It was located adjacent to Carl Fisher's Nautilus hotel. Today you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue. "The Polo Player" statue was built in 1923 and is still a prominent figure at Polo Park, Miami Beach. This park is one of the oldest in Miami Beach. The land was part of the Flamingo Golf Course, which was built in 1921 for Carl Fisher's hotel. The Northern end of the park was a polo field. A hurricane destroyed the golf course in 1926. The city of Miami Beach purchased the land in 1929. The park was used for boxing matches. An open air theater was built in the park in 1932. The theater was later demolished.

When you enter the park you are still greeted by a reminder from that bygone era by the polo player statue created in 1923 but today you are more likely to find pickleball than polo. In addition to the the pickleball courts in this spacious 4.6 acre park, Polo Park also has tennis courts, a USE fitness station, basketball courts, a softball field, open field area, walking path, and a shade covered playground for ages 2-5 and 5-12. The playground is fenced in for safety and has poured-in-place rubber surfacing, spring rider, twirl around, and swings. I came during one of South Florida's frequent rainstorms so I had the park to myself except for a gentleman walking around the perimeter for exercise. When the weather is nicer I can easily envision this park filled with fitness enthusiasts. pickle ball players, and kids enjoying the playground.

The pool is lovely and well-maintained. You can swim laps, paddle around, or take swimming lessons at different times of the day. I tried to use the pool a couple of times during the day but wasn't able to because it was either mysteriously closed or had no public access - swim lessons were being given. The changing rooms are a bit... Spartan and rustic - nothing but a few benches in a concrete box. Do not go by the hours listed online. You have to physically go to the pool and look at the noticed posted at the pool entrance. (see photo) The price online is also wrong. The fact that it is late June and the Recreation Center sill has a lit Christmas tree in the lobby lets you know that oversight and management is nearly non-existent. If they don't have the leadership to pack a Christmas tree in a box, then certainly don't expect the website to show current information.

I was worried they wouldn't take credit cards since it's such a low fee, but they do. The pool didn't feel like a typical 25 yard length, so I asked the lifeguard and he says it's a 33 meter pool. Bear in mind as you plan your workout. Pool has five or six lanes and is flanked by bleachers and some very basic changing room/shower facilities. Lap swim hours (pictured) are pretty extensive Monday through Friday. Less so Saturday and Sunday but still workable. I came in the middle of a work day and had a lane to myself.

KID FUN Sometimes…read moreyou just need a park and this is the place. It's very safe. Part of the security includes a Miami police car sitting about 200 feet away from the park. I'm assuming that there is an officer in there but with the dark tinted windows it could just be a facade to make people feel safe. The park is inside the gated island community. Luckily we were visiting someone on the island, so we had access but apparently the park is a public park so I really didn't need a visitors pass to get pass the security guard. All of this security is put in place to make the rich island folk feel secure. This is a great place for the kids to run free under a shaded canopy. I often wonder why all parks don't have a sun screen to protect the kids from sun burns. In fact, this is the first park I've ever seen like this and I've got nine years of kids parks under my belt. The best part is that you will not find a crowd here which is good and bad. Good because you won't have to worry about kids pushing your kid off the climbing wall but bad because they won't have anyone to play with. There's two swings, one infant swing, one handicap swing, a climbing wall, monkey bars, five slides and a bunch of climbing stuff. So let the kids have a fun time. The area is also fully padded with the black rubberized ground so there shouldn't be any severe injuries. There is some tennis courts, a basketball court and two hand ball courts. There's also a great picnic table on the water so pack some lunch and enjoy the day.

Most people don't realize this park is a public park belonging to the city of Miami Beach and therefore everyone is welcome! Park has three tennis courts, basketball courts, double wall tennis court and a lovely children's playground. On occasions you'll see a kids soccer team assemble and utilize the side grass open area. Boot-camp enthusiast have also been taking advantage of the cute park. Surrounded by amazing high-end real estate and a mesmerizing view to the bridges with the bay flowing beneath and all around, adds a serene and peaceful atmosphere. I did not give it five stars because it could have more features and activities, but over all for its size and location its great. Come and enjoy this million dollar park today!
