No worries, RI is a BYOB state... So I asked where is the nearest liquor store and the woman behind the counter said right across the street. I put my order in, and left and got a beautiful bottle of wine to have with my dinner. When I came back I was told that that could not be consumed on the premises. It's against the law. ???? I have been to numerous restaurants in Rhode Island that offer BYOB. We had a lively discussion... what she was telling me was inaccurate but she did not want to hear it. I was perplexed. Why would they tell me that the liquor store was across the street knowing I was going there to pick up a bottle of wine? any event read the law but I'd love to hear your comments. Becky's: "There is no such thing as BYOB in Rhode Island; Rhode Island law doesn't allow it." That's incorrect. Rhode Island DBR expressly discusses legal BYOB establishments, and Middletown's ordinance expressly recognizes them One more famous Newport BYOB deserves mention: Winner Winner was repeatedly singled out as one of Newport's best BYOB restaurants--Condé Nast Traveler specifically described it as BYOB. However, because that information is older, I would call before bringing a bottle rather than tell you it's definitely still BYOB today.And there's an important point from our Becky's discussion: I found enough current BYOB restaurants in Rhode Island to make their statement that "there's no such thing as BYOB in Rhode Island" even more clearly wrong. We started with a half order of nachos topped with the most flavorful pulled pork I've ever had. My wife and I literally couldn't stop eating. The fresh jalapeños added just the right kick, perfectly balanced by the sweetness of the barbecue sauce, and the house-made chips stayed crisp the whole time--no sogginess, just done right. Every detail was intentional, and you could taste it. Then came the dry rub chicken wings--perfectly cooked with a juicy center and a crisp exterior. The subtle honey sriracha flavor layered in beautifully without overpowering the chicken. To finish, we had the baby back ribs over coconut rice. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the rice was cooked perfectly with just the right hint of sweetness, and the shaved Brussels sprouts with pickled onions and jalapeños added the perfect crunch and contrast. I genuinely couldn't stop eating. The service matched the food. Our waitress guided us with spot-on recommendations, and I must have told her six times that this was the best meal I've ever had. From the jump, they were super friendly and genuinely excited that I sought them out just to try the food. Always a great sign. As for the wings I went with their recommendation: the Original Bo's Sauce, a sweet buffalo-style sauce. The wings were dredged with a perfectly crispy coating, cooked just right, and tossed generously in sauce. They come with your choice of blue cheese or ranch. To be honest, these were some of the best wings I've had this month, balanced, flavorful, and addictively good. I also ordered the onion rings, which came in a huge portion of battered, fried sweet onions. Crispy, not greasy, and paired with a tangy remoulade that took them over the top. Absolute win. Unfortunately no photos this time, I dug into them before remembering to snap one (a problem that speaks for itself). Bottom line: Bo's Wings & Rings is 100% worth seeking out.
