I do not like giving negative reviews, so I've been hesitant to give a review on this one. But I was having a rough day and was really looking forward to a massage as my regular therapist was booked I decided to try a new place. I communicated that it was rough day and that I preferred not to talk and yet was talked to. Even though I would say things like, "I don't feel like talking about it." or give a one word answers top get my point across it did not seem to help. If you are massaging someone who basically wants to decompress and get a thorough massage (and not a rub down with a therapy session) then they should get that. Also, the rooms are not sound proof, so you can hear what is going on in other rooms or the hallway. That made it difficult to relax as well. And the awkwardness of it all was they asked me how I felt afterwards and I wanted to say, "not much better," but they were running my card and I was filling in the tip amount - as they hovered and watched - so I just said it was nice. I was already feeling miserable, I didn't want to perpetuate it. Obviously not every therapist on this team behaves this way, but I'll be booking ahead of time with my regular therapist to ensure I don't go through something like that again. read more

First of all, know that I am a bodyworker myself, so I have super high standards for therapists. It takes a lot to impress me. I've seen Paul twice now, and he's fantastic! He knows far more than just massage, working with my structural issues as well as deep muscle work. I love that he's not afraid to go after the tight bits like many therapists. Vida Luna! I'm soo excited about Luna moving to this very wonderful location! This small space has such a comfortable feel to it. First off I've been seeing Luna for a little over a year now and she is my savor. She really understands what your body is asking for. I always leave feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. I have a lot of back issues due to a hardcore life style and need someone that understands the strange knots aches and pains I somehow acquire. Somehow Luna gets it, and I'm sooo thankful for that! Last time I saw her she did cupping on me and WOW! If you have never done this you don't know what your missing out on. It is such a wonderful release. I have been thinking of this review for a couple days now. I really don't like writing negative reviews, and at first I was going to let it go, but it's really been bothering me. My friend and I were visiting Austin from Southern California and decided to get massages. We visited South Congress Massage on 2/12/18, as it was the one closest to our hotel. I wasn't sure of what my friend's massage was until after we left and then we discussed it. I would not even call it a massage. I have no idea on how to describe it. I told the masseuse I wanted deep tissue and to focus on my shoulders and neck, but didn't want really deep pressure. I've had multiple massages in the past. I get them quite often, actually. This was NOT even close to even being a Swedish Massage. There was no massaging at all. No massage oil. Nothing. It was a whole hour of pulling skin apart anywhere between 30 seconds to a minute on each section. I wasn't aware of what time had passed, so I didn't speak up. I figured this might have been a technique they use in Austin as a pre-massage? I don't know! I was speechless as to what was happening. I was told to turn over, and again I'm not sure how long it had been at this point so I was thinking "oh maybe they stretch the whole body and then go in for the massage." Um...I truly gave the benefit of the doubt! Again no massaging anywhere. In the lowest whisper, she told me I was done and to get dressed and she'll meet me outside. WTF just happened?! The whole time I was thinking "I really hope my friend is having a way better massage than this!" Is this how Austin does deep tissue? Yes, I did pay $100 for this. Which is why it's bothering me even more. Should I have spoken up at that point? Yes, I should have. But I think I was in shock more than anything. When I opened the door from the room I was in, I see my friend and we both looked at each other wide-eyed, like WTF just happened?! Come to find out after we left that she too had the same experience as I did! And she also asked for a deep tissue on her upper back. My friend even tried calling to speak with a manager and was never contacted back. read more

When I feel stressed out from spending hours at work in front of the computer and my back and my shoulders are tight from tension, a massage from Eleanor is the perfect antidote and makes me feel like a new person. She has a vibrant, upbeat personality, and it's clear she enjoys her work. She knows a lot about anatomy and where and how to apply the right pressure, and a massage session with her is relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time. I've had three sessions with Luna Wood. She is licensed in lymphatic massage (among others) which is a specialized practice, hard to come by and recommended for detoxification. (My doctor specifically ordered this type of massage for a post op procedure.) Luna has great hands and sensitivity! I mentioned offhandedly that my back hurt and she immediately worked on my neck, shoulders and back, applied arnica oil and I felt the knots melting away! With palpation and light friction she is able to locate the muscles that need work and adapts the technique accordingly. I feel much better and will continue to receive therapy. I was in town on vacation and found South Congress Massage via a google search. I called and was lucky enough to get an appointment that day. Beth was absolutely wonderful. I had booked one hour so that I could see if her massage style was up my alley and extended it within 10 minutes because she was such a pro at what she does. My friend and I happen to walk by while visiting South Congress and stopped in. We originally planned for each to have a 30 minute massage, but without knowing it, both decided to go for a 1hour massage after our massage therapists started because it was so great! My massage therapist, Erin, was AMAZING! It was one of the best massages I have ever had! I walked out of there feeling relaxed and rejuvenated! Paul Drown is amazing. Was visiting Austin, and fortunately had the chance to get a last minute appointment to seek relief for back pain that was interfering with my vacation. I always tell a massage therapist that he or she does not have to solve all my issues during the appointment. Eleanor is an incredible instructor. I took a series of 8 pilates classes with her at the UT Athletics Department and it was a great experience. She has a very intuitive understanding of her students' bodies and how to make each session work best for them. She can easily locate trouble spots and areas of your body where you need extra attention due to stress or muscle imbalance. After every session with her, I felt like I got a great workout suited just for me and now, my body is much more balanced and strong which helps prevent injuries. Eleanor has such a kind and peaceful spirit and I will definitely see her again for massage therapy or pilates sessions in the future. read more

Just got out of an amazing massage with Negeen! I live a very active life and do a lot of physical work which leads to a lot of chronic aches and pains. After briefly describing some of these symptoms to Negeen she was able to give my body exactly what it needed and now I feel great! Message to the manager/owner: I went to your massage salon yesterday2/12/18 with my friend. Our appt was at 445 There was an unpleasant odor. I felt uncomfortable in the space therefore i did not get fully undressed . The massage was not what I expected. There was very little pressure and deff was not the deep tissue massage I had requested. i was hoping the massage would get better but it did not. It cannot even be defined as a massage. The therapist seemed as if she was not fully trained to do a shoulder and neck massage. There was a dirty white robe hanging by the door where I was asked to hang my things. After the massage she asked how everything was and then did not give us a minute to respond. She started the transaction on the phone and asked for payment. Overall we had a horrible experience and no relaxation or relief.. which was the purpose of the massage while on vacation. Please contact me to further discuss this. I called to speak with a manager today but it was states noone will be available until tomorrow morning. Thanks. I still haven't received a call back. South Congress Massage is great! Convenient location on bustling South Congress Ave, but peaceful and quiet in the high ceilinged space. I have had massages from Eleanor Harris - she truly has a healing gift. There are several rooms in the space so couples or friends can get massages together. I wish I could go more often. read more

He listened to my concerns and did a full assessment before beginning my massage. He was professional, courteous and overall great guy!
