I love Austin Social Sports Club! I have done the flag football here for about four years and…read moredefinitely like it here the best. With this league you have to wait until five seconds pass until you can rush the quarterback, which actually allows receivers to run downfield and to let the plays develop. Every third play is a gender play, which means both guys and ladies get involved in making the catches. The refs here also do a really good job, so shout out to Austin for making it happen with good calls on the field. It is a bit of a drive out to Del Valle, but the fields there are really nice and it's just a good vibe/environment. My fiancé & I have done several seasons of cornhole at Bouldin Acres, and have had a great time in that league too. We have also done their kickball league in the past which is also fun, and the 4s Sand Volleyball at Moontower is also a blast! Definitely recommend this league and they offer other sports too.

I appreciate ASSC for organizing all of this at all but I do think it could have been better. It…read morekind of feels like they do the bear minimum so I don't feel like this is anything special. And to make things worse I had a really bad experience when I couldn't find my shirt. They wouldn't let me play and didn't offer any alternatives like buying another shirt on site so we had to forfeit the game which really sucked. I understand wearing the shirt is a rule but you have to have a way to work around issues that come up. And honestly it's pretty ridiculous that they only give you one shirt that you have to wear every week.

They are hard core about getting you to a level you never knew existed, yet fun loving and very team spirited at the same time. The coaches are awesome and I feel like I have gained so much from training with them. If you are just a beginner at triathlons or an experienced triathlete, this is a group that embraces people of all levels and goals. There are people of all ages and ranges that train for the sprint, olympic, half ironman, and ironman distances. I started back in April of 2008, with their swim clinic. Yea, I could swim..maybe doggie paddle swim a couple 50 meters or so, but I REALLY didn't know HOW to swim. They taught me how to do it efficiently, with proper technique. 1 year ago I couldn't swim one length of Barton Springs without freaking out or hyperventilating. Swimming was the only thing keeping me from competing in a triathlon...but here I am now training for a half ironman. Yes I knew how to run..yes I had a bike, but really I didn't know how to put all the pieces together. With them, you have coaches to help you, teammates to push you along the way and give you advice, and practices that will kick your ass. Another great thing about the group is that they have a very flexible training schedule that can work for anyone and everyone. They have swim practices everyday (morning, lunchtime, and night), they have spin class 3 times a week at different times, they have track and run practice 3 times a week as well. On weekends there are group long rides and runs. You don't have to be a triathlete to join, many people train in all 3 sports, 2 sports or even just 1 pf the sports. The skies the limit with flexibility. If you are looking for a triathlon group to train with, this is IT. I don't mean to sound like this is some marketing ploy, because it's not. This is the real deal, and I am willing to put the smack down on anyone that chooses to challenge this review, because T3 is absolutely, positively THE shit.

THIS IS A BLAST! So…read moreI was playing in another kickball league here in town (we'll call em WAKA) and it was one of the worst experiences I've had in a social sports community. So when I came to NAKID I was not expecting much different, but was stunned at how different and how much more fun I had! My team is the Awful Waffles which was a team in a different league, we were all so fed up with the competiveness of the other leagues. Where they cuss you out if you make a bad play, make a bad call as a ref, basically have no regard for sportsmanship, and to top it off the league is ran by douchebags. It was so refreshing to come to NAKID, its fun still competitive(in a good way) AWESOME TROPHYS, cute girls for you guys out there, as well as flip cup tournaments every week!!! (AHHH HEAVEN!!) You gotta give it a shot!

There are some business names that scream, "Try Me"! Like "G-spot Thrift Store",…read more "Bite Mi," "Mooseknuckle", or...NAKID Social Sports. Anyone who patronizes those businesses is bound to be the kind of person who doesn't take themselves or life too seriously. So, one star for the concept and creation of Austin's Chapter of NAKID and one star to the fun ppl I met during the 8 weekly showdowns of ball-kicking during the actual game and ass-kicking during the subsequent flip-cup games. The withheld stars speak to the management of the league, to the abundance of fluff in advertising, and lack of information given to players. The owner/mgr actually lives in DC and apparently that chapter does well--proof that actually being available during the games is a real bonus. Instead, he flies down for the first game to welcome everyone, for all of 15 minutes, and for the closing ceremonies of awarding the trophy. In between, he is not attentive during registration nor during the season. For example, Tshirt sizes requested were totally ignored...we got way too many smalls and not nearly enough medium and larges as ordered. We showed up for the first game, and I--a newbie--was dubbed Captain. NO rules, nada. Quickly downloaded the iphone ap. Presto, ready to go. There are other instances, but the most irritating was when he emailed to survey which of two given dates we wanted the playoffs. After the votes were in and the date set, he emailed to tell us that the date was being moved to a date (that didn't work for almost my entire team!) not before mentioned bc some players wanted to attend the UT football game. I'm an Orangeblood, but really....? As it turned out, many of us weren't able to attend the playoffs. Considering that many of the players were non-paying (solicited by NAKID friends so they'd have enough players to form a league), this was a rip-off. The fluff pertains to the amt of free alcohol that turned out to be quite limited. IF you are the reffing team that week, your team gets a $20 tab at Gibsons--not enough for one drink per player if all your players showed up. Our first trip into Gibson's found them surprised at our arrival. Apparently, there was no prior arrangement made and NAKID was assuming that last season's deals were still applicable. We ended up standing around until someone figured out what that arrangement was. by the way, Gibson's was fantastic about all this! The "partying" they advertised amounted to a bus trip for a winery tour, which looked fun for the 8 or so ppl who went. Too bad we weren't told about its impending possibility until too late. INcidentally, all 8 were from one team whose lead player picks up and brings the equipment to the games (an assistant? don't know, was never told--she is super nice though). As for information dissemination, they wanted us to sign up on meetup website, which I did. As a result, I got emails as well as meetup messages, almost none of which were redundant and yet neither one had full details. There was no go-to place for information. For ex, one week we showed up for the game to find no one there except for a few players from some other team (not our scheduled opponents). Apparently the games were moved to another field not in sight of where we were scheduled to play. A stroke of luck --contacting the roommate of one of the players in the know--got us to the correct fields and by the time games started, it was already becoming dark--not good for catching flying balls. IN kickball at least. I am glad to have experienced Gibson's (free, fun Bingo on Thurs nights), Luke's Inside Out (great food trailer), and Flip Cup (my college drinking game--quarters--is outdated). In sum, this league is not "a skid-mark on the underpants of society" (movie, Dodgeball), but I think I'd rather spend my time at Mooseknuckle, in my newly acquired hot pants from G-spot, playing Flip Cup and following it with nibbles at Bite Mi.

If you're planning to do lap swimming after work, for example, it can be very difficult to find a lane because they often schedule classes during that same time. The gym floor also gets very busy in the evenings, although it's generally still manageable. It's nice to have a cafe though, and they have great quesadillas! They also occasionally send out emails about new programs and activities you can sign up for, which is nice, but unfortunately, some of the registration links don't work, and when I've emailed the person sending the updates for more details, I haven't received a response.

There are tons of really nice treadmills, some with a running track that is curved and more rugged like you are running outdoors on a trail. The bikes are great, very updated. I do think the weights machines are outdated and need to be replaced. The TRX area has some classes. They also have several rooms with Pilates reformers, barre classes, as well as yoga, and circuit training. There are fancy stretching machines and massage chairs! Bonus! The sauna and steam room are separate sexes located in the locker rooms for privacy. The showers have good quality hair products and body wash. They even have razors and q-tips as well as cotton wipes. Hair dryers are available too. The pool area is really like a resort it is so nice. Plenty of loungers to relax on and good shade spots. This gym has all the beautiful people haha. Everyone is in like Lulu-lemon and dress to impress. Fun but a little intimidating when you wear old gym closes. They also have pickleball courts and basketball. You can take a pickleball lesson and sign up to play with others when comfortable. Lastly there is a spa and hair salon as well as a food center with high quality ingredients. This place is really really nice. I have never seen a nicer club in my life!

My little athlete has played in various leagues like: I9 Sports, Neighborhood Sports, YMCA Sports…read moreand other individual leagues and we have yet to have an experience as GREAT as this one. Here's the rundown on the organization: It was originally chartered in 1950 and is the FIRST Little League organization in Texas; and it's still THRIVING. The organization is all-volunteer, parent-operated, youth baseball and softball ball program that serves boys and girls ages 5-19 living in Austin, Texas. Chartered both as the South Austin Little League and South Austin PONY League, and operates on four playing fields: Reeder Field (Tee-Ball) Weber Field (Coach Pitch and Up) Wright Field (Coach Pitch and Up) Preston Field (High School Baseball/Regulation-Size Field) Just a side note: the fields are NOT maintained by the City of Austin, but volunteers; those for which are highly dedicated to the organization and spent many of their free hours maintaining the fields. The ONLY complaint I could have is that Reeder Field doesn't seem to get the same care the other fields do, it's hardly mowed short, never lined and there's no dirt in-between bases to give the traditional look like the other fields (I think it would help the kids actually run directly to the bases and know where to stand in the box). As well the signs do not work at this field (or are never operated, its t-ball so score doesn't truly matter). On a personal note: I would love it if they had traditional jersey's with team names like major league ball, rather than the SA symbol; but I believe that might keep costs down and allow for more time spent learning and playing. Ah, but we have been ever fortunate to have a great coach and team; we love this organization and are proud to say we are a part of it! The coaches enjoy it and are actually dedicated to working with the children. If you have a little baseball enthusiast and you're looking for a go-to league where your child WILL learn how to play ball and enjoy it, go sign them up with the South Austin Baseball League. Or if you'd like to donate to a good cause and organization that could always use support please check them out! GO SHARKS!
