractor we met with, from drawing pictures to help us visualize the new venting system, to patiently explaining the step by step process multiple times. His bid was competitive and time frame was reasonable (beware of companies that guarantee next day 1 day roof replacements). Unlike other companies, there was no upfront deposit required, we paid on the first day of work and after completion. We especially appreciated that Jimmy was the only contractor that went into the attic to feel the plywood to give a better estimate of the damage and number of sheets needed to be replaced and walked around the roof to feel the shingles and chimney (other companies took a peek from the attic access panel and used drones to take pictures). During the project, Jimmy sent updated pictures showing us the condition of the old roof and each step of the way (plywood, underlayment, etc). Plywood was put on our deck to protect it. After the work each day, the crew cleaned up the space nicely. We went with Malarkey Vistas shingles and the quality of work is outstanding (Sound Set Roofing is certified by Malarkey). Sound Set Roofing did a great job on our roof repair. I put out a request for bids on Yelp and had mixed results. One company had a $2,000 minimum. Another scheduled an on-site estimate in 2 weeks, which didn't work for our timeline. Jimmy at SSR messaged me with a reasonable quote over Yelp almost right away. I spoke to him later that afternoon, and he was on the roof getting the repair done by dinner time. The repair (flashing coming up on the roof) looks good, and he also re-sealed the pipes and chimney flashing while he was up there. All of that and the work was on the low end of the range from his original estimate. We've had some problems with vents and fans for some time. Sound set fixed our issues once and for all. He upgraded our flimsy, plastic, broken vents across the roof to metal, and put on the proper venting solution for the hood, which on our roof was the wrong type of vent. During rain times, we could always hear the rain ping the vent at the hood. No more of that! He also inspected the roof altogether and found a few areas where branches had come down and damaged the shingles. He color matched the shingles and fixed those locations. He also inspected the flashing at the chimney and recommended a mason inspect it as well, since it's original and countersunk into the mortar, but starting to separate. He took before photos and shared them with us while discussing the problems and walked through all the things he did before leaving. Materials and labor were $650. Communication and scheduling was easy, and the day of service, he communicated the adjusted timing of arrival. He arrived on time for the estimate (called before he arrived) and assessed the damage and promised to send a written quote by email. The work: The repair was not too complicated, a section needed to be replaced, gutters and rafter and facia also needed to be replaced and re-painted. They cleaned up 100% after themselves and made sure I was satisfied before leaving.
