I was working in a building that was a 5-minute walk from this South Block location, and wound up coming here several times over the course of 2 weeks. The bowls are delicious and really addictive! I loved the evolution bowl and the PB&J bowl. The açaí bowls usually took longer to come out than the evolution bowl, probably since the açaí is frozen and is harder to blend to the right consistency. The wait time tends to be longer during the morning and lunch rush hour, so I would recommend ordering online if you want it to be ready when you arrive. In addition, if you sign up online, you occasionally get $2 off coupons (I got one just a few days after I signed up, which was a nice surprise). Note that you have to order in-person to use the coupon code. There's free chia seeds, honey, and agave syrup that you can add to the bowls at will. In addition to the bowls, they sell smoothies and snacks (e.g. cookies, protein bars/balls, etc.). The store is small but charming; there's a bit of seating, but it's mostly a take-out place. All the staff I encountered were friendly, and they seemed to be pretty efficient, especially when the store got crowded. I found the bowls to be filling; I think the $11-$13 price tag seems steep at first, but since it's about 600 calories a bowl, these really are meals and not snacks, and $11-$13 for a meal isn't unusual in the DC metro area. The ingredients always looked and tasted fresh. I never had any issue with the size of the smoothie bowls, but for some reason, a couple times, my friend came out with bowls that didn't look filled up all the way, which isn't ideal for the price. I love this place for açaí bowls, and I go after a workout if I've been particularly tired. This place has juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, along with a variety of other health conscious options. The thing I like about this place is its convenience - people mostly get their food within about 10 minutes, and if you want to skip a line, you can order on the app and pay with your app. Additionally, this place is cash-less as of 4/5/18, so be sure to bring a credit card! As for the açaí bowls, the warrior one is my favorite. Their granola is BOMB. Each one costs about $10-11, and I would say overall the menu ranges from $8-15. I've been to South Block at multiple locations, and I've always been a fan of their smoothies and açaí bowls. Not only do they allow you to modify preset menu combos, but they also let you make your own bowl if you choose. This time I tried a "not açaí bowl" which has a blended fruit base other than açaí. I got the Magic Dragon Bowl with a pitaya, coconut water, agave, mango, and strawberry base, which had granola, gogi berries, coconut and strawberries on top. It was just the right ratio of toppings to base, and I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my order was prepared. I definitely want to come back to try another new item next time. If I return at some point, I am tempted to ask them if the bananas are regular chiquita bananas, or organic ones. Want to make sure they are not cutting any corners. Wouldn't be able to tell you the difference between handmade granola and machine made granola. Could you tell the difference? I'm guessing not. The PBJ Bowl was pretty good, but would have liked a little more peanut butter in it. I tasted more of the blueberries and bananas. If you're looking for a quick, healthy breakfast, lunch, or snack on the go, this place hits the spot with acai bowls, smoothie bowls, and smoothies. It's a nice way to get more fruits and veggies in, while feeling like you're eating ice cream or dessert for your meal. They are a bit expensive at around $11, but the serving size is pretty big, they use quality ingredients, the flavor combos are done well, and it would probably cost you at least half the cost to make it at home by yourself. I had the Evolution Bowl ($11) which is my new favorite bowl here, and has almond milk, avocado, spinach, banana, peanut butter, maca, spirulina, and topped with a superfood mix (flax seeds, goji berries, coconut, etc), and strawberries and honey. This combination has slightly less sugar than the acai bowls, and is every bit as delicious, if not more. They don't have a ton of seats inside or outside, and it can be really loud with the blender going off every so it's probably not the best place to come and read or work, or for a date. I've been to the other location in Arlington / Falls Church, and that location has more seating inside and outside. By the way, on the counter right by the napkins, spoons, and agave nectar they have a squeeze bottle full of chia seeds. Yes, you can add as many chia seeds as your little heart desires. One day while he was working I found myself craving a good green juice. A quick Yelp search pointed me towards South Block. I ordered a SoCal Breakfast Wrap and decided to order a mini juice, as everything was a little pricey. The wrap was huge so I ended up being glad I went with the smaller juice size. I wouldn't have been able to finish it all otherwise. It's expensive but you get what you pay for. I've been to similar shops with similar prices where the food you get is half the size South Block gives. The wrap was super tasty with egg whites, spinach, avocado, cheddar, spinach and tomato (I opted out of the chipotle sauce). Very filling. I was very impressed with the juice. I ordered a Detox juice. I've had similar juices from similar juice bars and, generally, detox juices are very vegetable-y. Not necessarily the best tasting juices, but you don't really drink them for that. You drink them for the nutrition. I expected the same here but was pleasantly surprised. South Block's Detox juice is sweet and very drinkable. Even beginner juicers will be OK with this one. 10/10 would order again. My favorite bowl is the Caveman with peanut butter topping but frankly you can't go wrong with any bowl. The breakfast wraps are also good, unfortunately, I am not a fan of the avocado toast as the bread was far from toasted and the avocado mix wasn't that great either. I'd give it 3.6 if I could. Ordered online (bonus) for lunch and picked up three acai bowls to go since we were busy and didn't have time to eat there. Food was ready earlier than expected and o received txt msgs with updates as they were making it. I wanted to love this place and the acai bowls; Ive had stuff from here before and I really enjoyed their smoothies... but the acai bowl just didn't hit the mark for me. I got the pbandj and was disappointed by the lack of peanut butter and no jelly (although the ingredients don't list it... I just expected something jelly like with a name like PB&J) the peanut butter was almost non existent :( and it's definitely one of my favorite parts. I've had PB&J and other acai bowl places and have been absolutely blown away... this place just left me wanting more. I even added my own peanut butter and dark chocolate granola and it defiantly kicked up my bowl a notch and gave me the peanut butter fix I was craving. My wife got the evolution bowl and she said it was ok; she too was disappointed we didn't drive to our usual place in Fairfax; but south block was closer. As you already know... parking anywhere near Arlington can be an adventure in and upon itself; south block is no different but with the added perk of online ordering and two people; I was able to run in and grab the bowls while she waited in the car. There are about 4 tables, 1 bathroom, and a ton of cool decorations. They offer a wide variety of smoothies as well as bowls. I've only tried the smoothies--my favorite is the Tropi-kale (they have punny names too!), but I bet they're all good. They have a small and a large option. If you're not a smoothie drinker, I'd do the small as it's pretty big already. Prices are pretty high (around $8 for a small one) but a nice treat every once in awhile! After living in the Bay Area for almost a year, it's not surprising that I started craving good acai bowls once I moved to DC. After months of searching, South Block is the one place that I will go back to time and time again for their impeccable acai bowls. First off (and probably most importantly), the flavor of all of their bowls are amazing. I've loved every single bowl that I've tried - Warrior, Magic Dragon, El Gordo, PBJ... they all tasste great and are made with the freshest ingredients. They are also super flexible with the ingredients here. I love mangoes, and I also love the fruitiness of the Warrior bowl, so I thought that the Warrior bowl would be brought to new heights if it were made with mango. I asked to switch out the banana with mango, and the workers at South Block made the change seamlessly. Also adore the free toppings for your bowls - honey, agave, and chia - that you can add as much as you would like. Price is decent (~$10 each) for the amount of acai and fresh fruit that you get with each bowl. The most worth-your-money item on the menu would be the giant bowls, in which you get double the acai for $12.95... it's a ginormous amount though. Be warned. Only downside to South Block is the lines, especially on weekends. I've had to wait as long as 30 minutes but also sometimes as little as 5 minutes when it's not busy. Everything is made to order though, hence the longer wait times (but I do solemnly believe that the wait is worth it). The quality and the variety is unmatched. I recently had some fresh wheatgrass shots made from scratch, it's so delicious, natural and packed with benefits. It took them a little bit longer than expected to make it but worth the wait. If I'm in Clarendon for any reason, i make sure to stop by here to give my body the good stuff it derserves! They even have pre-made fresh juices in the cooler. I want to try them all. I try to get different juices everytime i come here. South Block Smoothie is ok. The thing is I've been a patron here for quite a while now. I seen the ups and downs,the good the bad,the improvements. Last time I was here a small smoothie and a breakfast wrap set me back 18 bucks. I was like WTF?! Having been a patron here for quite a long time I kind of have an idea on the prices. I have my favorites memorized. One of the chick's that works works here always has an attitude. I'm talking rolls her eyes and everything. Nor have I ever been rude to their staff. Rulen of thumb always be nice to the person handling your food. Also when questioned about certain items on the menu the staff has a kind of dazed and confused luck and has no idea about them. Quite a few times I have been overcharged on a smoothie. Although it's just a dollar or a $1.50 to up upgrade a small smoothie to a large,I asked for a small. This I do not appreciate. The last time I went here my breakfast order was wrong. I ordered an egg and cheese wrap I ended up with a Burrito wrap. To my horror I thought I'd picked up the wrong bag. Honest to God,for a hot second I felt like a burrito bandit. Then when I got home I realized on my receipt they had written "burrito wrap." Not believing in wasting food, I settled for it. Unfortunately that was a day when I should not have had any spicy food. Another time I was also charged for a complete strangers item. I understand this happens when a restaurant get packed. Also when I'm here for some reason they always seem to be out of wheatgrass. Maybe it's just my bum luck? My only advice is : a lot of things on South Blocks menu are pretty good. I've been kinda obsessed with acai bowls lately because (i) they are delicious, (ii) they are delicious (III) they are light but filling if you add protein and (iv) it allows me to try to fit in a vegan meal to fist pump the environment. This acai bowl was amazing because even after adding both kale and spinach and vegan protein, I still only tasted the berry flavor of the acai! They do have whey too if you want that option. The blueberry topping was so freakin fresh I swear they must have been picked by hand from someone in Maine that morning. I also love the extra chia seeds you can add for free! This is the place you'll find all of Arlington at on a Saturday after a morning work out. Seriously...everyone there (including myself) was in gym attire. I'll wake up early to work out, but I'm way too lazy to whip up something as easy as an Acai Bowl..so I'll head over to South Block Co and pay them $8-9 to make one for me. But at least they do it right! Deliciousssss and makes you feel super proud of yourself for being healthy. I ordered the California Bowl and it was so good. I added shredded coconut and chia seeds to it. Chia seeds are free and available in a shaker by the pick up area. I love the variety of toppings they have that can be added to your bowl (most for an additional charge of course). The portion size was good - it may look small, but don't worry...it's plentyyy. I also love how extensive their menu is. They offer juices (café next door is specifically for juice as well), smoothies, acai bowls, sandwiches, etc. Everything sounded amazing! The one downfall is the size of the place. It's not really a spot to sit and eat. There's limited seating inside and even with those seats available...you'll be surrounded by people waiting in line or for their order to be ready. They do have a few tables outside though, which is perfect on a nice day! I work out in Alexandria on the weekends, so this will definitely be a regular stop for me afterwards! I think we set really high standards for this place because we tried the fresh juices about a year ago at Clarendon Day festival and it was amazing. It was bordering processed chicken texture, too. Since we asked for the chipotle on the side, it was pretty bland. The sauce is definitely a mayo though. No gracias. Mediterranean morning panini: I'd say this was 85% lukewarm panini with a shaped egg white patty and 1/3 of a tomato and tsp of pesto... That I didn't really taste over all the bread.. Egg white patties freak me out, too. Come on guys, you're not a chain, don't try to MAKE your food look processed (wait... Is it? I don't even know, the egg whites were perfectly circular). Also, when I hear panini, I always think of grill marks, slightly crispy and burnt on the edges. This was definitely not that, even a little soggy... Americano: the coffee wasn't impressive, seemed a bit more watery than the average Americano. (Maybe that's why I prefer Latinos....picante..! Jkjk!) Chai tea latte: meh. I'm too picky about these. It was a little bland in my opinion--I like it spicier (see above). And a little too sweet... And a little too milky. And not enough frothiness. Avocado Butter: too many things wrong. We asked if there was added sugar (I called in and didn't have the menu in front of me) and even asked for the ingredients, and they didn't list agave. When we got it, my boyfriend added honey.... Only to see on the menu that they already added agave to it... So then it was super sweet. It was very poorly blended...very hard to drink because banana kept getting stuck in the straw. If you're looking for a super think shake-like consistency, this is it. Otherwise no thanks. Adzuki bean chips: I did get a box of these though and they were pretty great. I ate all of them in like 2 minutes. So my overall impression: "healthy" isn't exactly how I would describe the café; between the tons of agave and mayo and white carbs... Shady. They definitely use natural ingredients, but don't expect to be coming here on a low cal diet. (Well I guess unless you're getting the juice) Coming back for the juice for sure, but.... I'll have to really think again about eating here or getting the smoothies/hot drinks. read more

Awesome local juice bar and acai bowls! I tried my first acai bowl here and loved it - so many fruits and toppings. It takes a little while for it to be prepared especially since there's always a lot of people here, but it's worth it! I would recommend the warrior bowl. I most recently tried the dragon bowl with pitaya (dragonfruit), peach juice, strawberries, and mangos and topped with granola, goji berries, coconut chips. There's also a bottle of chia seeds you can add on top of your bowl. They also sell bakeshop baked goods, which is another awesome local spot. read more
