I had cataract surgery in both eyes. I was completely covered through my insurance company yet before surgery I was getting told I will not have surgery unless I pay almost $300. They sent me to an ophthalmologist first which I did not ask for. So that's on them I asked for my records I would go elsewhere. I should have stuck to that but chose to stay with them once they eliminated the $300 charge. They seem to do this quite often. I went for my last post op visit after my second surgery and I'm getting bills for it! Now they're threatening to take me to collections. Stay away from this place. One doesn't know what the other one is doing. If the cataract surgery you don't need so many post-op visits they want me to come back in 6 months are you serious! I am sorry I ever went here. Dr LASIk was not friendly abrupt didn't care how I felt didn't care about what I said, or I felt I'm sure she is medically qualified, but she had her own agenda and when I was ready to go back to work, she said you'll go tomorrow and I told her I still didn't feel well enough to go. First visit for my granddaughter. My daughter asked me to accompany them. Tech Nash greeted us and said I had to go back to a waiting room even though my daughter told her it was her first time here. The person just redirected me to the back without any empathy and said I told you before to go in the back and didn't show me where. She said I cannot have you here. "Like I said you can sit in the back". How rude. Definitely NOT a warm and fuzzy place. It's like a factory. Will not be going back. For my first time here how rude she treated my family. She was not friendly at all. She started the test without even speaking to my daughter about why she came. When my daughter told her she was nervous about the appointment she showed no care and questioned it as if it wasn't a big deal. But it was to us. The doctor acted as if our questions didn't matter and as if we were not even there; none of my questions mattered. When I asked if my daughter was near sighted his reaction was "I never said that" instead of explaining . He tried to be friendly to her and did okay with that but did not explain anything to the family. Overall I was not happy with the bedside manner and I question myself about going back there. I had a bad experience with LASIK surgery by Dr. Flicker. My surgery was performed in September 2021. Pre-op went well and I felt comfortable moving forward with the procedure. During the operation a disc that is used to stabilize my right eye popped out. Both Dr. Flicker and the surgical tech seemed surprised. After several tries and trying different size discs, it was in my eye. Surgery moved forward. While finishing up on my left eye, Dr. Flicker accidentally scratched my cornea. Both eyes had received local anesthetic, so I didn't immediately realize any discomfort or pain. That changed quickly. Severe irritation. Recovery took much longer than expected. I had several follow up visits. I was having a lot of dryness, especially in the mornings. Also, have difficulty seeing while driving at night. Halos around traffic and streetlights. Trouble seeing lines on highway, especially when raining. I went to several follow ups and was assured my eyes would slowly feel better. However, night vision glasses were suggested. I was warned that a slight prescription may be needed in some cases. The dryness is still a problem. I must use lubricating drops each morning to sooth discomfort. Today I finally came for my last follow up post-op appointment. An appointment that was suggested by Dr. Flicker and was told they don't accept my new insurance. I was told by receptionist, I could pay $160 out of pocket. I said, "I thought this was part of the expensive I paid out of pocket for LASIK in the first place." She said the was the case. I paid over $5000 for the surgery. I did not elect to have follow up, the surgeon requested it. Insurance was never factored into the equation. read more

Dr. Flicker and Dr. Lane misdiagnosed my wife and told her that she was fine and her eye was drooping due to her age. She went back twice and was given the same response. Finally she got another opinion and the the new ophthalmologist said, "If your eye was dropping due to aging wouldn't there be a lot of one eyed drooping people walking around?" One day later, MRI, 1 hour later we found out she had a Giant aneurism behind her left eye. We have a lawyer and a pediatric neurosurgeon in the family who both encouraged us to proceed with a FAILURE TO DIAGNOSE LAWSUIT. The main reason was because of the culture of how the organization operates and that others could be hurt. After a huge brain surgery my wife survived. Do yourself a favor and pass on South Shore, you may live to tell about it. read more

My family has had 5-6 visits. We have had billing issues 3-4 times. For the same visit YOY, my OOP more than doubled. After talking to my insurance, they said the issue was due to their coding. The office staff was unwilling to call the insurance company and conference me in based on policy. I was unable to call and conference them in because I was on a cell phone. They didn't care and would prefer to lose our service. Furthermore, I have a young child with special needs. Her last visit went really bad and had to request someone else to evaluate her. Got a secret d option from another doctor in massapequa. He said you defiantly don't have cataracts, I have 20 25 Vision, and your eyes are very healthy. 4 years later I got a style in my eye. Wasn't able to get into eye care place I. Massapequa, and was able to get into South Shore Eye Care. The doctor gave me a prescription for the style. And said I need to see you in three weeks cause you have cataracts. DONT TRUST THIS PLACE. AVOID THIS PLACE!!! Ohh and I forgot. They pack you in like sardines. I went in for an annual eye exam with an additional $60 fee for a new eyeglass prescription. Had my new glasses made and the prescription was horribly wrong. Optician made them as written. Went back to SSEC for a recheck and they could not figure out what they did wrong. All they could do was give me a "new" prescription (maybe) identical to my old glasses. I have never ever had a problem at another ophthalmologist or optometrist (even at the Mall) before. So now I am out of pocket for the new glasses I apparently didn't need and they didn't even refund me the $60 for the new prescription fee. Never again. read more

I went to see a dr because i had a chalazion in my eye. My eye was draining and uncomfortable. It got better but was still draining. I called back and they put me in for an emergency appt with another "dr" and she really wasn't that helpful. I just went on the website and i see she's an optometrist. They never told me that!!!!!!! They said dr lane is not there but we can let you see another dr. There's nothing wrong with my EYESIGHT!!!!! I don't need glasses, i have an infection and they should have given me a follow up with an MD, not optometrist. They lied to me!!! read more

Every year they bill me for something my insurance covers and every year I have to argue with the billing department who just makes excuses and never takes responsibility. Oops sorry we didn't call you. Last straw, My daughter had a 9:15am app. figured how backed up could the doctor be so early. Well 1 1/2 hours later my daughter was finally seen by The Prince I mean Doctor. This will be our last visit to this practice as they have repeatedly shown their lack of respect for their patients.
