Rocky is so sweet, patient, and understanding. He always answered all of my many questions. He has lots of sayings to help you become a better driver that stay with you long after you have had your lesson. He prepares you very well for the driving test but also for driving in many different locations and conditions. I highly recommend Rocky! He is the best! During my son's road test, he was marked down for several issues his instructors never mentioned. He thought he could pass the test by driving exactly as he did during his training drives. This was not the case. We took the feedback from the failed attempt and adjusted accordingly to pass on the next try, but we feel that two instructors were not in tune with the road test requirements. Price and booking sessions were fine. Instructors were friendly and positive, but maybe too positive. read more

We hired South Bay Driving school for both my teen drivers. Our first experience was great and now my son just finished his lessons with Ben and he was absolutely fabulous. My son really enjoyed him. He even saved us. He noticed my son's driving test was scheduled too early. He took the time, along with my approval, to help my son reschedule his appointment. He literally saved the day. He even took him on the Torrance driving course to make him familiar/comfortable with the route (since we live in PV). I can't recommend SBDS enough. two thumbs up! read more

I want to say how wonderful my daughter's experience was driving with her instructor Destiny. After my daughter got her permit, she was extremely anxious and I could only drive with her in parking lots. I paid for 3 (two hour sessions) and was so pleased to have Destiny arrive on time and with a great upbeat attitude. After the first session, my daughter was so much more confident. Some parents only pay for one session, but I paid for the package of 3 because I wanted to ensure my daughter would pass the test. After the second session with Destiny, my daughter was confident in driving the city streets, and asking me to practice with her. We saved the 3rd session for practicing the DMV driving test around the DMV office and other city areas that she would be driving to get to school. Destiny even took my daughter on the 110 freeway for a small stretch so she would get that experience. After all 3 sessions, my daughter is confidently cautious when driving. Destiny reinforced the rules of the road, driving tips, and was very pleasant and personal, my daughter really enjoyed her company, they're like friends. My daughter passed her driver's test with no problem. I had used the South Bay Driving School about 20 years ago, and they were great then and continue to provide great service, with emails, texted appointment times, and a wonderful instructor, Destiny. I booked my driving classes with AJ. That guy had the patience of a saint. I'm normally a nervous person but he made driving feel natural to me. He gave a ton of helpful advice that I'll remember always. For my DMV test I booked it with Oscar. That guy was an awful instructor. I was waiting 15 minutes past the time he was supposed to be here wondering where he was. No one called or texted me. No one knocked on my door. Eventually my mom said there was a car that looked like it was from a driving school car parked halfway down the street. I walk over and ask him if he's Oscar. He's just sitting there on his phone wasting the time and money that I booked. We practiced for an hour before my DMV test. Oscar spent a lot of time listening to music on the radio, looking at his phone, and giving unhelpful advice. He got agitated over the smallest thing and sent my anxiety through the roof. When we got to the DMV for my appointment, he laughed and sarcastically told me good luck telling me I could always book more sessions. As soon as he was out of the car and the driving test started, all the anxiety I had lifted over me. I just remembered all the driving lessons I had with AJ. SAFETY and PRIVACY concerns The driver had three back-to-back students which overlapped from each other's time. My wife was picked up at our place with another student (as the driver) inside the car then she had to drop off the previous student at her place and the cycle continued with the third student who was picked up at his place and he had to drop off my wife at our place. The safety issue there was "a student driver driving a previous student to her/his place". We paid a price to have peace of mind and to have my wife taught professionally and safely but it was not met. Moving forward with privacy concerns, we are not happy with the fact a stranger knows where we live if those parents of the teens that my wife rode with that day knew this whole situation, I don't think they will be happy too with this fact. Despite being advised that they had a no back-to-back policy since 2018, this incident occurred. Anyone who wants to learn to drive stick should definitely come here. I have never sat in the driver's seat of a manual transmission vehicle in my life, and in two hours I was driving through the busy streets of Torrance, including up hills. I'm finding surprise in the negative reviews. I received full disclosure on the process of driving one student home after the next lesson starts. I also found the customer service individuals to be great every time I called in. They were polite and seemed to have appointments around the days/times that I needed. They also called me before appointments as a reminder. My daughter drove with two different individuals and enjoyed her time with each. I have another daughter who is 14 and I will not hesitate to utilize South Bay Driving School again when the time is right. My eldest passed her drivers test on the first try and reported that she felt confident based on her driving school experience and how SBDS prepared her. read more

This is the best driving school around! I had a 2 hour stick shift lesson with Ali and I could immediately tell the guy knew exactly what he was doing. I often get anxiety when I see that my instructor is getting frustrated, but that was not the case here. This day was difficult for me because I haven't driven for more than a year due to my recovery from two brain surgeries for an aneurysm and brain tumor that I had performed in Germany away from Wrestling age-group wrestling Worlds in Bulgaria (I was Med-evacuated to Frankfurt once the aneurysm and brain tumor were found). If I could give this place a negative star rating I would. Absolutely callous attitude and careless owner who assumes and cancels appointments. When I purchased the drivers training I called to find out the process of scheduling the appointment as I wanted to ensure my child has the permit in hand. She convinced me that it was best to book it as soon as possible because spots are filling up. When my son didn't pass the first time, I called letting them know that we may have to reschedule as their request is that the student have the permit for at least a week prior to the first training. She told me that it's fine as long as he has his permit and I didn't need to cancel. With that in mind, I ensured that when the 8 day waiting period was up I would take my child to retake the written test and get the required permit. When I messaged in to confirm this I was told the appointment was canceled because they assumed that he wouldn't have it. Who just assumes and cancels without the customer calling in to do so? They charge $50 for cancellation and even if the instructor received a cancellation, $50 for 2 hours is still a good hourly pay, yet that wasn't even afforded because they assumed. It's like a doctors appt or any other appt being canceled because they just assumed that a patient or customer doesn't show up. She's absolutely unprofessional and likes to talk over customers while they speak. read more
