Of Charlotte's many open parks, I found this one the best for quiet sitting, with a manicured, shaded space and a relative paucity of people disrupting things. There were some art objects of various sorts that might hold a moment's interest, but the main attraction seemed to be the grass and the shade.
Bottom Line: A smallish but well manicured green space in Charlotte offering lots of lovely plants and some public art. My husband and I decided to check out The Green while staying in Uptown. He was curious about the famous sign pointing to the other Charlottes in the United States and I'm always up for checking out plants and seeing what is in bloom. The grass at The Green was a nice break from the harshness of the surrounding streets and skyscrapers. I liked the meandering paver paths and being open to wherever they'd take us. The fountain with the four fish spitting water was quite whimsical but sadly when I visited it wasn't on yet. Overall a nice little spot in the city.
When we were walking around downtown Charlotte, we came upon an area that was noticeably.....green! Imagine my surprise when I did a yelp search to see if I could check in in this area, and sure enough there were several reviews for this nice little downtown park called "The Green". Kinda finding itself sandwiched between office buildings, I can see this place being a great "get away from work" lunch escape. One of the cooler features about the green, at least to me was their many mile markers that show arrows pointing to (insert city), with the approximate number of miles to get there and in what direction you can go. These little posts are littered all over the park and are impossible to ignore. There are several statues like the three large fish that kids seemed to love and the book statues as well. It's just a really nice place to find yourself on a warm and dry day. Natural shade from all of the trees, there's a large amount of landscaping around for sitting, or you can just have a seat on the well manicured grass. Not the largest park, but it is a little squirt of outdoor happiness between business as usual. There are no restrooms here, but there are trash cans about for that time when you'd like to have a snack in the shade and need to toss your food wrappers. I had no expectations for this park, and truly didn't know it existed, but because it hit the spot AND was such a nice break from all of the downtown-ness, it's easily 5 stars for me. Would I plan an entire trip to charlotte around it? Nah...it's not that kind of park. But while you're there, you will enjoy it no doubt!
The Green is such a great park! You can go to this park any time during any season, but the best is spring, summer and fall. In the summer time, the grass is green, people are outside relaxing on the grass, dogs running around...it's such a great feeling and place to be! There are statues and benches around the park, as well as multiple signs showing the amount of miles to numerous cities/states around the U.S. Very cool! Parking garage is located under the park, but there is also street parking if available. It's truly a great park to visit!
Charlotte has truly done an amazing job with it's city beautification project. The Green is a lovely little inner city park that offers a change in scenery right smack in the middle of up-town Charlotte. It is literally the perfect spot to have a small picnic or midday walk. Spindled with story books themed architecture, the little park can offer a great view for photo backgrounds. It's truly a jewel in The Queens crown.
This is a nice little park situated between rows of shops uptown. There's a lot of neat public art scattered throughout. We came most recently for Charlotte Shout to see the giant inflatable bunnies. This was an awesome exhibit and it would be cool if they had different art installations more often. The green is a small space but it's well done. There's also a fountain for the kids to splash around in when it's hot outside. It's a good place to come to relax and hang out for a couple hours.
Cool little city park with some sculptures and public art pieces. It's on the smaller side, but it's definitely worth a visit to explore and walk around - especially on a pretty day.
So... I've got a thing for street art, modern sculptures, and murals in the cities that I visit. I set my sights on The Green and grabbed my mom, grabbed Grammy, and headed downtown! I was looking for the skull (The Head) sculpture that has been gone for the longest, so I'm told. Not gonna' lie-- that news CRUSHED me! But, all wasn't lost as I enjoyed a few other sculptures that are still there and (although they're not a colorful, giant skull) pretty awesome! Seriously, google it and you'll understand my pain in missing it! (I digress.) The Green is well manicured and a perfect picnic/hang out spot in downtown Charlotte with great local art. After I cried, I truly enjoyed it!
I'm turning green with envy at the thought of this park. They should have these in every downtown. This tiny little sliver of green in the very middle of the high-rises of downtown Charlotte is a brilliant idea. They should put little parks and green strips like this all over all the downtowns and shopping areas and industrial areas and also residential areas of America. The more, the better. A very good idea and a nice place to hang out when you're lost in the sea of concrete that is Carolina's biggest - but not best - city.
If you work in or often visit Uptown, you'll eventually find yourself cutting through the Green. And lucky you, it's gorgeous! This beautiful break from the grey and black hues of the streets is a refreshing feature of Second Ward. It is so much more than a pedestrian friendly path between Tryon and College. Besides the shops and restaurants, it's a spot to relax, reflect, and just enjoy a moment. The Green features plenty of seating from benches to just propping yourself up against one of the raised flower beds. You can even bring a towel and lounge on the well manicured lawns (or go sans towel if things are dry enough, I've seen no anthills for what it's worth). The fountain in the middle of the park is the key feature for the kids. My favorite little accents is the scattered metal "pages" from famous works of literature scattered throughout. There are a few restaurants that skirt the perimeter of the green: Matt's Chicago Dog, Fuel Pizza, and Brazz Brazilian Steakhouse all come to mind and are all good choices for lunch. On the side closest to MLK Blvd there's an entrance/exit to the "Skyway" bridge that goes over the streets of Uptown and connects The Wells Fargo building with the Overstreet Mall, and ultimately the Bank of America buildings. You can actually go from the park to Trade and Tryon without ever hitting the streets! Parking is pretty much what you'd expect for Uptown. Considering this is one of the smallest parks within 10 miles of the Center City, I'd suggest a visit here as an addition to your trip, and not the main reason to come. If you're looking for a full featured park with FREE dedicated parking and facilities like restrooms and shelters, I'd suggest Freedom Park just a couple miles south from here. Regardless of how you find yourself here, it's one of my favorite spots inside the beltway!
I accidentally visited this place and i feel lucky for that.After visiting Visitor center, i came across this place(opposite to it). This is simply superb place with small water fountain, benches to seat, and so many other things. There is a fountain with fish theme where kids can play with water.There is a pole with directions to some famous places like Florida, Utah. Even though it is small, you can enjoy every bit of it.
I loved discovering this little green space while walking through the busy streets of Charlotte one Friday afternoon. Located near the end of the "business" side, off Tryon, The Green has it all. Short walking paths, scattered seating, both shaded and in the sun, a clean public restroom, water (in the form of fish fountains as well as water fountains) to put you into a peaceful mood or run through. And, my favorite part, beautiful, artistic sculptures and eye catching signs. Look for the hop-scotch pattern to play a game or the lovely Mediterranean concrete pillow seating. If you're a lover of poetry or literature, you'll appreciate the many author influences and sentiments. The Green is a perfect spot to run into accidentally and take a breath of fresh air while still being in the middle of busy downtown (actually uptown!) Charlotte. Lay down in the grassy null and rest awhile or visit one of the handful of shops and restaurants that surround the green space; they even have a mini-museum if you want a tiny (very, very tiny) taste of the big guys across the street.
Discovered this adorable little plaza while exploring Uptown! I love the literary theme and various bronze pages as well as the different city combinations of famous authors names and their respective distances. Also loved seeing all the different "Charlottes" of the world and their respective locations/distances. Learning that Charlotte, NC was the center of the known World will be a useful funfact to add to my "newly acquired random knowledge" repertoire! Fun and beautiful place to take a break, spend a nice afternoon, or just relax and enjoy some shade and a breeze.

The Green is probably my favorite park in the city. There are just so many things to see and will miss until you come back and notice something new. Small park but reminds me of Alice in wonderland. The Fish Fountains are a neat feature. And also have a few restaurants near by in case you get hungry. Definitely worth a stroll through and hang out. Nice part about this park too is that there are plenty of trees for some shade in the hot sun. read more

There are fishes that spit out water and my daughter will spend 1-3 hours here having fun! fuel pizza is a great stop for pizza in the park and it is just so lovely and nicely maintained. THIS IS OUR FAVORITE PARK! read more
A picturesque public space filled with works of art! I really am amazed at how great Charlotte's public spaces are. This seems to be an underground parking garage that they topped with a public park! The park is filled with public works of art, many meant to be touched, climbed on, sat on, etc. They offer chairs and tables with chessboards built into them, or lounging chairs to relax and read a book in. The fountains are a beautiful sight, and take the park goer to a place far from the hustle of the financial district of one of the largest financial hubs in the country. The art was varied, some of it in disrepair. The art is still accessible, and nobody seems to mind if you take a quick snooze on the art. I enjoyed how they have directional signs posted about. One of the signs pointed the way to Alice, Texas, a tiny town in the Eagle Ford Shale region of the Lone Star State. There seem to be public restrooms in the parking garage, and there are places to eat along the length of the park. There's plenty of trees to find shade in on a hot day, and lots of grass to relax in. In my book, this is a five-star park. read more

Ahh... an oasis for the worker drone. Fresh grass, trees, flowers, birds... the whole park experience a short walk from my desk. It is the most perfect spot to spend a lunch break, just soaking in the sun and enjoying the peacefulness. Such a simple pleasure! And if you are feeling really bold, bring a towel and swimsuit and catch some rays.... I dare you. If you get a chance, take a stroll through the prayer garden at the adjacent church, it's shady, peaceful, and packed full of vegetation. It might even want to make you say a prayer! read more
My happy place. A literacy themed, gorgeous, urban, finely landscapped park right slab in the center of the business arts section of Uptown Charlotte.Whomever designed this park is oh so clever. Book statues, game board paths, statues, park benches under green trees and flowers, and distance away signs made into author names adorn this space. My book lover heart was thrilled and tickled pink. The space has many eateries in the adjacent office building. read more
Some very interesting artworks and requires a bit of walking to get to. The colors and various shapes really makes this area quite a find. The Head is spectacular and has an area to sit in. Beautiful inside and out. My favorite is the Miles Davis. An assortment of colors with the gold trumpet pointing upwards. Quite a piece of work. A very relaxing place to go to with the shade and water works on the side. read more
A lovely green space in Uptown with "take-away" restaurants nearby, making it a perfect place to have lunch and enjoy the outside. Fountains, sculptures and a neat spot to get away from the urban crawl, even for a half hour. Lots of benches and places to sit. read more

Through the sounds of buses going by, employees on their cell phones and the foot traffic scurrying along, lies the quietness and relaxing area known as The Green. Retail shops and places to eat line the perimeter of the park, but the real gem is the park itself. Walkways weave in and out of the grassy areas, and if you follow them you will be pleasantly surprised by fountains flowing out of fish sculptures (see pic), interesting pictures in the sidewalk, and little areas to rest your feet. Pay attention to the wooden "street signs" as you travel through and enjoy the peace and quiet in here. This is a great place to keep in mind if you are getting married and looking for a place to take nice pictures. Over the weekend we saw a Bride and Groom doing just that, and it looked like they got some great shots. read more

The Green is my favorite part of Uptown. I used to work right by there and I'd often go out to The Green to eat my lunch or read a book. It's the perfect place to escape your office and enjoy beautiful weather. On weekdays, you'll find plenty of bank employees sitting at the outdoor tables eating lunch from Matt's Chicago Dog or Sandwich Club and on the other side, you'll see little kids playing in the fish fountain. During the winter, there is a tiny ice rink on The Green (which is a funny sight on those odd days when it's suddenly 65 degrees again). In the summer, Charlotte Shakespeare Theatre does awesome performances on The Green. read more
Love this little oasis in the heart of Uptown. Although small, there are still three lawns to play, lay or walk your pup. Nice fountain/ splash area for kids and the entire area is always well maintained/ landscapes. Would love to see a doggie bag installation here! read more

This uptown park is a cool place to shoot photos, chill and walk around late afternoon and evening. i'll take more photos here at different times of the year, my other photos got credited to the Bechtler Museum across the street because the artist was being featured then, but that art is gone now, still a nice place to visit or wait if you are going to eat or visit many museums in walking distance read more

This place is awesome....it is a great place to come and relax during the day...I love coming here on breaks at work...it is good for the soul and clearing my mind. There are alot of cool spots to eat ad well..So grab something to go and go enjoy the weather. read more
