Lauren (the owner) is very kind and I so appreciate that this practice offers a sliding scale. I think they could be a wonderful fit for many people. However, if you are going through IVF or any fertility treatment that is more medicalized (i.e., more conventional medicine), I would not recommend this practice. I felt very judged (I was told that "IVF is horrible") and so found another practice that has been immensely supportive of my IVF journey. read more

I've been going to this clinic for almost 15 years, followed them wherever they set up shop. Even since moving from Philly to San Diego, I make it a point to stop in and get a tune-up whenever I'm visiting home. I swear it seems like I've had a 7 year nap whenever I leave. In the past, after working with Lauren using acupuncture and herbal formulas, I've seen my iron shift positively away from anemic levels as well as almost vanished extremely painful and irregular periods. I had 1 visit for jaw pain/headache and am floored that I already have a significant reduction in pain after 1 treatment with Justine. The treatment area is peaceful and clean and there's a cute little store front with supplements. I've had a few sessions at other places in Philly but haven't had the same immediate results that I did with Justine. I will definitely be coming back as recommended for the next few weeks. Price wise and setup wise, the "community" setting is closer to what others do for semi-private sessions. You have your own table with a sheer curtain between you and there is room for 4 people at a time. I've been where community settings are 8 people at a time for $20-40 so you are getting more personalized attention for a higher price point. I personally think $60 is a fair price for the setting and they do mention a sliding scale. Fsa cards can also be used as payment. I had an amazing experience here the other day that I have not had at other acupuncture places. The environment is so warm and lovely, and even though you receive treatment in a group setting, everything felt completely personalized and private. Lauren was my acupuncturist and I loved her energy and felt like she really listened to me. I was very stressed and anxious going into the treatment dealing with life stuff, and I left completely relaxed. I literally could feel my nervous system downshift during my treatment and this feeling has stayed with me 24 hours later. I used to be a bit skeptical of acupuncture -- however, when you have an ailment that doesn't seem to be getting fixed by a more mainstream specialist, people in pain will try pretty much anything. After trying acupuncture twice thru a practitioner at my PCPs office, I actually thought I was feeling the benefits --- but it cost a whopping $100 per session! I found SPC and love the way they offer more affordable care via a sliding scale for payment according to your income. SO much more doable on my budget! When you arrive, you'll instinctively know to talk in a light whisper, even at the reception desk. When you're lead back into the community treatment room, you're asked to leave your shoes on a mat up front, shown where to grab water or tea on your next visit (and offered the restroom) and ushered into a dim room where others are lying or sitting just chilling and letting their treatment do its job. I've now seen Eva twice, and she is great! Not only is she very nice, she took the time to read my intake paperwork and ask me for a few details to help decide what to work on each session. My main issue is an old foot and ankle injury. However, I have sinus problems too - so both were addressed in one session, which I love! The community room is relaxing, even though there are other people in there with you everyone maintains the quiet or light whispering. The room is warm (you're offered a heat reflective blanket though - take it! You might sneak in a nap!) and music is playing quietly in the background. Also, pretty sure there's some sort of aromatherapy going on, which is also pretty nifty. If you're a bit nervous about the community thing - seriously, it's no big deal! Everyone's there to get some kind of relief -- but you can always book a private appointment your first time out to get used to it. Just remember to wear loose comfy clothes to allow access to treatment areas & bring exact cash/check for the appointment. I have been to SPCA over a dozen times and have seen almost every practitioner there. More often than not I've had really great experiences and have recommended several friends and family to give it a whirl. I typically see Vito--who is awesome! Incredibly nice and very attentive. Understandably, prices have raised recently and booking appointments isn't as easy as it once was (maybe I recommended it to too many people! haha!!) The place is small with only 2 chairs & 2 tables in the communal setup (although I hear they are expanding!). This group setting doesn't typically bother me but sometimes it can be noisy. I have found the young man who works the reception to be incredibly friendly and charming but have had the opposite experience with the girl who works there occasionally. All in all, a great value! I would like to take a moment to write about acupuncturist Justine Pileggi, and how instrumental she has been to my healing process. In August 2018, I began suffering severe joint pain and inflammation symptoms, as well as other scary symptoms that eventually led to a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis. Pre-diagnosis, I began coming to Justine, thinking that my swollen left knee was an injury sustained through overuse as a former "fitness nut". Throughout every appointment, Justine's genuinely calm, caring, and professional demeanor made me feel comfortable, knowing that I was in very good hands. My knee swelling always decreased shortly after my appointments, and my symptoms were not as severe. Now that I am in remission, I have been given the green light by my rheumatologist to return to acupuncture. Since my return, Justine has worked on my overall immune response, my knees, and even my allergies. After each appointment, my knee pain and stiffness has melted away, and I haven't experienced an allergy attack since she worked on me on a day when I was struggling with seasonal allergy symptoms. I am in Philly on the weekends, and was so excited when my boyfriend introduced me to this place, which is just a short walk from his house. I went to my first acupuncture session, kind of on a whim, about a year ago, because I had been frustrated with the solutions that traditional medicine had given me. A year later I'm happy to report that I look forward to my sessions and have seen marked improvement in my overall health. went for my first ever acupuncture appt. Vito took his time asking questions and came across as thoughtful and discerning. He asked me questions that were right on track with issues I hadn't thought to write down or bring up. The needles did not hurt, could barely barely feel them when they were inserted and absolutely couldn't feel them after that. I went into labor on the acupuncture table after my third labor-inducing acupuncture session. I was 40 weeks and 1 day...and had 5 days left until I was scheduled to get my water broken to toss me into labor because my OB wouldn't let me go beyond 41 weeks because I was trying for a VBAC. I had never gone into labor for my first because she was breech. So I didn't even know what labor felt like. I had tried a different acupuncturist prior to this who had never done labor induction before and got a recommendation to come here. These women are experts at it--not to mention they were soothing, very positive about me being close to labor and supportive. And then...I went into labor. I was pretty sure when I left I was in labor...and now after the yelp review, they'll know 15 1/2 hours later, I delivered a healthy baby girl. (It would have been much quicker if she didn't insist upon being born with her arm and hand above her head!!). I'd recommend this place to anyone and you cannot beat the price. I was a little worried about finding parking during the day in Passyunk but it was a breeze and it gave me a chance to stop in B2 and get a sandwich and smoothie for lunch right after. read more

I just relocated to Philly from NYC, and was heartbroken to leave my last acupucture center of 4 years (shout out to Olo Acupuncture in Chelsea, they are modern-day healers). Pleased to report that SPCA is an excellent replacement, and Lauren is wonderful. This will be a weekly treatment for me going forward. New client paperwork was available online, so I took care of that before my appointment. The receptionist was kind and pleasant, and the space is clean, quiet and zen. The treatment room is on the small side, but Lauren's astute assessment and combo therapies (acupuncture, infrared, and moxibustion) had me in lala land so quick that the space was irrelevant. Other clients were considerate, which helped. Prices are sliding scale based on income, and more than reasonable considering the use of multiple therapies if needed. I'm working with Eva to relieve pain from my neck & shoulders, as well as bring back some "happy hormones" after my anxiety-causing divorce. Eva is extremely sweet and attentive. I called them Saturday night late, a very polite helpful young lady called me back Sunday 9 am .they saw me Monday 5 min ahead of my appointment. Front desk women was most helpful and pleasant as well.. The owner Lauren personally did my session and wow she is just so nice and very detailed..she spent several minutes going over my problem areas and explaining her treatment ..she seemed genuinely concerned about her patients and there well being. I'm a big fan of alternative medicine and this wasn't my first acupuncture treatment, but by far my most rewarding. just walking into this clinic is healing, they obviously understand how atmosphere effects our ability to receive care. it is unbelievably quiet/peaceful, and calming! I saw Lauren and was amazed by how easy it was to let her assess me, and treat me. never has the sight of a needle been accompanied by such warmth and appreciation. The treatment helped me in deeper ways than I set out for, I noticed my body changing and shifting for the next few days, nothing i minded at all, my energy increased and I felt some soreness that made me more aware of parts of my body i usually neglect (abdominal/pelvic). She is well credentialed and immediately put me at ease by explaining exactly what would happen and thoroughly delving into my history.
