I grew up on the South River with old skis and was stoked to see this rental company available while home visiting. The staff are fast and efficient. The skis look new-ish and operated well enough, topping out at 45 mph. I only subtract a star overall because the website doesn't mention that you have to stick with a guide and in a group. I wanted to take my partner down the South River where it's flat and fun to rip corners and explore. With this group, we had to head toward the Chesapeake where it's choppier and can have more boat traffic. That said, calm weather and early days mitigate some choppiness, and boat wake can make for fun jumps for experienced riders, so we still had a great time. There's plenty of space to open up where they took us, but I was happy to spend my time jumping and cornering vs long distance exploring. I was worried we'd be stuck with the slowest rider in the group but our guide was very aware and adaptive, getting us out there quickly ahead of the slower riders. An hour is plenty of time for a great session! For the price though, an option to be self-guided (perhaps if you have a MD boating license), seems warranted. Note: it looks like other customers weren't as lucky as me with the guide. I had a younger gentlemen who smartly assessed who knew what they were doing and let us really get after it. He was very good on his ski and provided immediate support if someone fell off or looked like they needed help. read more

Both the guys running the place where friendly and made us feel welcomed. This information was never communicated to me when I made the booking, and I was left feeling both confused and frustrated. What made things even worse was that they did not offer any refunds, even though the misunderstanding was clearly on their end. Don't waste your money. We had a 2-hour rental scheduled for 4pm. We were told to arrive at least 30 minutes prior or we could lose our reservation. Finally, at 5pm, an hour late, we were getting on the water because it hadn't occurred to anyone there that they might need to fill the jet skis with fuel after multiple uses. We couldn't stay until 7pm, so we came in off the water at 6pm, the originally scheduled end time. We asked for money back for the hour we were not able to use due to their error (not inexpensive!) or at the very least a store credit for the two hours. "We'll call you," was the promise. So far, no call from anyone. Can't say I would do it again anyway. It's "guided" which means a guy scolds you at the start of your rental, rather aggressively, about how all these other people have been irresponsible and, "If anything happens to my machine, you'll owe me $15,000!" Okay... Good sales pitch. I'm all warm and fuzzy. Let's ride! (And remember this is after they were an hour late in this instance.) Once on the water, you get about a half-mile to run around in. No, that part isn't advertised. And if you push the envelope slightly, your loving "guide" is there to remind you. (Sheesh!) As I said, don't bother. read more

Very limited area you can go, maybe less than a mile run (takes 5 minutes, then you have to turn around). You had to stay on the left side only so you couldn't really explore at all. Staff was great, and I'm all about being safe. I just wish I went in with open eyes. If I had to rate the hours of my life, the hour I just spent on a jet ski would be towards the top. I don't know if I've ever had so much fun. As for the rental, everything was very smooth! They have an offer of $25 off per ski if you leave before 12 on the weekend, so we took advantage of that and got two skis for three people (they no longer let 3 people on one ski anyway). At 10am, it was gorgeous! Only one other ski went out with us so we pretty much had the water to ourselves for a half hour. Then more came out and some more boats were starting to go around, but it was by no means crowded. There are two main areas you can ride around in, both on the river and pretty big. An hour to explore both was maybe a tiny bit too long, but it was so fun jumping around on the jet ski it didn't matter! Mine topped out at 50/mph and it was truly a blast - I felt like a kid on Christmas! Based on the reactions of some of the other families that came out later, they did too (lots of yelling and laughing)! We arrived 30 minutes prior and they have you fill out your safety test, put your stuff in a cubby (no locks but employees are always there) and off we went. Would definitely recommend this place to do the rentals and would highly recommend renting a jet ski, even if just for 30 minutes! If you love going fast and enjoying beautiful sunny weather, this is literally now my #1 favorite thing to do (it was my first time). read more

For the jet ski rental, you're confined to a very limited distance that after 20 mins is very boring and not worth the $150 per hour. I wish I knew that beforehand. The people working here all seemed to be having the worst day of their lives and were quite gruff. I assume they've been burned by customers in the past actually damaging the jet skis bc they heavily warned/threatened us, and lots of limitations. First time here today and I couldn't have been more pleased. Staff was friendly, informed, and helpful. I trusted that the equipment was in fine, working order. Even with my girlfriend on board, I was able to reach 50mph+, which was awesome in open water. And there was plenty of open water to tear up! Staff were extremely disrespectful and do not know what they are doing. Owners provided an excuse as to where the confusion supposedly occurred but were not available to resolve the issue. Emails went unanswered and they pocketed the profits. If you are just looking to rent equipment and know what you're doing, go ahead and book with this place. Make sure that when you show up you share the details of your reservation with staff. There's a chance they will not pay attention to the booking you've paid for and ask you to come in ahead of schedule. Staff will passively aggressively try to get you back on the water to avoid having to issue a refund for the time cut short. Well maintained Yamaha jet skis, nice view, and a restaurant on the water overlooking the pretty view! What more can you ask for? We rented 3 jet skiis for one hour online. The online rental process went smoothly and the check-in process was pretty smooth as well. We took a test prior to operating the jet skiis to make sure that we know the safety rules. Our guide Emily was very attentive as she led us to the area where we could jet ski freely. There is a 15 minute idle time back and forth from the dock; but once you get into the jet ski area it's vroom vroom. The Jet skiis can go pretty fast and my family had a blast. The owner of the jet skiis is a really friendly and understanding guy. My husband and I have ridden jet ski before in the OBX but this place is hands down our favorite spot to jet ski. It was my son's first time operating the jet ski and I'm so glad that I took him here instead of anywhere else. The best part is that they have very clean and spacious bathroom with showers in case you want to freshen up and change your clothes after riding the jet ski before heading out to dinner. We highly recommend South River jet skiis. It turned out to be a magical birthday and wedding anniversary celebration. read more

Im a cinematographer and I come all the way from Woodbridge Virginia to jet ski here. I jetski pretty often to capture footage so I know a quality pwc when I see one. The south river offers a wide open course that's fun and easy to navigate for anyone. Great for kids as well. The staff is great especially with me having to set up my equipment. They were easy to get in touch with - always answered the phone. I went online to check out the marina and then called because I had questions. The girl I spoke with on the phone was very knowledgably, confident and nice. The price was fair for an hour rental and the marina was nice....we went through the restaurant and would have eaten there after our ride had we not already had reservations elsewhere. My only complaint is that they do not advertise that it is guided - which was fine because all that meant was that two staff members are monitoring you while you are out and about but not leading you around. But it took 10 to 15 minutes to idle out to where you could actually open up the throttle because of being a no wake zone (which boats did not seem to heed) but more importantly you were only allow to jet ski between two buoys (number 16 to 12)....and only to the left side of these buoys. (which is still a lot of space) This would be fine if it was advertised this way. I had hopes to get to EGO alley from Pier 7 marina just to tour around, or at least to the Naval academy as a destination but we were only able to travel back and forth between the two buoys which in their defense was about 4 miles. then when we got back at the end of the ride and I mentioned to the guide that it was disappointing that you could only go to buoy 12. He said oh you could go thru buoy 12 to 11 which would have added another mile.....during the starting explanations the guide had said you could go to 12 (not thru 12). I still very much enjoyed my time and the price...just would have like to have known the real deal prior. They could simply advertise that the rental space to ski is from the South River Marina to the mouth of Bay - I feel that would be very clear for anyone that was looking at a map from the marina to the bay. When I arrived they were quick and efficient with getting me and my family tested and prepared yo hit the jet skis. I called to book a one hour jet ski fun time, I was never told that I needed cash to pay, we got there on time but had to go to the bank to get cash. Upon returning, we already got almost half the time of our 1 hour already gone. I gave one of the employees $140 expecting $15 or so back, she told me that I was entitled to a $20 discount and handed me a $20 bill back instead of $40 (normal price $120 plus tax gave her $140, I ended up paying the normal price). I only realized the error after the fact and couldn't call back because there was no evidence to present to them having paid cash. The supervisor made a rude remark that his worker needed to give me a thorough instruction as though I wasn't able to grasp basic notions of running a jet ski. I tried to make the experience as pleasurable as possible because I wanted to treat my kids and didn't want to ruin the day after driving 1.30 hour to get there. I did not rate the fun I got for riding the jet ski because the credit should be given to the manufacturer, I only rated the customer service which was frankly mediocre. Great place. Some COVID issues if you care: FYI - they did not wipe down jet skis in between use. Perhaps there is some reason such as salt water? I'd prefer a wipe down anyway. This review is for their pontoon boat. We inquired about their jet ski rentals at first and found out that they had a pontoon boat. Which we decided to book instead. It was easy to book, they answered all our questions. My husband was the captain and they went through a whole safety lesson and a quick tutorial of the boat. The team was great! We were 6 adults and a baby. We fit comfortably and still had room to move around. We brought our own water floats and a paddle board. We had a great time and the staff was super helpful and friendly. The only think we did not know prior to renting the boat was that we had to fill up the gas tank before returning it. I planned a group activity (a group of 11 people). The customer service from the manager/owner was horrible. We were told before taking the jets on the water, they were looked over for any scratches. However, no one looked before we left shore. When we came back to the shore, the manager instantly began fussing and yelling at us telling us we were in an accident with the jets, which is 100% a lie. While we were enjoying ourselves on the water, as we paid to do, we remained safe the entire time. We also had an instructor with us on the water the entire time; she NEVER mentioned anything to us about us being unsafe. When she reported to the owner, that we weren't in accident, he continued to insist we were in an accident and refused to give us our deposit back. Waitresses from the restaurant came to observed what was occurring and instantly called the police on us without any prior knowledge of what had taken place. After several minutes of going back and forth with the manager/owner on how he falsely accused us of wrong doing, he finally gave us our deposit back and told us to NEVER COME BACK while calling us Bitches.
