What a fantastic dive today. Loved how the captained evaluated the conditions and put us on the perfect wreck. Ensured everyone's abilities were challenged, from the tech divers to the open water certified. Asked were the divers wanted to be dropped and listened to their feedback, but then guided them towards the safest entry and exit points. Dived the Quallman Tugs and third reef. Swam east as instructed and hit all four wrecks. Always think about trying another dive company, but always return to SFDH.... No Brainer!!! read more

Great diving. The boat and crew were great and well setup. They were very helpful. Would definitely dive with them next opportunity that I have. Yesterday I gave them a 4 star review, but I had to come back and made it a five star. I could not think of think of why they did not deserve a 5. Megan went around and handed out water and pineapple. When you exited the water they helped you back to your seat. They helped unload tanks. They were top notch and very service oriented. read more

Some good, some bad. The Good: The staff inside the shop and the crew on board the boats are very friendly and helpful. The catamaran boats are roomy with lots of shade. The bad: SFLA runs three boats. Two catamarans and a smaller dive boat. The problem is if you end up on one of the catamarans you are usually mixed with snorkelers. Snorkel sites are very few in this area; so if the boat has them your dive experience will not be good because the boat has to cater to the snorkelers first, a real headache while you're on your drift dive, and dive site options are more limited. Also, the catamaran style requires you to exit the boat from the side...talk about a "giant stride"! It feels like you're jumping out of an airplane (ok, slight exaggeration, but make sure you hold onto your mask!) Also, because the side is so high handing your fins to the divemaster when you complete your dive and are on the ladder requires a bit more of a lunge than other boats. Anyway, MAKE SURE the boat you book has DIVERS ONLY. Often, the shop doesn't figure that out until the day before the dive. So, IMO, don't dive with them if there are snorkelers on your boat, or worse, they decide to move you from the dedicated dive boat to the snorkel boat at the last minute if they don't have enough divers on the dedicated dive boat. Also, they are more expensive than other dive boats in the area, they even charge you for weight! I have never had a dive boat charge for weight in this area. They also add a 3% fee for using a credit card! Finally, while they have a water jug on board, they do not offer bottled water or any snacks so bring your own if you want it. Finally, they also do not have any kind of rinse bucket on the boat; nowhere to leave your camera between dives, you can't even rinse out your mask with defog unless you use the shower!! read more

This shop absolutely exceeded my expectations! The staff (Mark and Quinn) were knowledgeable, patient, and a lot of fun. We took the Black Pearl out earlier today for a morning dive and witnessed the staff do everything from support, encourage, and give tips to young and new divers to responding safely and quickly to a possible emergency. This staff is amazingly well trained and I have genuinely never felt safer going on a dive than I was on this boat today. A group of us including two who wanted to look down through the glass bottom made a reservation to snorkel. We weren't told we'd be relegated to the small 8 seat dive boat with no glass bottom of there weren't enough people signed up! It was a waste of the $25 for the riders so be sure you ask if there's enough people before you book. That said, the captain and Zach were great. We were thankful to have those two. read more

The Captains (Dave, Zoli, Brad, Chris) and Divemasters (Shawn, Liz) are extremely professional, and go beyond the call of duty to make your diving experience as fun and pleasant as possible. One of the main things I love about this operation is that they don't babysit you or restrict the amount of time you can remain underwater (just NO DECO unless you are doing a technical dive). What a great experience, the captain and the crew were beyond amazing. My boyfriend and I are taking scuba diving lessons and today was our first open water dive. The crew made our day more relaxed and enjoyable since we were a little nervous. We did two dives, first they took us to the nursery were we got to see beautiful reefs and nurse sharks. Then we went to the second diving spot, SS Copenhagen Shipwreck. Both sites were great for scuba and snorkeling. The crew made sure we were well hydrated and fed us little snacks. They also helped us get in and out of the water safely always keeping an eye on us and letting us know key spots for our dives. Went on a day-long diving trip with some of our buddies we knew from the shop. With my family in tow we drove the 4 hours from St. Augustine to Pompano, and I'm glad we did! Pompano is well-known for its beautiful reefs, vibrant life, and the wreck of the SS Copenhagen. Drift dives are usually not my preference, due to all the moving parts involved, but with a trip under the watchful eyes of the crew, it was painless and I saw exactly what we came to see. The visibility was a bit lower than usual (as I had been informed) due to the rain we had, but it was nonetheless lovely. The boat was very comfortable, the crew expert, the music fine, and the ocean lovely. I highly recommend this shop if you're looking to explore Pompano for the day! It was a three tank dive and that felt just enough to do a little poking around. Super great! I can't say enough good things about it. read more

My wife and I went on a morning and afternoon 2 tank dive today. We went on the Black Pearl in the morning with captain Dave and Shawn. Both these guys were terrific. They were both friendly and knowledgeable. We dove on the Aqua Zoo first and then sanctuary. Great dives. We got back from the morning dive and headed right out on the next. The morning boat was running late but Andrew and Aria had our spots ready and tanks on board. Aria even shared her lunch with us since we had no time to eat. We dove on Lady Luck and Abby Too on this trip. I can't say enough about the staff, boats and shop. Great experience. read more

My wife and I had not been diving for a while so she booked a trip with South Florida Diving Headquarters on Sunday 23-July. We booked the 1:30pm Reef Sanctuary trip as they had a few options at that time. They instructed us to get there at 12:30pm to register. They provided decent instructions on how to get to the facility and it was easy enough to find. Registration took some time due to the crowd but it was ok. Much of the trip after this was a mess! We were waiting around until 1:30pm for the boat to return from a previous trip. It did make it back to the dock around 1:30pm then we were waiting for everyone to get off, remove all the equipment, etc... They then let everyone on the boat, then they put the tanks on, and then they got equipment for anyone who was renting. This process was a complete mess and was different than every other charter I've ever been on! Usually a 1:30pm trip the boat is pulling out of the dock at 1:30pm. With SF diving headquarters our boat didn't leave the dock until about 2:45pm. While all this was going on we were instructed that the boat was not going to be going to the location we signed up for. Don't know why, they didn't say. I guess they didn't want to operate another boat so they threw us all on this one. Ok, so now we are going to be diving on a wreck and not the reef like we had originally planned so we modified our expectations. Once we got to the wreck the dive master said the current was too strong and recommended against diving the wreck so plans changed yet again... There is more to this story but it's not the main focus of my review so I'll save it for others. All this combined we didn't make it back to the dock until 7:30pm! This is far from what we expected for a 2 tank dive that was at 1:30pm. I suggest you look elsewhere for your diving needs as there are many other better ships out there. I will say that I gave 2 stars because the crew on the boat worked hard and most of the issues aren't with them. They were nice and helpful while on the boat. The outfit and their process needs a serious overhaul though! read more

My family and I came here from the west coast of Florida to do our check out dives for PADI open water certification. We went out yesterday and today and the DM's and crew worked well with a boat full of newbie divers and snorkelers. They were very accommodating and made me feel very comfortable. The best part could have been the fresh, cold pineapple that was served at the end of each dive. I would definitely come to this operation for future dives. Excellent time in less than excellent conditions. Took the open water advanced course with Tim and he was a phenomenal instructor. Large currents and waves on the surface, but he was patient and walked me through the skills, teaching both above and under water in a simple and effective manner. The staff here were awesome: super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. I went out for an afternoon snorkeling trip. I was able to get registered right away and join the boat. We went to two sites to see a real coral reef and a real shipwreck. I saw lots of beautiful fish, a little sting ray, loads of harmless sparkling jellyfish, and even two friendly sharks. The staff were really friendly and nice: giving us tips, telling us about the history of the shipwreck, and letting us watch as they fed the friendly sharks. It was so much fun! This was my first time Scuba diving ever! It definitely won't be my last. captain Chris and Divemaster Sean were welcoming, knowledgeable, friendly entertaining and funny! They put me totally at ease as a newbie. Their witty banter also belies for the fact they are very knowledgeable of the history of the dive sites and such. We felt very well cared for and appreciated how hard they worked to ensure that everyone had a great experience! These guys are great. They are very accommodating the boat crews were all great. The black petal is a very nice boat and the sites they went to were well varied between wrecks and reefs. I would make sure you check any rental equipment from them. I did have problems with fins and refs, but that being said they took care of it promptly. read more
