We went close to sunset so it got pretty dark fast but it was still very peaceful. It was really like walking through a forest. I felt like I wasn't in Charlotte anymore. It was a nice getaway. The trails are well marked and you can choose your adventure and go different ways or simply sit by the water and relax. I would go back here again!!

The Hoyt Hinson trail had some old plantation remnants in the woods. We hiked most of the trails. There is a parking lot that's isn't very large but we were able to find a parking spot.

I didn't walk the whole thing, but the area we did walk was so serene. There's some creeks and beautiful trees. It also runs right behind a neighborhood so there are backyards right there on the greenway and that was fun to see. There were a lot of people out and about so I felt perfectly safe. I will be back to the spot often!!! So fun and so pretty!

This greenway wasn't crowded in the morning when we went. We did 5.4 miles round trip which I believe was the whole greenway, but it connects to other greenways so you could definitely do more if you want. Like many greenways, it passes by houses/neighborhoods. The biggest reason why I love this one is because the houses are gorgeous and so fun to check out as you're walking by. There's plenty of parking at the school if you're there on a weekend. Check it out for your next outdoor activity in the city!

The park features a Veterans Memorial, an amphitheater and the town's Centennial Dedication Wall. A brick path winds around and there are a number of wrought iron tables and chairs which were super on a sunny Sunday afternoon. There are six large campsites with fire rings and grills, but there were other camping areas as well. We had enough people for this weekend of camping (about 200) that we rented the entire island. OMG! It was such a nice venue. There is a pavilion with an enclosed area for preparing food with kitchen, sinks, etc., along with many (I didn't count!) picnic tables on the cement slab under the covered area for serving dinner and for gatherings. There are also four actual large bathrooms which I wasn't expecting. We rented addtnl port-o-potties but we really didn't need them. Better safe than sorry! We had a DJ setup under the shelter and it became a stage with spectator area at night for entertainment. There is a nice sand volleyball court next to the pavilion if the island and lake don't offer enough entertainment and exercise. Don't miss out on the floating dock that goes out into the lake. We brought floats and hung out there during the day. There are two large parking areas at the head of the island, but plan to walk alot and carry your stuff a good distance. Beautiful spot for a picnic or family gathering. If it's like SC parks, you can probably get a yearly pass. It would be worth it if you live in the area. Only 10 minutes away from Fort Mill/Rock Hill too.

I really like that this park connects to the South Fork Catawba River Greenway. It's pretty short, but a nice walk. It also connects to the town of Cramerton and another section of the Carolina Thread Trail down by the Catawba River. I'm sure the park itself is also really nice when it's not under construction. I definitely recommend checking out the trails that connect to it too.

Operated by the City of Cramerton (which I think I've never heard of), Goat Island Park features a…read more3/4 mile paved surface trail, observation pier, two canoe/kayak landings, picnic shelters, disc gold course and an open air amphitheater. The park has been open since 2012 and is in excellent condition. The park is 30 acres with hardwoods, vegetation and wetlands. It gets the interesting name from the town's founder, Stuart Cramer, who released goats onto the island to control the weeds dating back to as early as 1910. The pathways stretch through a nicely forested area, some of which also has a small stream that snakes through a few communities in Matthews.
