This company was trimming trees on my street when my wife drove through the flagged area. As the flagger from the tree service waved her on, she ran over some debris and popped her tire almost instantly. After calling them a c explaining what happened they asked me to show proof... the proof was the flat tire and the bill for a new one, but that was t enough for this company to reimburse me for my tire. Jorge and his crew have been to our property a number of times for tree work. Several months ago, after finishing up at our place, I walked over with him to introduce him to a neighbor who was thinking about removing a couple of dead/unwanted trees. Our neighbor decided to use South Bay. A couple weeks later they took down our neighbors trees without incident. Unfortunately, on their way out they turned around in my driveway, knocking down my mailbox in the process! They said they would either repair the mailbox, or pay for repairs. Despite several follow up phone calls I didn't hear back from South Bay, which was disappointing. Awhile after I had written off the mailbox I got a call from Jorge. He was going to be working in the area and offered to come by and take down a broken branch that was too high for me to reach, at no charge. These guys probably know how to get tress chopped down (who doesn't when you use a chainsaw), but are unprofessional, unpersonable, discourteous and underinsured. They have been at my apartment complex for a week to just remove four overgrown bushes, I have never seen anything this slow. We have overgrown bushes removed every few years so we know the process well. This is the only company that has been out here in the past 30 years that didn't bring a dump truck to load the branches as they were being chipped. No other company needed to use any of our parking spaces and no other company got in our way. These guys banged on our door early in the morning, we work nights and this started us, thinking that there was a fire or other emergency. No, they just wanted us to move our cars for tear convenience. My wife had thrown on a robe and ran to the door faster than I could get there so while I was struggling to try to get my pants on quickly, I could hear the guy harassing her to move her car so they could conveniently throw their braces into out private carport spaces. She politely told them that we had just picked up the car from the body shop yesterday, where it had been repainted completely and the paint was still fresh so we did not want to risk damage by parking on the street, he told het that if she left it that he could throw branches at it and damage the car. He had no idea that I was standing behind the door listened to him, while trying to get my pants on while half asleep. She asked him why they didn't give us advance notice and politely ask us to make space for them (which actually isn't necessary, no other company in 30 years has needed to take up and block half the parking lot for just a chipper truck. Their excuse is that they "don't plan anything" on any given day they don't know where they will be the next day. To me this means that this company has poor planning, which I find unprofessional. Of course they have been here for a week so to say that they didn't know they would be here more than one day means that they are so unprofessional or inexperienced that they could not estimate that a one week job would take more than one day. Regardless, even if they only needed the space for one day, they could have come the previous week, and asked us politely to make space for them, just like the plumber and roofer have done. Naturally if they had given us advanced notice, like the other contractors do, we could have just stayed at a hotel (at their expense) for a week because we have barely gotten any sleep for the past week, with all their tree cutting tools and a truck mounted chipper waking us up every few minutes. They have been parking their chipper truck on the street overnight, in front of our place, using spaces that my neighbors need to use everyday, which of course is illegal in my city to park commercial vehicles on the street overnight. They Blocked the driveway, blocked the walkway, gave no notice, made extremely loud noise every day for hours while we were asleep, was rude when telling us to move our cars so they don't damage them when they throw the branches into our parking space. Definitely does not train their employees nor do they plan ahead of time, is this the kind of company that you want to hire? Their company name does not match the name on the their truck. Make sure that yo check them out carefully and check their license as well as her bond before you even consider these guys. I found online that their bond is only for $12,500 which is a pitifully tiny amount. One mistake when cutting our tree down could easily crush four cars (we park in groups of four here) which could result in totaling up to $160,000 with of cars. Somehow I think that these guys are extremely underinsured and that is frightening to me. I had a tree removed in the front lawn and Jorge and his crew did a fantastic job. They were careful to advise me to check with the city on pipelines under the lawn. Jorge had to come back twice because the city took a while to get the markings done. I would recommend Jorge to anyone. We had them trim trees that had become overgrown. Overall they did a good job shortening and pretty good of shaping the trees. The height is what we wanted and the trees look better. Although they did a pretty good job cleaning up, I was a disappointed in the work in a several areas due to the use of a blower. While I understand the reason for the blower, I later found some of the debris was blown into areas below some bushes, rather than picked up and debris was blown into our neighbor's yard and landscaping which is not acceptable to me.
