To tomato, broccoli, and spinach soup
Goku U.

We have no words for this place. It's amazing fresh soup that was definitely enjoyed on a cold rainy day. We had the spinach, tomato basil, and the broccoli soup. The soups come with a little baguette. You can also taste a bit of the soup before ordering. We would definitely come back and try the other varieties of we come back to Amsterdam.

Soup en zo roughly translates into soups and stuff (or soup and that if you want to get really technical) and is a great little lunch spot that does great soups and sandwiches- especially on a cool spring day! They've also recently started an open salad bar (so you see what salads they have freshly made) and it becomes a point, weigh and pay option! The list of soups available changes day to day, most of the them (around 3-5) on the menu are vegetarian and vegan friendly, with 1-2 meat eater friendly options too- and each soup comes with a delicious little bread roll.. but really, you should spoil yourself and get the cheese stick which they bake fresh in-house for €1.10. What's great about this little spot is that they'll let you try any of the soups before you make a decision- but it doesn't help the lunch time rush! The shop gets awfully busy around lunch time- so sometimes the line is well out the door and be aware, there's nowhere to sit inside for a meal. Once you pay it's time to get out, before the crush of the others customers comes up behind you!

Their soup is so good! I got Thai mushroom and my friend got the red bell pepper soup. The medium size was plenty for lunch. I have a tree nut allergy and they were very helpful for accommodating my allergy. I would definitely recommend eating here! It was reasonably priced at around $6 per medium sized soup. There is seating outside or you can take it to go. They accept credit cards. There were many soups to choose from and they all looked great!

The soups and the sides were very delicious

We stoped here back in Aug. We were looking for good comforting food and we found this soup place. Very good, fresh and good flavor. Walk distance from our hotel. Little pricey for soup but it was worth it. Suggestions: maybe consider some seating accommodations since we had to seat across the street in some other business establishment. This may improve more customers to come to this place and eat. Overall was delicious

When it is cold outside and raining, the only remedy is warm soup and the best bread ever!

Delicious and fresh ingredients, made with care. Lots of good vegetarian options:). A friendly nice break from window shopping.

And despite ALL of our meals in Amsterdam being excellent, this one may have been the best. We wanted to try Dutch food, not totally knowing what to expect and were blown away by the combination of flavors and textures we consumed. We started with the pickled herring which was served with onions and pickles- fresh yet bold! I'm still thinking about those little fishies weeks later. Then we each had the sampler-ish plates (I forget what it was called). Hers was the vegetarian version and mine was with sausage. There were 3 kinds of essentially mashed potatoes with veggies mixed in: 1 with spinach I think, 1 with carrots, and 1 with sauerkraut. Mine came with a delightfully rich gravy and my moms came with some kind of lighter yellow sauce (I think mustard based). We tried these same dishes at other Dutch restaurants during our stay, but nothing beat The Pantry. The service in this quaint and cozy spot was also excellent!

Portions are substantial and a very good value in a neighborhood where tourist-markups are the norm. They have a/c, but in order to feel it you'll need to sit closer to the back of the restaurant/near the kitchen, as there is only one wall unit back there, and they leave the front of the restaurant open to the elements (even in 98+ degree heat).

We dropped off our little frame with our mothers in it. The server originally asked us to place it wherever we see fit, but the owner (she has the manager vibe) came over and helped us picked an even better spot! Service was what I thought was slow, but then we learned that Dutch people are very customer-focused, so we had to initiate an eye contact and signal to them that we are ready to close our check. I also found out that tipping is not required. Who would have thought? Oh, and also water is not free. Lastly, be sure to make a reservation because this place very packed for the duration of our meal and some people got turned away.
