Brittany at Renew Acupuncture is the absolute best! I cannot recommend her enough. I came to Brittany struggling with knee pain that had been persisting for over 6 months and was making me absolutely miserable. As a avid exerciser, I did my best to slow down but I was eager to get back to my normal routine. I had been doing physical therapy for several months and although it was started to help, I was starting to think that I would never be able to get back to squatting heavy again without paying for it with a flare up for days. My PT (who is also awesome) recommended giving Brittany a try to help release some of my chronically tight muscles. If I met Brittany in Salem, MA in 1692, or as a villager in a Monty Python skit, I might have recommended she be hanged, because she obviously has magic in her fingertips. Full disclosure: I am a friend of Brittany's and have not (yet!!) been to her for acupuncture. But the other day I had this horrible kink in my shoulder/neck and could barely turn my head to the left so I asked Brittany for help. She showed me a pressure point on my left hand and told me to press it while she massaged my shoulder. I didn't even need to tell her where the kink was - she intuitively went right to the exact spot. She said she wished she had her needles with her because she'd be able to fix it immediately, but her knowledge alone of how the body works and responds to pressure points turned out to be enough because after just 2 or 3 minutes with her magical hands, my kink was COMPLETELY 100% GONE. I couldn't, and can still hardly, believe it. I have had years and years of various treatments (including acupuncture) for my chronic back/muscle spasms, and never in my life has anyone actually fixed a problem spot immediately. Nor has anyone ever done as much as Brittany did in just 5 minutes to explain what she was doing and why, give me advice to help myself, and share her knowledge. Unfortunately I don't live in Philly, and Brittany didn't accept my marriage proposal, but I am absolutely going to make an acupuncture appointment with her the next chance I get. read more

My mother suffers from pretty bad arthritis and has been to Renew a couple times now after a recommendation from a friend. She's been seeing doctors about it for years to no avail, and complained about the pain constantly. It was kind of annoying. Anyway, she told me she'd been going to Renew for a few weeks and it was the first time she'd even felt any kind of positive change, so for that alone I'm glad. I've always been kind of cynical about the idea of randomly jabbing people with needles, but if something works, I'm all for it! Anyway, I'd been suffering with depression for a while (lost my house, job and dog all around the same time -- what the hell, right?) and when I was in town to see my mom, she recommended I try acupuncture to maybe feel happier. Again, I'm a total skeptic, so I thought this was a terrible idea, but she was paying, so why not? My first thought upon meeting Brittany was "Whoa! You're not a tiny, old Asian man!" I'll admit I was a little disappointed, which is weird because 99% of the time, I prefer meeting energetic, attractive women to tiny, old Asian men. But I've got to say that Brittany seemed to know exactly what she was doing, and was excellent at putting me at ease with what would otherwise be a very weird procedure. More importantly, she answered all my questions with clarity and left me feeling like there actually was some kind of scientific backing to where she was jabbing me. And for the record, I never actually felt any of the needles puncture my skin. It was almost a disappointment in a sense, as I'd always thought acupuncture bordered on masochism. But no, as its fans have said for years, the treatment actually *is* really relaxing. As to whether or not it worked to treat my mood, that was harder to tell. I was actually in a kind of worse mood the night of the acupuncture, which left me confused. But the next morning, I noticed a perceptible optimism and extra energy (endorphins, maybe? whatever.) and felt pretty damned good for the rest of the week. It's kind of thing that's hard to gauge, but several times when I was feeling particularly good I thought "Wow, I really do feel Renew'd" so I'll give credit where it's due. And my mom loves it, so between us, I'll give a full five stars. read more

I've had a few treatments at Renew for digestive issues...constipation and stomach pain. After seeing a gastro dr and them telling me there was not much they could do I decided to try acupuncture. I had three treatments in total and feel much better! I am not very afraid of needles, but I felt very much at ease while I was being treated especially because Brittany explained what was going on and why the placement of certain points would effect my digestion. Brittany is nothing short a miracle worker. I was having significant problems with my quad after experiencing what I thought was sciatic nerve damage from picking up heavy things the wrong way. I basically couldn't feel half of my right leg down to the knee. The numbness quickly turned into sharp stinging sensations whenever I ran though - being a regular runner, this was not good. Anyways, I went and saw Brittany with hopes that she could help alleviate some of the bizarre sensations that I was experiencing. During the treatment, which is called trigger point dry needling, I immediately noticed the muscles in my leg jump and release. Kind of funny feeling at first, but I'm happy to say that I've regained the feeling in my leg and I haven't experienced any shooting pains since. i am three sessions into acupuncture, and already feel a measurable difference.. as a person with a rare auto immune disease, i have chronic pain, headaches, nausea, and sometimes immobility. i am no stranger to trying any form of alternative medicine, medication, or any crazy idea that could potentially help! in 2009, i tried acupuncture twice a week for 4 months, i didn't see much of an improvement. since then, i have tried over 3 exploratory procedures, close to 7 daily pain/inflammatory drugs, massage, bio feedback, and physical therapy. i get temporary (1-2 days) relief and mobility from most therapies, and felt it wasn't practical for the long run. i decided to give acupuncture a second try, and i am so happy i did! brittany really listens, and asks the right questions, which is refreshing, and also makes the experience more at ease. today was my third visit, and i am feeling a difference in mobility which i have yet to feel from another therapy or drug. i am hoping the treatments continue to help and improve my "normal" overall. on a complete side note, i was extremely stuffed up during today's visit, nasal sprays and cold medicines weren't helping. brittany did a treatment to relieve the congestion, and i feel so much better. move over, afrin nasal spray. coming next time i am sick!! read more
