This bookshop is another planet inhabited by characters out of books. It's beautiful, so well decorated, and hosts such wonderful events. We came to hear Queen Elsa host a story time event. She read Frozen and a Llama Llama book. My children loved it! And afterwards we spent over an hour just walking around and exploring. Everywhere you look is a handwritten note about a book, some mystical creature coming out of the walls, or a typewriter waiting for a story to unfold. The top floor even hosts a puzzle table and nooks to cuddle up and read. The children's section is simply magical. My kids would have stayed for hours if I let them. The pricing is also fair and the owner is a gem. She even has a little bookshop dog that greets everyone, Chestnut. read more

love love everything about this place ! from the outside decor to the book selections. The day I went there was a huge table full of free journals which were offered as we were welcomed in. There's a banned books section,a kids section, young adult, fiction, non fiction etc. I bought a sticker and a book of 15 short stories by latinx writers. As a Caribbean latina from NYC I appreciated who safe/comfortable I felt shopping around and noticed their BLM, LGBTQIA stickers around. read more

I LOVE bookstores. I could never pass a local bookstore. A strong supporter of the local community and local businesses. Customer service was great and the owner was incredibly gracious and helpful. She provided some suggestions of books for our daughter (1st grade) which we were not aware of prior to entering the bookstore. It was incredibly nice and helpful. I was able to pick up a new book, Talking to Goats, by Jim Gray. Looking forward to beginning this book in my travels this weekend. You can always order through Amazon. Or, you can stop by a local bookstore and purchase from there and support the local community. Look forward to visiting the next bookstore. read more

The bookstore is well stocked. The employee was very knowledgeable as well as personable. We went in and found the new Nicholas Sparks book that was released this week. It was a gift for a family member that loves his books. The store also sold bookmarks, cards, post cards, and a few gift items. I bought some cool post cards that were reproductions of vintage local post cards. I like bookstores like this much better than the ones inside a mall or box box store. read more

South Main Book Co. is truly the hidden gem of Downtown Salisbury. This quaint, locally owned bookstore is something quite magical, with special reading nooks, gorgeous mural work and textures galore. The staff is super friendly and extraordinarily helpful. On top of all that, this shop supports a wide variety local, community organizations and consistently serves as a platform to empower the people and the communities it serves. Recently purchased the RoCo deal that they had for Literary Book Post and the new co-owner helped my husband find what he wanted and helped him to use the two vouchers I purchased for the best deal. Also I was recently in and was quickly helped to find what I was looking for and after the girl helping me told where to find what I wanted she offered to go get it for me. As I took my kids downstairs to the "kids" area so my wife can roam around the other areas, I found awesome kid comics from Adventures of Tin Tin and loads of off-beat comics I ended up buying. Although I am not fond of most of my time spent growing up in backwater North Carolina, I will always fondly remember the Literary Bookpost at its two locations--the first location a rather cozy location on Main Street and the new location a large, spacious, and modern bookstore right across the street. I also fondly remember Mr. Deal Safrit and his excellent staff and their wonderful customer service. Mr. Deal would always make you feel at home and was so well read--he and I would have extremely educated conversations. I understand that Mr. Safrit has retired and sold the business; however, I will definitely come back to visit the next time I am in the hometown. People who still live in the area: come visit this store! It's a true gem in a sometimes otherwise dreary and decaying town. read more

I was excited at the prospect of perusing such a large bookstore. Then I hear a voice yelling at me, "whoa, what are you doing, you can't do that!" I was using my book Droid app to make a wishlist. I've done this in numerous book stores so I can keep up with what books I find and where I find them. This guy was RUDE! I understand he wants me to buy books there so they can keep their business running, but yelling across the store ISN'T the way to keep customers coming back. I live over an hour away and would need a valid reason to return, hence the wishlist. WON'T BOTHER RETURNING NOW! read more

Outstanding Bookstore in Salisbury, NC. My wife and I were visiting the Salisbury area and happened upon this cool bookstore. Everyone who enters the establishment is cheerfully greeted by a staff member and offered assistance. We were there just to order a book and be on our way. However, the rows of books are inviting and lure you deeper into the shelves. I found mention of the store on the internet but somehow got the impression that is was a small...hole-in-the-wall. Nothing could be further from the truth. This one great bookstore. It's clean, no dust on the shelves, and comfortable, seating is arranged throughoput. As someone who has been in numerous book stores, she still loved and raved about South Main. Would have been nice for the woman to greet me when I came in the door. That is twice not a word spoken. When I left walking out with my hands behind my back, all of the sudden--Can I help you? I came in with no purse or anything and left with the same. When I am looking at books sometimes I put my hands behind my back to bend over and read titles on the lower shelves. Not to steal anything. You know I used to shop there often, but this lady just doesn't want to get to know anybody. So sad. It was way better when Deal, Gary and Daphne were there. I read one review that stated that The Essence of Who I Am book is generic. It is simple and pure and rightfully so. Even in its simplicity, you have to go deep to determine the writer's intention: to get ourselves in an active role of advancement and The Essence of Who I Am build up nicely to that point. The author's intentions were great and insightful and it is no fault of hers that readers don't get the value from it as envisioned. People don't want to do the work, they want others to put everything on a platter for them. The author was brave and insightful enough to give only little, yet sufficient, that we may find our own motivation to better ourselves. Without your own excitement or spark for zest, there could be no action. Without action, there could be no results. This book was meant to be a self-starter. Gratitude is from many of us today. The Essence of Who I Am helped me to see its power and effects therewith in, and in the simplest form imaginable. I use this book as a tool to help many teens to look at their lives differently and to partake in an active role of planning their lives. The book is an easy read and has the right amount of information necessary to spearhead upward mobility by first understanding how to care for oneself, making a commitment to self, setting goals and embarking on constructive activities aimed at self-preservation (focusing on positive words, positive people, gratitude, and journaling). I have searched the Internet and nothing brought together the exact elements necessary to maintain purity of the heart and awareness like The Essence of Who I Am. It is the simplicity of this tool that has me in awe and propelled me on a path of advancement and happiness. The publisher failed to do just by the author, but the author has done just by her words.
