I had gone to previous eye Doctor Who told me I had an eye infection. He gave me an eyedrop prescription however, my eyes continued irritated nothing helped so I called this office because I had previously gotten my glasses here. This doctor was amazing. He told me I do not have an eye infection. I just have allergies and that's what's causing my eyelids and my eyes to be come so red ashy and irritated. He was great. He knew I was paying out-of-pocket and gave me a small discount which helped. I also wanna add that when I first called this office and they were all booked but something became available and the young lady that works there called me back to let me know something was available later that day . read more

This review is long overdue as I have been a client of Dr. Hu for a few years now. He's a fantastic optometrist who takes his time to share his observations about your eye health, offer explanations, as well as provides plenty of resources to make the most suitable choice for yourself. Most recently, I noticed that I was running low on contacts and by low, I mean, I only had two days worth of contacts left. I frantically called in hoping to schedule a last minute appointment, as I needed contacts for work... and Coachella, but their weekend appointments were booked out for a month! Ahhh. Anyhoo, their office was so helpful and able to order an extra month's worth of contacts to cover my procrastination and get my life back in order. Couldn't be more thankful. I can't believe this place is in my neighborhood and hadn't used it sooner! even it is smaller than my previous optometry, their equipment is very high tech. I know a lot of people HATE getting their eye exam done, mostly because of the one that blows air in your eyeball to measure the pressure (anxiety to the max anyone?). But this place has the new technology that doesn't need to blow any air in your eye. All you need to do is to sit and relax. not only that, my ophthalmologist is so patience and detail. came here to use my VSP insurance...found this location and what a gem! inside is a bit small, but the staff worked me in quickly, and were very friendly. After the staff did the regular check up, Dr. Liem followed up with the final eye check. She answered all my questions, and was very friendly. I walked out feeling confident my eyes were healthy! she wrote a prescription for reading glasses, and they have a good selection in the store. Parking is easy and free in the front. After two annual visits over 15 months, I am very satisfied with Dr. Hu and his staff. I'm an active senior and appreciate the entire staff at South Pasadena Eye Care...and its easy parking! Seriously, Dr. Hu is very professional, and patiently explains his thought process (important to contact wearers!) in a relatable, understandable way. To be honest I was a bit afraid to go to a private optometrist due to the risk of higher pricing, however, the wonderful staff here truly made me feel so comfortable, everyone including Dr. Liem were informative and so kind when it came to my check up and answering all my questions, they provided thorough explanations but most importantly I didn't feel pressured or to make any upsold purchases. My friend advised me to visit this Optometry center, and I had a very good overall experience with Dr Lim and the eye examination. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, and has all of the most up to date optical equipment...very impressive technology they have available these days. Also had great service from Sharon, Amber and the other nice staff getting everything situated. They even made sizable adjustments to my damaged existing eye ware and prescription sunglasses at no charge. The environment is extremely clean and safe with COV19 prevention procedures and equipment in place. I just left South Pasadena Eye Care and I am so impressed by how personable the staff is, not to mention Dr. Hu was so easy to talk to and very informative. I went in because I have a small bump on the waterline of my left eye, and the way it looks bothers me. Dr. Hu went above and beyond. Not only did he take me in after I arrived 15 minutes late, but he gave me a thorough eye exam and explained to me in detail what could have caused it and what I need to do to make it go away. The staff is A+! When I made my initial phone call, they offered to look up my insurance information and told me what I needed to do to get this check-up covered, and also an eye exam covered at a later date so that I don't have to pay much out of pocket. After having an awful experience with lense Crafter and another optometry in Eagle Rock (high rated in Yelp and horrible service in reality), I found this place to finally be able to deliver what the other places couldn't. I wished I would have gone to this place from the beginning. Recommending this optometry to anyone who is expecting the most appropriate and fast procedure in ordering eyeglasses. Don't hesitate for a moment for choosing this place as you may end up going through hell by choosing a wrong place as I did. Very very crowded Paid $300 for special order lenses and sunglasses with another $300 due on delivery. They input my phone number incorrectly so could not contact me (although if they googled me they could have easily found my number). They totally screwed up my order by not advising me the sunglasses I picked could not get prescription lenses in them. I SPENT AN HOUR THERE WITH THEM PICKING OUT THESE GLASSES AND GETTING FITTED FOR THEM. Totally inexcusable and unprofessional. Way beyond just a mistake. Then I went there to get a refund which they processed incorrectly so I still haven't gotten my $300 back. So I had and am having a rotten experience and will never go back. Beware!! read more

**Caution: Due to the graphic nature of this review, reader's discretion is advised** First off...did you know you could get ulcers literally anywhere? Moreover, did you know you could get ulcers in, not on, INSIDE, your eyes? I did not know...and I did get them. One morning I woke up with what I thought was pink eye in both eyes. Gross I know. but my tale needs to be told. They were watery, itchy, and exposure to any sort of light ie. daylight, made me want to claw my own eyes out. Goes to say...it probably wasn't a good idea for me to force feed my eyes their contact lenses. I couldn't help it, I am practically legally blind and I had to work! Sidenote: i hadn't had my glasses updated since I first got contacts in 9th grade. My bad, I know. My boss obviously sent me to the optometrist next door because I looked like a public health announcement warning. The "doctor" was thee most insensitive, uncaring, unhelpful, and repulsive human being. She told me, verbatim, that I did not have pink eye, that I had ulcers, I should have seen it coming, I should not be wearing contacts, I should be wearing glasses, I might go blind, and that I needed a perscription for ulcer eye drops (?). In that order. She then proceeded to tell me that I would not be allowed to wear contacts for at least a week; and that I needed to be wearing glasses. I asked her how long it would take her to have new glasses ready..she replied..7 days. Ok..remember how I said I was basically legally blind? I was serious...I can barely see my hand in front of my face. I told her I had to work and drive, and if there was there any way she could have them ready any sooner. Nay. What am I supposed to do? Sit tight? So I leave her office shaking, still in pain, teary eyed, clutching a written precription that I couldn't drive to fill, and extremely scared. Some cold hearted bitch just basically told me I would lose my vision, and offered no reassurance or care. I'm curious as to when it is when doctors lose their humanity. Upon leaving, I call my friend who works at Sterling Optical, and that was when my story changed to a good one. She was absolutely disgusted at how I was treated and just simply sent on my way. She picked me up and took me straight to her office in South Pas.; Dr. Lu saw me immediately. Complete 180 from Bitch of the World; Dr. Lu confirmed that yes, I did have ulcers, and was surprised that I had not noticed them coming on because they were more serious than other cases he's seen. But reassured me that they would be gone in a couple days, with the drops he gave me that he had IN HIS OFFICE. He administered the first dosage, and I felt instant relief. Enough to subside the pain, sensitivity, and tearing. He said to go home, discard my case and current lenses; and also let me know that my glasses would be ready by noon the NEXT DAY. Dr. Lu was sooo caring, nice, healing, and reassuring; he was amazing. He never scolded me like a child, and also told me that there would have been little to no chance of me going blind and he didn't know why the other doctor would have said that. Dr. Lu has been my optometrist ever since and I absolutely love him. He's really nice, polite, mild mannered, and very helpful. But most importantly, he's super honest. I told him I wanted Lasik, which would mean he would lose my business, and instead of trying to convince me not to; he told me the truth. My eyes have progressively become worse each year because I am still "young"...and that I was still growing (how fucking big am I gonna get!!?), which means my eyes will continue to change until about 25 or 26. He told me that my prescription needed to be steady for at least 2 years before I would be a desired candidate for Lasik. I would definitely recommend him and his practice to everyone; he's amazing. He has definitely renewed my faith in doctors. read more

I have to give Sterling Optical five stars, because I was searching forever, (literally months,) for a doctor who would let me fill my contact lens prescription online. True, California law requires eye doctors to provide you a copy of your contact lens prescription. However, most eye doctors want to force you to order with them, so they charge very high rates for an "exam only." I contacted over 50 eye doctors, in and around Los Angeles, and the average rate for an eye "exam only," was $169. Some places tried to trick me, by giving me a lower price of $69. Then, when confirming my appointment, they would inform me of the extra "contact lens" or "prescription copy" charge of $100. One eye doctor's office wasted my time, by not telling me the true price, until I already was at the appointment. Unfortunately, this was my longtime eye doctor, (Dr. Linden in Pasadena,) who I had gone to for decades; but I will never do business with this eye doctor's office again, ever. Sterling Optical charged me a flat rate of $89, and gave me a contact lens prescription for four different types of lenses.
