Wonderful. I've been going to this clinic for over 20 years. I feel valued. While too many providers just follow the medical algorithms mechanically, the doctors here exercise excellent clinical wisdom to boot. The staff are caring, competent, and provide strength-oriented patient empowerment. They have helped me through good times and challenging times and put up with me when I was not at my best. I'd leave zero stars if I could. I saw Jan Litz, and my son saw Dr. Copperman. THIS IS THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I'VE RECEIVED ANYWHERE. AND THE WORST 'HEALTHCARE' AS WELL-though I'm hesitant to even call it that. I did not at all feel like Jan cared about my *personal* needs. She was warm and friendly enough until I asked her to order some tests that I wanted, or to think outside of her narrow thoughts. I was only asking for a comprehensive thyroid panel-we aren't talking expensive hypochondriac things. When I told her that a topical medication she prescribed was causing dryness and irritation, she dismissed my concerns and told me to keep using it. I took my son to see Dr. Copperman for a specific concern and he told my son that his issues were his own fault. His blaming alienated me, shamed my son and did NOTHING to address the concern we came in for. I have NEVER been treated this way before by anyone. His care was so terrible that I sat in the car crying from anger. I asked for a referral for my son, and was handed a list of providers and told they would send over a referral. When I called to follow-up, the referral told me they weren't accepting new patients. I called the clinic back but no one was available to help me. 3 days later they returned my multiples calls and said they'd send it through to another. That one ALSO was not accepting new patients. And then it happened a third time. Finally, I started calling around and then asked the new clinic to call for a referral and it took a week to receive it! As if that wasn't enough, the front office told me that I did not need to make a co-pay for a visit. I told them, are you sure? I usually do. They told me no, and refused to take any payment. When I was then billed for it, I called to find out why and was placed on hold, or hung up on, and never got an answer. When I went in for the next appointment, they told me at the appointment that I had to pay a $100 deposit to be seen since I was delinquent on my bills. DELINQUENT. It was a $20 co-pay. I was there for an appointment and had no other choice if I wanted my son to be seen. read more

If I could give zero Stars I would. I had the worst experience at the South hilyard Medical Clinic. Jan was my "primary care physician". I did not select her myself. My insurance chose the clinic and she was the first available doctor. Knowing what I know now I would not have chosen her and I will advise anyone and everyone to steer clear from this doctor. She provided the lowest possible level of care to me in my time of need. I had a time-sensitive need for an MRI that was requested by a different doctor. She wasted my entire day by not relaying a message to her front desk staff. Instead of getting the medical attention that I needed I am going without because of Jan and her decision to be to not help me. The one time I saw Jan and was "helped" she gave me the roughest pelvic exam of my life and sent me on my way with no answers as to why I was in so much pain. Chiropractors and acupuncturists show so much more care for their patients and they have helped me manage my pain and get answers in a way that no medical doctor ever has. Jan falls under that category of individuals who have failed to help me in the Healthcare System. The front desk staff are friendly and seem like they care each time they speak with you. In trying to get my MRI I spoke to 3 different ladies. I called back several times in order to get answers each time waiting several hours between phone calls. No one had answers for me because none of them followed through with what they said they would do after they hung up the phone. The last girl finally did and it seemed as if she had just gotten yelled at by Jan for trying to get answers for me to solve my pain. This is a joke of a clinic with a terrible doctor who doesn't care or want to help at all. If that is the kind of "quality" that would would like to pay an arm and a leg for then this is the perfect place for you. If not then keep searching!!! read more

It is with a heavy heart that I have to rate South Hilyard so low. I've never seen Dr. Copperman, but for a short time I did see FNP Meg Hamilton. Meg is one of the best FNPs I've ever seen, and she does a ton of reading to make sure her knowledge is as up to date as possible. In fact, FNP Meg was so amazing, I began taking my daughter to South HIlyard Clinic, which is how I experienced the one great failing of this clinic: the support staff, particularly in reception and billing. While the nursing staff are not particularly mean, they are incredibly impersonal and not terribly inviting. But what I found more disturbing was the billing error, and how quickly South Hilyard Clinic sent me to collections for their billing mistake. My daughter has double coverage, and at virtually every doctor I take her to, she is never charged a copay because of this. I am careful to make sure that reception / billing are provided with the insurance information at the first appointment, because I used to bill health insurance for a clinic I worked at, and I know how important this is. At the time of the visit, we were not asked for a copay, which is exactly what I expect with the double coverage. Unfortunately, there was a profound disconnect after this and I was sent a bill for a copay, which I didn't act on because often that sometimes occurs when primary insurance has been billed, and secondary insurance needs to be billed. Again, I used to bill health insurance, so this isn't an uncommon thing, but most clinics have it on the ball enough that when the first invoice goes out showing a balance, they know it's time to bill the secondary coverage. (This is required as you can't bill both secondary and primary at the same time, primary has to decline payment for a specific portion before secondary can be billed.) Sadly, South Hilyard Clinic couldn't get it together to bill daughter's secondary insurance. I tried a couple of times to phone to remind them that my daughter had double coverage and there should be no copay at all. When I called, I was invariably placed on hold too long. I'm a working single mother, also in school, most work weeks I clock 50-60+ hours, so unfortunately I do not have time to sit on hold to attend to a billing error I didn't cause. Woe be unto you if you need to try to speak on the phone to that biller because it was impossible for me to connect with her to get everything straightened out. In just over 30 days I was sent to collections, and at that point I called the office and when they asked to put me on hold, I firmly said no. I explained what had occurred and how deeply frustrated I was, and that not only did they immediately need to rescind the collection order, they needed to immediately bill my daughter's secondary insurance. I reminded them that they never asked for a copay at the time of visit because my daughter had double insurance coverage! I'm pretty fussy about my medical care, and while FNP Meg Hamilton is amazing, the combined experience of her insurance biller's gaffes, painful hold times to try to get this taken care of, and relative lack of warmth on the part of the nursing staff forces me to suggest that you should take a pass on this clinic if you can. I work hard and live on a budget, and sometimes for my own appointments I need to pay the copay on my payday, which I've never had issues with at Inkwell Medical, for instance. I've also experienced a great deal of flexiblity with Two Rivers Health Center (FNPs Blaker and Kernan). As an aside, the only other thing I'd like to mention is that the clinic as a whole is incredibly old and shabby on the interior. I realize that's a "First World Problem" but it's hard to tell what is clean based upon how dark and old everything is--and this extends to things like scuffs on the walls, broken baseboards in the rooms, etc. It's hard for me to imagine that surfaces are being cleaned as often as they should, given the shabby and old interior of the clinic. read more

Hi - I've been a patient of Jan Lintz's for a couple of years now - Dr. Copperman asked me to see her regarding hormone replacement therapy, and I liked her enough that I switched over to her. I'm very surprised to hear from other patients who have had trouble with Jan; to me, she's been warm, a careful listener, and very aware of the circumstances of my life. My spouse sees Dr. Copperman and is also very happy with his treatment. South Hilyard Clinic is a small, personal office, without the levels of bureaucracy that you get from the larger medical groups around town. We know everyone there by name and they know us, and they've been extremely helpful with our health needs, ranging from minor to major. I recommend Jan, Dr. Copperman and South Hilyard to all our friends who are looking for medical care. read more

When I was seen at the South Hilyard Clinic they minimized my medical issues,did not take them seriously and did not provide all my options for treatment. I switched to a different medical center where I was heard and treated with the seriousness that I felt was necessary. I do not recommend anyone to use this clinic, their pattern of minimizing is neglectful and dangerous. read more

Jan Lintz is the worst doctor I have ever been too. I have never been treated with such disrespect, she is not professional. She doesn't care about your needs or how you feel. I came to her for postpartum depression and basically laughed in my face and said "we are not a good fit" read more

Meg Hamilton, FNP, has been my primary care provider for 15 years. I can't say enough good about her and I am very particular about who I will see for medical issues. I trust Meg implicitly. She is very kind and thorough. She stays abreast of current medical issues and treatments more than some MD's do. When she makes a referral she puts a lot if thought into who is good and who I'd be comfortable with. She is always open to listening and keeps an open mind. I'd refer anyone else to this provider in a heartbeat. read more

Administration is an absolute nightmare. They take forever, leave you on hold for an unreasonable amount of time, and every time I've been in it has been at least a 20-30 minute wait beyond my appointment window. I like the doctors, but as the front and back of house have been terribly hard to work with, I cannot recommend this clinic. read more

My provider is Meg Hamilton and she is excellent. I also have seen Dr Copperman in the past, when she was not in the office. I also can and do speak highly of him. Both are professional, smart and compassionate, a combination which does not always exist. This is an independent clinic, not beholden to the pressures of bigger corporate systems. The nurses are excellent as well. On the bulletin boards there are flyers for healing arts, food pantries and other community sources of support. Sometimes they can run behind on appointments but rest assured this is due to thoroughness of care. read more

I was a patient, of DR Douglas Bovee, there for years, and he was abusive, verbaly, and so Neglectfull, about my injuries. He refused to get me an MRI or examine my Jaw and much moor. I now, have a good dr that gave me an MRI and xrays. It turns out i was right. my jaw is in need of sergery, i had 3 cracked ribs and a torn rotator cup, along with right and left akilies tendon tares, and double carpul tunnel sergeries. as well as 2 discs in my back. He made me suffer for over 7 years. If you love your family and friends, NEVER EVER GO TO Dr.Bovee or South Hilliard Clinic. Im Suing them him for Malpractice. Never would, i ever even send my worst enemy there. read more

Our family sees both Meg Hamilton and Dr Copperman. Both are genuine, dedicated and happen to be pretty fine diagnosticians. I've yet to encounter other physicians/NPs that top their listening skills. As for their patient care, we get the refers we need, thoughtful suggestions for non-prescription remedies, pharmaceuticals when we need them and a willingness to "get results". Both follow up personally and by written communication in a manner that makes it clear they care about me. Such a blessing to have them on our families wellness team. read more

Jan is the first medical pro that I have ever trusted is assuring that I have proper care, mostly because she has proven to be a thoughtful, well-informed and modern medical professional, but also because she has never assumed anything about my health or medical background, which is a common issue that I have dealt with in the past. She knows her stuff, she does research, she looks for the least invasive way to deal with an issue. If she ever leaves South Hilyard, I will follow her wherever she goes! i have seen Jan Lintz for the past five years. She is the most compassionate and thorough health care provider I've ever had. The negative reviews shock me. She listens carefully to me and treats me like an individual rather than a number. She caught my parathyroid problems, which other doctors had missed, and also was very sensitive to me when I was going through a depression. I could not recommend her more highly. I have always had very positive interactions with the office staff at South Hilyard as well. My whole family gets their healthcare at South Hilyard Clinic and we couldn't be happier about it. read more

Dr. Junior is my Doctor at this clinic. She is compassionate and experienced with nearly 40 medical practice years. In my nearly 20 years as her patient she has given me peace of mind with her knowledge/ Standford education and diligent oversight of my physical health. She is an exceptional diagnostician, she diagnosed a condition that I was not aware of and got me on a regime to slow the progression. A rare find in this day and age, someone with integrity and delivers the real thing: quality, comprehensive care. If she is ever accepting new patients, get your foot in the door, you will be very happy. I found the staff at the clinic to be courteous, professional, and prompt. Without exception, Dr. Copperman is a great doctor and his nurses and front staff are always polite and efficient. I'm really surprised at the one star reviews saying Dr. Copperman doesn't care for his patients. I have found him to be one of the most supportive and caring doctors I have ever known, and I have been around 64 years. He keeps current on your conditions, follows them like a hawk and shares information with other appropriate providers in a timely manner. Our son had an infection that I considered not to be important. He experienced pain in his side. We took him in to see Dr. Copperman. Before he came in to the examination room, Dr. Copperman's head nurse saw our son and noted the emergency nature of our son's condition. Dr. Copperman came in quickly, examined our son and told us to go to the ER as soon as possible. He asked us which ER we wanted to go to and within minutes had all of our son's medical information as well as Dr. Copperman's diagnosis at the hospital, Just 15 minutes later, we arrived at the hospital (McKenzie Willamette) and were ushered in to a room, where my son was examined quickly by a doctor. They agreed with Dr. Copperman's diagnosis. Later that day, Dr. Copperman called us to ask how our son was doing, and he kept in touch with us throughout our son's treatment, ensuring that our son was receiving the best possible care In my opinion, this is the best kind of coordinated care and is something Dr. Copperman excels at. As another example, I get my medications through the VA. The medications are prescribed by Dr. Copperman. Because of him and his office staff and Dr. Stubbs at the VA clinic here in town, we have never had a glitch with the VA providing the medications we need in a timely manner. Our family has been seeing Dr. Copperman for nearly 30 years (we first went at the recommendation of one of his patients). Not only is he a caring doctor, he communicates well with us about what we need to do to improve a condition and what his treatments mean. He also answers any questions patiently, including some extensive questions at times that my wonderful wife asks. We have NEVER felt rushed in his or his nurses' care. Of course Dr. Copperman is a busy man as are his nurses, but in the daily scheme of things, he has never let us down. His other patients with whom I have spoken have unreservedly endorsed him and his staff. To a person, they have felt he provides the best care for them. This simply flies in the face of some of the other reviews on this site, which I simply do not understand. If his care were otherwise, you can bet I would provide a different review, but it's simply not the case. Again, I'm not sure of the basis of some of these reviews, but they fly in the face of my and my family's experience with Dr. Copperman's care and that of his staff. In good conscience, I couldn't let some of these reviews stand without providing our experience with Dr. Copperman, his nurses and his office staff. I have never been treated with such disrespect by a medical "professional" in my life. I adore Jan and found her to be incredibly caring, Jan sat with me for 45 minutes and went over all of my medications, my health history..etc. She showed incredible compassion when discussing my current health situation. The problem is with their on-call Doctor - James Martin. My pharmacy had a mixup with my prescription re-fill and didn't notify me until after 5 pm on Friday. I called my prescription in 3 days before it was empty and it clearly said on the bottle it had one refill, but the pharmacy had a question about dosage and wouldn't refill without the Dr's OK. I called the after hours messenger service and received a call back from Dr. James Martin. Martin asked me what my prescription was for, when I replied that it was for Cymbalta, he laughed hysterically. I asked him why he was laughing, to which he replied, "have you ever thought about planning ahead? I have a family and I don't want to receive these kinds of calls on Friday afternoon." First of all, the error was the clinics, not mine. Second, I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, and I do not believe depression medication is anything to laugh about. Third, I have cancer and am in the middle of chemotherapy treatment. I did plan ahead, but what if I didn't? I, nor anyone else, deserves to be spoken to the way I was spoken to. Although I really enjoy this clinic, I have a bad taste in my mouth knowing they have someone so disrespectful taking their after hours calls. read more

I would avoid this clinic. I found Dr Copperman to be uncaring, rude and a waste of time. He literally told me on three occasions that he was too tired to talk and had to move on to see other patients. He needs to retire...he looks about 75-80 and not very interested in patient care. As a medical student who did a four week rotation with Dr. Copperman, I have a unique perspective. I was "behind the scenes" and able to get to know the providers and staff as people as well as appreciate their interactions with patients. I probably observed Dr. Copperman with no fewer than 250 patients during that time. I'd say, without reservation, that Dr. Copperman cares more deeply for his patients than any other doctor I've ever worked with. He tailors his care to the individual patient and spends as much time with the patients as he does preparing for his encounters with them: reviewing his chart notes (though he already has incredible memory for even the littlest details), keeping apprised of the most current medical literature, and personally reviewing all of his patients' lab results, imaging and notes from specialists. When I asked him when he thinks he'll retire, he told me that he will continue to practice until he isn't able to be a good doctor to his patients. He cares so much for his patients that he refuses to abandon them until the day when he can no longer deliver top-notch care. Dr. Copperman is dedicated, passionate and humble. He has a calm, contemplative, zen-like manner that I find incredibly impressive. I've personally seen the difference he's made in his patients' lives, and their families' lives and I know it's because he holds himself to a higher standard than most physicians. So yes, you may sit in the waiting room for 30 minutes if you make a late morning or late afternoon appointment because he is spending a few extra moments with some of his patients--moments that, by the way, come out of his lunch and his time at home with his family, not his time with his patients. And, guess what, when it's your turn, and he's spending those extra minutes with you, you will appreciate it. Dr. Copperman is the type of physician I aim to be. I originally wanted to become a cardiologist or an ER physician, and now I'm only applying to family medicine residencies--in no small part due to the experience I had with Dr. Copperman. He and his staff made me feel welcome and at-home in the very cozy and charming South Hilyard clinic, and I strongly recommend this clinic to anyone looking for personalized care from a group of dedicated providers and savvy office staff. read more

I have been a patient for years. And I would echo what other reviewers are saying. The new office staff they have are under trained. My primary care that I have seen for years denied me antibiotics via a secretary for a tooth abscess. So I will sit in pain over the weekend, waiting for my dentist to open on Monday. I have trouble believing Samatha's review of Dr Terry Copperman. The entire review she complains about Terry as a "her". Got news for you Samatha, Terry is a guy and meeting him, you would never even think otherwise.! IF you had such terrible care during more than one visit, I suggest you re-think who you actually received care from! I have had the BEST care from this clinic, Dr Cooperman and for last several years, Meg Hamilton, along with the nurses and front office staff have been professional, caring, honest, frendly and well informed. This is a small clinic, but unlike others I've been to, I never feel like they have one foot in the door and the other one in the hallway, rushing to get to the next patient. they spend time, they ask questions, they explain things in a way that I can understand. These people really do seem to care about me. Everyone has a right to express their opinions, but I wonder how Samantha could write a very poor review and not even know that the Doctor was male. So happy my wife and I became clients of Dr. Copperman at SHC. Doctor and staff actually take a personal interest in the outcomes of my patient exams and tests, remember my issues and medical history from one visit to the next, and give a level of individual care that's missing in larger medical practices and HMOs. Additionally, every specialist that Dr. Copperman has referred me to has been excellent -- and very helpful. The doctor's assistant, support staff and office staff are all very helpful, friendly and welcoming -- again, a welcome change from the way patients are treated in the more commercial, profit-oriented medical practices around Eugene. My wife and I are so appreciative of the help we get at South Hilyard Clinic that we often bring small gifts (mostly fresh eggs from our backyard chickens) to the clinic staff when we come in for doctor visits. I would certainly refer a friend or family member to this clinic. read more

What a crock. Dr. Copperman is the "original" Dr. Welby. He actually CARES about his patients. Although it's true that I had a billing problem with his accounting staff in the distant past, I believe he has now fixed this problem. And probably after your post, the staff now make it a point to tell patients when the procedures are NOT covered by insurance. In fact they told me SEVERAL times before I had an uncovered expense. As to Dr. Copperman being tired, you must have gotten him on an exceptionally busy day. Both my husband and I have had "EMERGENCIES" and he has always had time to squeeze us in for a visit--he does this for all his patients. He never treated us like numbers, in fact he's one of the few doctors who actually spends time talking to his patients. On several occasions, we have had medical problems that required more time than was scheduled and he ALWAYS made the extra time--NEVER rushed us out of his office. As a result of his caring, he frequently runs behind in his appointments, BUT that's because he CARES about each and everyone of his patients. read more
