Love this place!!! Decided to meet up with a friend for coffee (well tea for me) and she suggested this place as 'the perfect spot'. And it was. I read through some of the other reviews and I want to set the record straight. Yes, it's inside a church but there is a separate entrance. Yes, there are Christian books but also other genres. Yes, the coffee is very affordable BECAUSE all the staff are volunteers. No one is getting paid and they LOVE what they do. All smiles and great service. The proceeds go to local and global missions of the church. Win, win all the way around. The place itself is very spacious. Two levels. The seating areas are comfortable and far enough apart you can have some semiprivacy if you need it. My friend who brought me says she comes here all the time to study (she's in college). All of the staff knew her by name. (love places like that) I'm not a coffee drinker so I can't really speak to the coffee (although my friend says it's pretty good). I am a tea drinker though and they have a variety of flavors, some refresher juice drinks, a few pastries. Please support. Every now and again if you're thinking of getting coffee or a pastry, choose them. Why not? Do some good for the community through others who are committed to giving back. read more

Such an interesting concept! I came here once for a coffee meeting with a new client so I wanted something that was public , yet quiet. After a quick google search I found this place to be close to my client and I so we just said why not. I was unaware that it was located inside the Mecklenburg County Community Church (which is not an issue for me!) but just a heads up if you're not aware. There is an upstairs and downstairs but I never went up to see what it looks like. However , downstairs was spacious and had an incredible book section. The books ranged from Christian to regular children's books, poetry , fiction , non fiction and much more. All the books are not related to religion but those that are not are appropriate for the environment to don't expect anything too risqué. The coffee was VERY reasonably priced. I was surprised at how affordable it was. All the proceeds go to supporting the church's local and global missions and I love supporting a good cause. read more

Attached to a local church, this bookstore offers a wide variety of books - mostly Christian and evangelical in tone - and some great coffee. There is an area to sit. relax, read, and enjoy your coffee. The staff is very friendly, and it's open to everyone. FYI: I am Catholic and not a parishioner. Ok so this caught us off guard and should be stated on their yelp page as a Christian Coffee Shop inside of a Church. We were just out Sunday morning and wanted to grab a coffee and look around a book store but come to find out this is not a book store. It only has book pertaining to Christianity. To each their own just would have liked to know that it was inside of a church. If you do want to attend church and grab a cup a coffee may be the perfect spot for you! I was looking for a coffee shop where I could sit down comfortably and do some work on my laptop. I found this coffee shop online and figured I'd help a good cause! I'm so glad I did. This coffee shop is huge and it has Christian music playing! It has a downstairs and upstairs and outside seating on both levels. Lots of comfy chairs and tables to accommodate everyone. I will be coming here more often now. Glad I found this place. Helping a great cause at the same time. read more

"Bookstore" is a little misleading because it is located on the campus of a church and only sells religious books, "NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT", to quote Jerry Seinfeld. Still the coffee drink I had was good. It was blazing hot outside so I took the suggestion of the barista and tried one of their frozen drinks made with Reese's cups. I wandered through the small book section trying to seem interested while she made my beverage. It's really to small to be considered a bookstore anyway. More like "small library for sale". Like I said, the drink was very good. I would go back for the coffee, but next time will know not to be expecting any military autobiographies or automotive maintenance books. read more

The staff are friendly, and the drink list is as extensive as the bookstore selection. On top of that, the drinks, snacks, and coffee are delicious- especially their seasonal options! There are plenty of comfy seats, both on the ground floor and in the loft. It's never super crowded on the weekdays, which makes it a great place to get some work done! Not only do they always offer our favorites consistently but they also have seasonal specialties that never fail to impress. The Grounds is also the perfect place to stop in to get some work or studying done during the week. The Grounds is more than a coffee shop. It's a "do life together with Jesus" shop. And it's more than just a bookstore. It's a "fill your mind and brain with the most important and worthwhile information" store. I'm lucky to be able to patronize The Grounds in all of its capacities -- as a customer of its wonderful drinks (Can I get a Salted Caramel White Chocolate Mocha, please?), as a customer of its spiritual resources (current read: "Keep it Shut" by Karen Ehman), and as a volunteer (I love serving there so much I agreed to be the team leader).
