To my surprise, even the Novocain shots didn't hurt.The staff, including receptionists and surgical assistants, were all polite and professional. So there I was lying in the dental chair, a quivering anxious 250 pound bearded mess of a man anticipating the worst pain of my life. Sure, I have raced Ironman, fought MMA, and routinely bit into Geno's Pizza Rolls straight outta the microwave without letting them cool off. I'm a self-proclaimed beast of a man. But this was different. This was a dreaded ROOT CANAL. The big bopper of dental pain. Drills. Drills galore - all medieval shapes and sizes. More drilling than West Texas and the Middle East combined. There were no puppy dogs & rainbows here folks. This was to be 2-3 hours of clutching the armrests and hoping I didn't scream like a little girl. Am I painting you a pretty picture here? Enter Dr. Roh. OK she seems nice. I scanned her CV - she trained at Columbia. Ivy League - that's impressive. Like Good Will Hunting impressive, right? Anyone's mom would agree that's a fantastic school. Well, I'll be honest between her expertise and the copious amounts of nitrous oxide, the entire procedure was a breeze. 2-3 hours of listening to Enya and this cowboy was drifting off daydreaming and doing interpretive dance in my head. Blissful. I didn't feel a thing. Yes, Dr. Roh has the hands of an angel. Would I recommend root canals? No. Absolutely not. BUT considering I dealt with constant pain and infections for 5 years, and this divine deity of dental Endodontics was able to cure me in a single sitting is miraculous. Call the Vatican. My primary dental doctor send me last year to this place for evaluation of root channel for a couple teeth. Dr Jeffrey Hom explained me all options after careful examination , and I was very impressed by his skills and patience , dealing with customer, who asked a lot of questions. Half of year later I was again in his office for root channel treatment to eliminate infection in another tooth. Dr Hom and his nurses , Amber and Rocio, made me feel during all procedure very comfortable and completely painless. Dr. Hom communicated to his nurses very polite, friendly and precise , and everybody in operating room felt very comfortable. After procedure I had a conversation with upfront secretaries Mary Lu, Cindy and Simona, who were dealing with payment, insurance claims and future appointments. I can't say enough fantastic things about this practice and especially my experience with Dr. Chheda. About 5 weeks prior to seeing Dr. Chheda I had a crown replaced. My tooth was sore after and it continually got worse by the day until it was unbearable. Dr. Chheda took amazing care of me and did it all with literally no pain. He asked me many times during the procedure if I was okay and proceeded cautiously. He was very gentle. He was able to numb me right away which had been a problem in the past with other doctors. Afterwards I didn't even have to take more than Tylenol. His assistant Ericka was wonderful too. She was very caring and comforting throughout the procedure. Lauren at the front desk was also great. If I ever have to have a root canal again I would not hesitate to come here to see anyone in this office, especially Dr. Chheda. read more

I was referred here to get a consultation and retreatment of a root canal. Had to pay $400 for them just to tell me that they couldn't extract the tooth because it was fractured and had to be referred to another specialist. To make matters worse, the tech who was taking care of me had terrible bed side manners. Was hurting my mouth when trying to take X-rays by stabbing me in the gums in the infected area of my mouth. She wasn't at all gentle and never said sorry when I told her she was hurting me. read more

I've been meaning to write this for ages, better late than never I guess ! Dr. Hom treated his staff so well in front of me, kind, polite, courteous, friendly, and I think that kind of personality is great for a dentist as it makes his patients feel good too and transfers over in the care and time taken with the patient. I've never been made to feel as comfortable in having a root canal as I did here. And if any "nice dentist" in Irvine CA happens to be reading this, you could take lessons in treating your staff well, it makes your patients feel uncomfortable when you treat them like crap in front of them. My mouth is in much better shape after seeing dentists/specialists who are genuinely nice, it transfers to their patients and makes them more likely to make appointments and get care. read more

I came to South Austin MicroEndodontics for a consultation for a root canal. The office was very clean and the front staff amiable, helping me with my insurance when I realized I had forgotten my insurance card. After meeting with Dr. Chheda's assistants who made me feel at ease, I spent quite a bit of time talking with Dr. Chheda himself regarding my tooth. He was very thorough in explaining to me the procedures he would need to perform and even though I ended up needing a completely different treatment, I left with enough knowledge to know what exactly was going on with my tooth. If I do ever need to have a root canal performed, I wouldn't hesitate about making an appointment with Dr. Chheda and will recommend his office to those needing treatment. read more

I visited the Kyle location and if I could give 10 stars I would. Had a horrible bridge done that caused 2 root canals and Dr. Strother went above and beyond for my care. The receptionist was awesome as were the techs that assisted. I felt calm which I have anxiety and I would highly recommend their office. Dr. Strother noticed a concern that I feel my general dentist should have pointed out and that just took me over the edge with the high level of care. Nobody likes getting a root canal, but they made it the best experience it could possibly be. The office staff were very friendly and understanding of the fact that in general, people don't really want to go to a place that specializes in root canals. It's just not a fun experience that many go out of their way to enjoy. Dr. Sermeno de Castillo was friendly and compassionate, and made sure to answer any questions and explain exactly what would be happening. The techs were friendly and attentive as well. Digital X-rays were a big plus, reducing time having to wait around for X-rays. 5 stars overall, I wouldn't recommend anyone go here, but sometimes you have to do things you don't want for your own health and well-being, and South Austin Microendodontics makes it as pleasant as it can be. Highly recommend Dr. Hom and South Austin Microendodontics. Called their office with an emergency referral for sever pain, after waiting for days for Edge Endo to return my calls to be able to schedule an appointment, and Dr. Hom saw me the next day and retreated my root canal to alleviate my pain. Very professional staff and very experienced doctors. I do NOT recommend Edge Endo and was very disappointed with Edge Endo because they would not see me or even return my calls given that I told them my insurance will pay 100% for emergency visit, so I called South Austin Microendodontics and scheduled an appointment with Dr. Hom the next day. I recently had a root canal performed by Dr. Meredith Overstreet. Some background: I first visited South Austin Micro in Mar 2016 on a recommendation by my dentist for a rear molar that would get sensitive to chewing every once in a while. I was leaving for 2 weeks to Nicaragua and wanted to make sure the tooth was looked at before I left. I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Overstreet. She explained the X-ray results and they were kind of inconclusive. On the bite test, the tooth would hurt in the release, not the bite. She thought that the tooth probably had a micro fracture and the nerve would be irritated from time to time. She told me that a root canal most likely would be needed for permanent repair. I opted not to have the procedure done then, but instead to monitor it. She gave me some antibiotics in case of a flair up in Nicaragua. The trip went fine with no tooth issues. Over the course of the rest of 2016 and first half of 2017' the tooth would flare up a little and then subside again. I visited Dr. Overstreet again in the July '17 timeframe. But by then, the flare up had again subsided with no pain at all on the bite test. She was very patient and told me that I could continue to monitor it or have the procedure at that time. I decided to monitor again. Well, after the most recent flare up I scheduled the procedure. I have to say that this was probably the most pleasant dental procedure ever. She is a true artist in her field. She numbed me up, gave me instructions on how to flag her when any discomfort was noticed, explained the procedure thoroughly, and was genuinely concerned for my comfort level. I watched a movie with the special eyeglass viewer and felt NO pain whatsoever. I really enjoyed the conversation that we had before, during, and after the procedure was completed with Dr. Overstreet and her assistant Kelly. I cant 't say enough about Kelly either. Very personable and efficient. I even got a recommendation for some new salsa. I bought it and it was awesome. Bottom line... This is a 5 Star business and you will receive the highest level of treatment from people that make your experience as pleasant as possible. read more

I came to South Austin Microendodontics for my first (and hopefully only) root canal. I made an appointment for consultation and same-day treatment with Dr. Overstreet, however I did not mention beforehand that I would require sedation, so I did not receive treatment that day but still had my consultation with her. She looked at x-rays, examined my teeth, and explained to me what a root canal is and how it's done. She was friendly and informative. She told me that after they anesthetize they test the tooth with a -22 degree swab to make sure it's sufficiently numbed! That settled some serious nerves for me. A few weeks later I came back for treatment, which was performed by Dr. Chheda. I was still nervous even after what Dr. Overstreet had told me during my consultation, so I opted for nitrous oxide. There was no pain and no discomfort, and I was actually able to enjoy the music I was listening to with my headphones! Apparently my teeth have super long roots and the tooth that required treatment is weird, so my root canal needed two appointments. The second round of treatment I was able to do with no sedation! Seriously! Dr. Chheda explained everything to me and he took additional imaging during and after treatment to make sure he got everything taken care of. He is thorough, friendly, and candid. Selena assisted the doctor for both procedures and she is chatty and amiable. Before treatment we talked (which helped keep me calm), she answered my questions, introduced me to some of the equipment they would be using, she frequently checked with me to make sure all was okay, and even loaned me a blanket for my second treatment appointment. Amber helped with taking some of the post-treatment x-rays and she was also friendly and warm. Danielle and Lupe at the desk are great too...in fact, the whole staff is fantastic! Seriously y'all, get your root canal done here. I can assure you that if ever I need another one, I won't go anywhere else. These guys are awesome! Dr. Melanie Overstreet is my hero. As teeth are prone to do, a tooth went bad in a split second. On a drive back from Colorado. One minute admiring the mountains. The next minute feeling like I had been hit in the head with a baseball bat. My regular dentist couldn't find anything on the x-ray and didn't want to start doing random root canals to his credit. Dr. Overstreet also didn't see anything on an x-ray. So she did a 3D scan and found a microscopic crack. That little crack caused a world of hurt. Getting a root canal is never fun, but Dr. Chheda takes extra care to insure that his patients are as comfortable as possible. I mentioned having issues with the local anesthetic administered during a root canal I had several years ago. He administered extra, checked for numbness, temperature sensitivity before continuing, and checked in with me periodically throughout the procedure. I'll have to wait a few days before I know how effective the procedure was. But for now, I can definitely say the experience itself was 10/10 as far as getting dental work goes. read more

I would venture to say that Dr. Hom is the best doctor in Austin, working on your teeth. I had a root canal that I was scared to death to get, but my jaw hurt so much, I went in. This was surprisingly a wonderful experience! I never thought I would say that about having a root canal. I was so nervous beforehand and quickly realized I was in great hands and safe. This was my second root canal, the first in 2012 with Dr. Hom as well. The difference this time was the extreme caution and safety taken due to Covid. Every precaution was taken! So let's face the facts, needing a root canal seriously sucks! If your reading this its likely that you have a painful tooth and probably need a root canal and you want to punch me for reminding you of that. I came in and discussed my options with Dr. Meredith Overstreet, she was very informative about options I had. My tooth had some gnarly roots, but as I leaned back with my mouth stuck open like a large mouthed bass. Dr. Overstreet demonstrated excellent bed side manner,frequently checking on my comfort level and giving reminders that if I was in pain to let her know. Another thing I liked was that she was super nice to her assistant, I don't remember her name but she was also great. There are some awful sounds and smells involved in a root canal, but that's the nature of the beast and she did a great job of taming the beast (explaining sounds, and what to expect with different dental tools) Fortunately the pain didn't feel tortuous like the sounds. The business is Meredith and her husband and I thought it was great that he stopped in to look at my freak show root and give his wife congratulations on getting to the root of the problem. I had a root canal this morning, and from Megan the receptionist, to Gina the dental assistant, to especially Dr. Overstreet herself, I don't believe I could find a more professional, pleasant, and comforting atmosphere to have such a horrible tooth procedure done. It was as pain-free as possible, and Meredith made absolutely certain I wasn't feeling even a pinch of pain as she checked often. She even called the next day to make sure everything was going well (and it was). I was nervous about having a root canal since I never had one before. I was so surprised that I have to tell you what a great experience it was. I had a consultation before my first appointment. Dr. Chheda was kind and very thoroughly explained the process. The front desk took care of my insurance. They were very competent and friendly. Great experience, wonderful caring team, perfect outcome. My #3 tooth hurt for a few days, my dentist referred me to Microendontists. My wife had a great experience with Dr. Sermeno recently so naturally, I requested that she help me too. I, fortunately, had an appointment with Dr. Sermeno within an hour of my request. I loved the emailed link to complete their forms ahead of arrival and impressed by how friendly and helpful everyone at the office was on my arrival. Having had a root canal years ago I was dreading the in-chair experience -- but a lot has changed over the years -- their great technology and highly effective pain medicine was a pleasant surprise. I had a thorough and professional evaluation followed by a pain-free treatment from Dr. Sermeno. I was impressed with how precisely the Dr. went about her work and I was completely at ease, without pain and reassured by her diligence, that resulted in perfect results. Throughout her work, I was kept informed about each step and asked if I was comfortable in a sincerely caring way. In many ways, this visit made me believe a root canal was similar to a simple dental procedure, rather than a highly complex one made to feel flawlessly simple. As painful as having to go to the endodontist may be in theory, you will have an amazingly pleasant experience if you come to South Austin Microendodontics. I first met with Dr. Overstreet and Josh when they worked me in after I had an excruciating night of pain. I already knew I was going to like and respect Dr. Meredith from overhearing her patiently explaining a procedure and options to another patient without any judgement or bias - as in she was presenting the options and giving a recommendation without pressure (as I feel all doctors should.) When we spoke she explained what was happening and actually expressed compassion for my pain!! Giving timing, I had my procedure with Dr. Hom. The procedure was comfortable, even for a non-fan of anything dental related. The whole office is great and clearly very close. They reminded me several times that if I had any questions or pain to just give them a call anytime. Plus they even put Halloween decorations outside the windows! I met with Dr. Karla Sermeño de Castillo who explained the entire procedure in fine detail. My past root canal experiences tell like torture so I was pleased to see such new technology and hear about new procedures. Dr. Sermeño performed the root canal the next morning. The actual procedure was quick and easy and aside from the initial, inevitable injection I was in NO pain. None. Her assistant Melissa was terrific and kept me most comfortable throughout. I went here at the suggestion of a friend/co-worker, although I live North of Travis County. My last root canal at another place had been painful and when told of the pain, the Doctor did not adjust to the complaint. For my current issue, my dentist had referred another endodontics place, who she said was a friend. Well, I rather go with my friend over theirs always. Upon entering Microendodontics, I thought it was very nice and the front staff was welcoming. When I saw the Doctor and his assistant, they made me feel very comfortable. It was easy to talk to both assistants about football and other things. They told me they would take care of me and they did not desire for me to feel pain. On the day of the Root Canal, Dr Hom numbed me thoroughly. When I did feel some slight pain and thought I could just bear it, he told me no. He then told me what he was going to do to alleviate the slight pain and immediately took care of it. The whole experience was amazing. They have the goggles, so you can watch a movie during the procedure. Pretty nice. I am a nosy patient. They showed me the before, in between, after x-rays/pics. Gave me more detail than was necessary, too. If only Dr Hom was a Dentist and not a specialist. I hope I never have to go back, but if I ever need this procedure, it will be South Austin Microendodontics. My friend raved about Dr Overstreet. I guess husband and wife share the same work ethic.
