Opening in 1993, South Pacific Private became Australia’s very first treatment centre equipped to treat addiction, trauma and mental health conditions in parallel – and to treat them within an integrated, holistic program that incorporates partners, friends and family. Our pioneering program brings together physical, psychological and emotional healing.
As a fully-accredited, 54-bed private hospital, South Pacific Private offers the very highest levels of clinical expertise. Every client is welcomed by a full team of specialists dedicated to providing wraparound support including medical detox, specialist nursing care, psychiatric assessment and treatment, counselling, psychotherapy, group therapy, educational lectures and ongoing, individualised case management.
As well as our comprehensive inpatient program, we offer day programs, online programs and a variety of specialised workshops for people who can't step away from family and work. We pride ourselves on accessibility and affordability, with most of our services covered by major private insurers.
History
Established in 1993.
South Pacific Private is a private mental health and addiction hospital overlooking Curl Curl Beach on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Founded in 1993 by Bill and Lorraine Wood, it was Australia's first fully integrated treatment centre for addiction, trauma and mental health conditions.
The Woods established the hospital after their own search for effective treatment led them to The Meadows in Arizona, home to Pia Mellody's pioneering work on childhood trauma and codependency. With The Meadows' support, they brought the program to Australia, where it has been continually refined in line with contemporary clinical research.
More than 14,000 clients and their families have been treated at South Pacific Private in the three decades since. Today, the Woods' daughters, Frances Hansen and Fleur Wood, continue the family's mission, building on their parents' legacy of care.
