Recently had a wisdom tooth removed by Dr. Cavaretta and I'm so glad I found him! I'd had a few removed before (a terrible experience) so I was pretty nervous going in. I found Hill Country Oral Surgery on Yelp and Google and decided to give it a try. The office is clean and modern, with comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, and even a mini fridge stocked with water. The entire staff was amazing--from day one they made sure I had all the information I needed, and they were super helpful in checking in after the procedure to make sure I was doing well. Dr. Cavaretta really listened to my concerns, and because I was anxious, we chose to go the anesthesia route. Lizette and George (the day-of care team) were fantastic and made me feel completely at ease throughout. I was in and out quickly and am already anticipating a smooth recovery. Dr. Cavaretta made the removal of my two top wisdom teeth a breeze. With icing and Rx strength Ibuprofen, I experienced no swelling at all and very minor discomfort for the few days following the surgery. I also appreciate that he recommended against removing my bottom wisdom teeth despite general recommendation from my referring dentist, as they are serviceable and not as difficult to care for. The entire process was well explained, care was taken to address my specific case and despite a building pipe burst at the Austin office the morning of surgery, the office was swift to get me in at their Buda office same day. 7 day follow up evaluation was quick and reaffirming that everything was normal. I couldn't possibly recommend any place or doctor more in the Austin area for their oral surgery needs. read more

If I could give Dr Cavaretta more than five stars excellent for the superb implant surgery he did on a lower back molar and an upper front tooth I would. His expertise along with his knowledge and skill were obvious at every stage of the dental implant process. He is personable, professional, and has the kind of interpersonal communication skills that immediately put me at ease at the first consultation and every appointment after that. He explained the procedures in terms I could understand. He listened to my concerns and questions and pleasantly and patiently answered them. During the procedures he explained what would occur and talked with me throughout explaining what he was doing, what I would feel, and continued to ask if I was doing ok. He called in the evening of the day of every procedure to see how I was doing. The next day, the office called to see how I was doing. Dr Cavaretta's surgery assistants are also more than 5 stars excellent. The office staff are efficient and really know their jobs. Making appointments, checking in and out were always quick, efficient and pleasant. The insurance person knows insurance for sure , is super efficient and explained the costs with and without insurance.. with written copies, answered all my questions. All staff do work that's more than five stars excellent. I love the outcomes of the fabulous work Dr Cavaretta has done with my two dental implants. They are perfect! I've recommended him to my friends and acquaintances. I think he's the best oral surgeon and I highly recommend Dr Cavaretta. I'm grateful I was referred to him. read more

Dr. Cavaretta is awesome! He took out my last wisdom tooth that had been bothering me for years (I had 3 out of the 4 removed in my freshman year of college but never went back to my previous dentist) and it was quick and painless. My consultation was easy, informative and they were very attentive. They prescribed me antibiotics to take the day before surgery, some ibuprofen and some norco for the pain afterwards and it was all very seemless. Come the day of surgery, my appointment is on a Friday morning at 9:45am, I get taken back around 9:35am (I showed up early since I was nervous) and they give me pre-surgery routines as well as information about what is going to happen. They gave me a nice warm blanket and some sunglasses to keep the lights out of my face which was quite awesome. The whole ordeal was done by 10:15am so I must say that was pretty quick of them. I was pretty much in and out and awake the whole time, and Dr. Cavaretta was awesome as well as the assistant that helped me in my wisdom tooth removal. I got a call from him that same night from his cell phone to call if anything was needed which I thought was a super great courtesy to his patients. I healed fast over the weekend and came back for my post surgery check up today and everything was great! :) They showed me how to shoot salt water into my hole where food gets trapped and I think that's fun in an odd sort of way. Two years ago, while living in California, I had 3 of my wisdom teeth out. They left the 4th one in because removing it would involve a relatively high risk of nerve damage and permanent numbness, and they figured there was no point in taking that risk if the tooth wasn't hurting me. Fast forward two years and it was hurting me - a LOT. Like the dentist in California, Dr. Cavaretta told me I'd need a coronectomy, i.e., he'd basically cut the top part off the tooth and leave the roots where they were. As I understand it, if you don't move the roots, you're less likely to damage the nerve, but unfortunately, if the roots are still there, they can sometimes get infected or cause pain later on, which would mean I might need another surgery (at the risk of nerve damage and permanent numbness) at some point in the future. Imagine my surprise when Dr. Cavaretta told me that he'd unexpectedly been able to remove the roots during the surgery. Not only did I not get nerve damage, I also don't have to worry about possible future nerve damage. An even better result than the best possible outcome I was expecting! And Dr. Cavaretta was completely friendly and professional throughout the whole thing, including calling me to check in that night. Bonus: I recovered much more quickly from this wisdom-tooth removal than from the one two years ago. That might just be because it was one tooth instead of three, but there was significantly less pain and swelling, and no bruising or off-and-on bleeding like last time. It's not very often that oral surgery makes you feel relief and happiness, but that's what happened with Dr. Cavaretta. read more

Hands down best oral surgeon in Austin! He's punctual, reliable, professional, and amiable. Pros- I had deep socket my months after my procedure and Dr. Perkins and Cavoretta were both there to help me after I called them on their cell phone (which they make available to their patients). Dr. Cavaretta removed my daughter's wisdom teeth in June. He came highly recommended by our pediatric dentist who I trust completely & I read all of the raving reviews here. Neither my daughter or I had anxiety about the surgery. We assumed we were in good hands. The surgery appeared to go well, there were no immediate complications. However, as she recovered, she was unable to open her mouth & had more swelling which lingered longer than normal. My issue with Dr. Cavaretta's care is not about the surgery itself or even that my daughter was one of the unfortunate ones who has complications. It's the care (lack of) that she received post surgery. After just two weeks of recovery, he said that her inability to open her jaw beyond about 24 mm was due to scar tissue. He barely examined her & did no imaging but recommended a second surgery to remove the scar tissue. Since I was uncomfortable moving forward with a second surgery on a child still recovering from the first, he recommended an exercise to force open the jaw. She was instructed to put a stack of tongue depressors in her mouth & keep adding to the stack to force the jaw to open. This was extremely painful for her & completely ineffective. We continued to see Dr. Cavaretta, but surgery & the tongue depressor exercise, along with heat applied to the jaw were the only suggestions. When her jaw function wasn't improving he accused her of not doing the exercises enough. This was hurtful to her because she was trying so hard. It wasn't until the last time we saw him (after several follow ups) that he said anything kind- "I'm sorry this happened to you" & offered an alternative to surgery- Botox injections to the jaw. I decided to seek additional opinions & spoke to our pediatrician, dentist & another oral surgeon. Every single practitioner we saw asked to get a copy of the post op xrays he took post surgery. He took none! They all wanted know how he diagnosed that scar tissue was the cause. I got a referral to a physical therapist that specializes in jaw issues & after two months of PT, she is able to open her jaw within normal range. The muscle way back in her mouth was extremely tight, likely from having her jaw open during surgery. The disc in her jaw may be out of place as well, but the MRI we had done was inconclusive. She still suffers from daily headaches but we are so happy that she is able to open her mouth normally. I am so glad my maternal instinct kicked in & didn't rush into another surgery, since there is still no evidence of scar tissue. The tongue depressor exercise likely made things worse if her disc is out of place. Clearly, Dr. Cavaretta has many happy patients & I don't doubt that he is a capable surgeon. However, if things don't go well, you are on your own. I find it extremely disappointing that surgery was the only option presented to me when there are less invasive (& in our case, more effective) treatments available. I recently spoke to someone in his office & let them know how disappointed I was in the follow up care & said I think it's important that he know my daughter did not have a problem with scar tissue & that she has been able to return to normal range of opening through physical therapy. Haven't heard from him. We are currently waiting for an appointment with l maxillofacial surgeon to determine whether her disc is out of place. read more

Today i had the pleasure of having my wisdom tooth extracted with Dr. Cavaretta and staff and i had a wonderful experience! My initial reaction to Hill Country Oral Surgery office was impressed. The modern, not over the top design was comfortable, very spacious! The staff was so welcoming as well. Prior to my appointment i had talked to Heather regarding my insurance coverage and new patient information sheets. I'm horrible with paperwork and Heather walked me through everything and made the beginning process so easy. When i had my initial consult, Henry, the surgical assistant helped me out. We went to a consult room and he took my blood pressure and made me feel at home. (very important when you're looking into having any type of surgery). I then had my consult with Dr. Cavaretta for my one wisdom tooth i needed taken out. Dr Cavaretta was very informative and made me feel relaxed. Assured me that there are always risks in any surgery, but this is a smooth process and everything would go well. He was right! When i arrived for surgery there was no wait, they got me back immediately and set me up to have the tooth extracted. The sweet nurse, Lindsey took my blood pressure and set up the monitors and prepped for surgery, then Henry came in to assist and not even a minute later Dr. Cavaretta came in and the tooth was out in less than 20-30 minutes! So I am a HUGE pansy when it comes to medical things. I have survived 27 years on this earth without having to get an IV, never encountering a cavity and general good health (besides a few extra pounds). Enter my wisdom teeth. I was referred to Dr. Cavaretta after an unpleasant consult with a separate practice. From day one Dr. Cavaretta listened to my concerns, I have an allergic reaction to Lidocaine and he really made me feel like I was in good hands. No surprises. I even told him I wasn't afraid of the surgery...I was afraid of the IV. I didn't want to go the way of Michael Jackson. He assured me he would not kill me MJ style and to not say that...it's traumatizing! I had my surgery a month later...this past Friday. I have my sister (an OR Nurse) fly in to take care of me and we were in the office 7:15 sharp. I had to change shirts, kinda bummed I put a lot of thought in what comfy shirt I wanted to wear, but was taken back by Heather and put at ease. They got the IV going and it probably wasn't 3 mins before I asked if the lamp was really dancing and then woke up in the recovery room. For pain....I have had ZERO. ZERO PAIN. I had two impacted teeth (one was a real bitch to get out apparently) and one extracted. I was out walking around at The Domain that evening and pretty much eating normally by the next day. I don't know if it was a combination of my sister keeping me nice and medicated and Dr. Cavaretta's awesome skills but this was by far one of the easiest experiences ever. read more

I can't say enough about this practice and the staff. They way over delivered from the first appointment, going above and beyond. I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and had very minor swelling and pain. The staff called several times to check in and made sure I had contact info over the weekend in case of any emergency. When ever doctor seems to not care how long you sit in the waiting room, it's refreshing to see a practice that really does respect your time. Having had the misfortune to suffer from a variety of dental issues over time has left me at the hands of several different oral surgeons and a pronounced apprehension of the dental chair. So when I was referred to Dr. Cavaretta by my dentist, I must admit that did not come to my appointment with an open mind. To my immense relief, Dr. Cavaretta not only repaired some of my more dicey dental problems, but did so without causing discomfort and using a minimum of sedation. He was also very patient in answering what must have been tiresome questions - never once trying rush the visit. Dr. Cavaretta's deft work (and attentive staff) has all but ridded me of my long-held fear of dentists. They are located in a near-oasis of an office building and, unsurprisingly, their offices are exceptionally well-appointed. This guy is awesome!! Very honest. I went in for a consultation, and he recommended that I get my crown replaced rather than doing an implant. WHAT!? Yes he recommended me upstairs to Dr. Kelp for a crown replacement which he said would work out best in my situation. You just don't find that type of honesty nowadays. Got 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Cavaretta last month and I can't be happier! Two of my bottoms were impacted and I've been holding this procedure off for say, over 10 years! Office: Very nice and clean with professional staff- and its Bee Caves so I'd hold them to a higher standard. I really liked Page (?) in the front, she's super sweet and really took the time to talk me through all my nerves and she has a smoothing aura to her; it shows that she truly cares for the patients (even the neurotic-scared-of-everything-dental ones such as myself). Surgery: I arrived around noon, they gave me a nice soft t-shirt to change in to. Once I was taken back they hooked me up to some monitors and also took my blood pressure. I requested for nitrous gas to calm my nerves before I was given an IV as I've never gotten one before. My nurse was super sweet also, always made eye contact to make sure I wasn't too freaked out, followed with many reassuring words. Dr. C came in, gave me the gas, set up the IV, my boyfriend was able to come back and kiss me goodnight, then bam, I woke up in a recovery room with my boyfriend aside me. I don't know if it was still my nerves or something but right when I woke up I felt a little throbbing pain on the right side of my jaw and requested more numbing injections. Looking back, it was probably all in my head since I know I was already given very strong numbing shots during the procedure. But he came nonetheless, gave me more injections on the right side and even ordered an x-ray right away to make sure all was ok- and it was. =) I left the office with two small gauges in the back of my mouth and an ice pack to cool off my cheeks. Recovery: 2 hours after surgery I was home on the couch eating porridge and watching TV. Make sure you eat; don't take the pain meds on an empty stomach. After I ate, I very very gently rinse my mouth with salt water then I put 2 new moisten gauges back over the wound and firmly bit down. About 4 hours later (around 7pm, Friday) when I tried to replace the gauges, there was a small blood clot that came out with one of my gauges. I immediately freaked out thinking I'd get dry socket since a clot was dislodge!! (dramatic, I know) I called the office- it was after hours so the machine gave me an emergency number to call. Dr. Perkins answered and said for me to not use the gauge anymore and I should be fine. He was very nice and kind. 5 minutes later, Dr. C called to check up on me! Not sure if they have some caller ID system at the office or what but he did mention that he would call on the first night to check up. So that was very nice of him and he told me the same thing Dr. P had. For the next week, I just ate very soft foods such as mash potatoes, La Madeline potato soup with soggy bread, ice cream, rice soup with spam- yes spam! I cut it into small pieces after frying it and just swallowed the pieces whole; lots of flavor and no chewing necessary. The following week I came in for a 30min check-up. A nurse showed me how to flush my sockets out with a syringe and then Dr. C came in to check the wounds. Overall: I would say the whole experience was at most, unpleasant. Never did I have excruciating pain, or even moderate pain. For the first 2-3 days I was just very sore, heavy-headed and nauseous. The nausea was mainly due to the pain killers but I was very adamant about taking them so it was a burden I was ready to bear. Some say not to take the pain meds until you feel pain, but common, why would you wait to feel pain!? I just slowly decreased the amount of the pain meds every day but continued to take the Ibuprofen and anti-biotics. Hope my experience helps anyone who's hesitant about getting their wisdom teeth extracted. Being that I'm almost 30 and it was my first time ever having any type of surgery I was very pleasantly surprised. It's so worth it in the long run =) I was also given my extracted teeth!!!!! There's two top teeth and the two bottom teeth split into 4 pieces in a sealed plastic bag; it looks so gnarly! I show it to all my guest. LOL read more

Like the previous reviews, I too was told I needed to have my wisdom teeth extracted and of course, I was a little anxious about this procedure after hearing horror stories for years. However, my anxiety was quickly put to ease when I met Dr. Cavaretta for the pre-op consultation. He informed me I'd be minimally sore, and about a week following surgery I should be feeling great... Well Dr. Cavaretta you are right! My surgery was just over a week ago and I am feeling no pain, have a brighter smile, and am thankful for you and your team! I just went through a long process of fixing two failed implants that were done (by a different Dr.) 20 years ago. I was completely dreading the surgery, but Dr. Cavaretta explained the entire process clearly and even showed me the cool 3d printer they use to guide the surgery. The surgery included the works - gum grafts, two implants, bone grafts and even some gum recession that he fixed while he was at it. I can't fully express how awesome Dr. Cavaretta and his staff were. The surgery was perfect and the process as smooth as possible. My regular dentist even commented on how great it looked. I couldn't have asked for anything better. Dr. Cavaretta and his staff were wonderful. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out in 2010 before they started causing me problems. Before the procedure, they gave me a thorough explanation of the procedure and etc. A couple of my teeth gave him some difficulties, but he got those suckers out. I was prescribed some medicine that I had an allergic reaction to and I called him on Saturday night to get a different prescription to help with the pain. I was referred to Hill Country Oral surgery by my general dentist to have all four wisdom teeth removed. Originally, I assumed this would be a simple procedure and that I might have puffy cheeks for a few days and that would be it. After being educated about the surgical process and learning that i would be under a twilight version of anesthesia, I became super nervous and almost didn't want to have the procedure at all. I had never had any surgeries or procedures in my whole life so I was freaked out in general. Needless to say, Dr. Cavaretta and the entire staff made the whole process super simple and were very good about following up by phone after I went home. The staff and doctors are super professional and are awesome with hearing and caring about their patients concerns and comfort before/during/after the process. I had my wisdom teeth removed about 2 weeks ago, and am almost completely healed with no issues at all! Highly recommend! Dr. Cavaretta recently removed a tooth that had cracked when my 91 year old mom was eating her dinner. She didn't want to get it pulled or as it turned out two more teeth that were loose due to wear and tear. I opted to get all four of my impacted wisdom teeth out and choose Dr. Cavaretta after some careful research. When I went in for my consultation, I was thoroughly impressed, my x-ray, risks and benefits video, discussion and Q&A with Dr. Cavaretta, as well as my insurance benefits explanation took about 45 minutes. He was very patient and calmed my anxiety. When I went in two weeks ago for my extraction, I came in a little early and was actually seated with my surgery team a few minutes prior to my appointment time. Dr. Cavaretta administered the IV, and I was completely relaxed. My entire appointment was about 30 minutes and then I headed home. I wasn't swollen at all, and dozed off and on the entire day. The following day I was moving around and 2 days after I even ate some solid foods.I greatly appreciated my followup call on the following day, about 6PM on a Saturday evening. Three days after, I relied on my Excedrin and Ibuprofen to relieve the pressure. I came in for my followup and I was even more impressed with Dr. Cavaretta's bedside manner and again their timeliness. I was completely pain and pressure free about 11 days after my appointment.
