Lemon Ricotta pancakes with fresh fruit
    karen k.

Very disappointed in this last visit. See the picture of the lemon ricotta pancakes. Advertised as fluffy, 1/8" is fluffy? Seamed more like a crepe than a pancake. And the fresh fruit was about 1/2 of one strawberry. Served with about 2 TBSP of lemon curd melted on top. Portion was for a dieting middle aged woman. If you go get the LemonCello French toast. Much nicer flavor, portion and served with sauce. Kevin our server was excellent as was the atmosphere, and coffee thus the 3 star.

So so good. Can I tell you I LOVED our server. She was funny, personable and great to meet! Food was excellent! Omelettes are HUGE! My daughter was licking her fingers after the funfetti pancake. Homefries were well seasoned and sooo good. Coffee was delicious!

We stopped into HomeGrown on King Street for breakfast while visiting Alexandria. First impressions were very positive--the restaurant is clean, modern, and has a welcoming atmosphere. The staff was friendly, and the menu had several items that sounded interesting. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the setting. I ordered the biscuits and gravy, which came with eggs and breakfast potatoes. The meal itself was good, and I liked that the eggs were included since that's not always the case with biscuits and gravy. I also ordered a Bloody Mary that was advertised on the menu as being garnished with bacon, celery and a pickle spear. When it arrived, there was no bacon, celery or pickle spear, and I was told they were out. Not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to know before ordering. The biggest issue was service timing. There were four of us dining together, and three meals arrived while the fourth entrée didn't show up for about ten more minutes. Since nobody wanted to eat while one person sat without food, our meals cooled off while we waited. Ironically, the delayed meal was a BLT--which did have bacon on it and even a pickle spear.... I finished my first Bloody Mary and ordered a second. After waiting 15-20 minutes with no drink arriving, our check was brought to the table and I ended up canceling it. My wife's meal was the biggest disappointment. It was served with corn chips that were extremely stale, which really hurt the overall dish. HomeGrown has a lot of potential. The atmosphere is great, the staff was pleasant, and parts of the meal were enjoyable. However, between the service delays, missing menu items, stale chips, and drink issues, there is definitely room for improvement.

First off I want to say the staff here were phenomenal. We were greeted so kindly and sat at a table immediately. Our server was so sweet and accommodating. I would give them 5 on friendly staff. The not so great part...three of us got our food and we ended up waiting almost ten more minutes for the fourth meal to come out. Normal etiquette calls for you to wait eating until everyone has their food. So needless to say meals weren't as hot as we would have liked. Luckily the meal we waited for looked amazing and was enjoyed. I ordered the Chilaquiles because I had been in the mood for nachos but wanted the breakfast twist. I wasn't impressed. The chips were stale and there just wasn't much flavor. I really don't recommend them. Others in the group had biscuits and gravy (decent), eggs Benedict (pretty good) and the BLT (this is the one we waited for and it was good). Maybe it was on off day, maybe it was the norm. I'm sure we won't be coming back again during our stay in Alexandria. This restaurant is attached to a hotel so that is convenient and there is an adorable courtyard to sit and eat as well.

We visited for breakfast on a Sunday. We were able to find street parking half a block away and were seated with just a ten minute wait. I was surprised with how loud it was inside. It was hard to hear the people at my own table because of all the noise from guests and the kitchen. The pancakes were good, and so were the English muffins with the fresh jam. We found the scrambled eggs to be way too runny, and we wished they said on the menu that the Rosemary potatoes came with red peppers so we could have ordered them without. Overall, it was a nice place to try, but not sure if it was worth the money.

Absolutely amazing! I'm sorry I slept on this so long and am so happy I tried it! This is a perfect brunch spot. They have an online waitlist you can join - just remember to check in with the host upon arrival. Ambiance is cute and homey, while still modern. The online waitlist said 20-40 minutes and the couple that walked in right before me was quoted 90 minutes. I took a seat at the bar while I waited for a friend that was on their way. The bar menu is totally reasonable for the area and their fresh pressed OJ elevates each drink prepared. The friendly bar staff made the experience great while I waited for my friend to arrive. The tab was transferred easily to the table and we perused the menu. The server was incredible and recommended the pistachio French toast. While 97% of the time I choose a savory breakfast, I decided to give it a try. I AM STILL THINKING ABOUT THIS - it was incredible. Amazing pairing with the tart cherry compote and over easy savory egg. While we dined, the power went out! No biggie, we were eating and having a good time. Despite this, everyone was given a card to come back for a free entree! How kind is that!? I was going to go back, but will even sooner now for the French toast. Yummy!!

Pistachio & Cherry French Toast and Turkey Sausage Patties

Food: 4/5. I had pistachio and cherry French toast (which is seasonal) and turkey sausage. It was good, but it had a tiny almond extract aftertaste that I didn't like but it was still good! I do wish I had two slices of French toast but I realized they gave me one slice because the order was supposed to come with eggs but I did not want it. Turkey sausage was good. Service: 4/5. Bar seating service was great! Our waitress was great and knowledgeable about the drinks. Ambiance: 3/5. Came on a Sunday and sat at the bar because it was a 45 min wait. Bar seating was great if your goal is to get a quick bite and leave. Like the vibe here that everything is freshly made or "home grown" lol I wish the parking was better and wish I could've got booth seating without having to wait almost an hour. Overall I give it a 4/5. I would come back and try something else.

Wonderful breakfast spot in the area. Came on a Sunday morning and it was pretty busy. I recommend joining the wait list ahead of time. Food was delicious! I especially loved their home made jam with the warm english muffin. Staff was super sweet and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Had a great experience at homegrown. The reviews did not disappoint. The drinks were delicious and the food was great. Staff was kind and place was clean. Big highlights were the fresh jam they serve with certain plates and the unique hot sauce they had, looked local. Got a plate with eggs, turkey, and french toast. All was great, would suggest.

My mom and I tried Homegrown for brunch while I was back home to visit, and we were really happy with our experience. Neither of us had been before, but the food was a 10/10. She ordered the eggs Benedict with blueberry pancakes, and I had the sweet potato pancakes with eggs and turkey sausage everything was hitting let me tell you. I also tried their homemade pop tart and I've tried similar but this was at the top of my list from what I've had already. The service was just as impressive. Our server was attentive, quick, and on top of everything, even though it was very busy. We felt well taken care of the entire time and didn't feel like we had to pull teeth for anything. Overall, I don't have any complaints and will definitely be back on future visits. Highly recommend

What a pleasant surprise this restaurant was to our group. We experienced a few hiccups but the check-in lady was really nice and our server Jamicka was outstanding! Go early because they ran out of cheesy grits. If you go, order the Meatloaf, you will not regret it. Everything was fresh and comforting but not heavy. #HappyEating

Easily a 10/10 for that category. What really stood out to me was the variety of flavors. I tried the strawberry matcha cookie and was honestly surprised by how much I liked it. It had a really nice balance of flavors and didn't feel gimmicky at all. It's always a risk trying something a little different, but this one definitely paid off. Another thing I appreciated was that they had a section of cookies discounted because they were made the night before. I love when places do this...it's a great way to try more flavors without spending a lot, and honestly, the cookies were still really good. Service-wise, the cashier was super helpful and patient, especially when it came to explaining flavors and giving recommendations.
