I truly do not understand the negative reviews of this place! I came here recently for cataract surgery and had an amazing time (or as amazing as surgery can possibly be!). I only waited about 30 minutes after my arrival time to be taken into pre-op. During that time I spoke with the billing department (private rooms) and paid my deductible and coinsurance. They answered any questions I had. My ONLY unpleasant experience was the billing person who called me the day prior to my surgery who had the nastiest attitude and played dumb when I asked the same questions I ended up receiving answers to on the day of my surgery. The nurses in the back (Maura was my pre-op nurse) are incredible. So friendly. They check on you constantly without being overbearing. The orderlies who take you to the laser room then the OR are friendly and polite. My recovery nurse (Fiona) was phenomenal and made sure I felt good and ready to go. I elected to not be wheeled out to the car and she allowed me to walk alongside her, which I found nice since a lot of places pretty much force you to use a wheelchair post-op. The waiting room is huge. It's only cold near the door to outside. If you sit further away from there, I promise you will not be cold. Plenty of parking although it was a bit icy due to a recent storm. Easy to get to, right off the Northern State. Amazing facility! read more

Today I had the worst experience at this facility! I took my elderly mother who has expressive aphasia to this facility, and I regretted coming here. The initial staff member that I checked in with was pleasant. After a two hour wait here, I get to the room for them to verify my mother's procedure, and after a series of questions, the surgical coordinator leaves the room. A tall man with dark brown hair comes in, doesn't introduce himself , and starts asking my mother questions about her procedure. Due to her language impairment, she had trouble answering. I am then told after waiting for two hours and missing a day of work (as a healthcare provider myself), that they will not take her, and that I needed a healthcare proxy for them to do the procedure. They never communicated or verified and health conditions in the phone call check-in prior to her visit. I was told this was a simple laser procedure from her eye doctors office. They ONLY verified covid symptoms and current travel. I asked for a manager and then was bombarded by two additional staff members who claimed to be managers, without them providing their names. The male manager was very defensive stating "just because you say you are her healthcare proxy, doesn't make it true". I've been my mother's caregiver since the changes in her health. Her doctor knows this, but they did not bother to verify this. I wasted a day coming here. The bottom line, they were more concerned with legality than actually taking responsibility for their lack of competence/communication or PATIENT CARE. They also had additional delays there due to an HVAC failure. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! read more

Came today for upper eye lid surgery, with Dr Peter Wong. Check in was seamless, greeted by the desk person, onto the check in person, answered all my questions, spoke of insurance, pick up time, and procedure time. Back to wait area and was quickly called in and met with the nurse. All of my items were locked in a locker, signed a document affirming location and items. Then off to the a surgical chair, went over the procedure, name of doctor, etc. so informative and everyone so far was helpful and compassionate. Surgery was successful, everyone in the operating room introduced themselves, and what they would be doing. Room was clean and bright. Woke up in recovery and the most pleasant surgery I have had. The place was clean, the staff were professional and attentive. Kudos everyone for doing a great job and so glad I came to this location for my surgery. Thank you. read more

This was my first experience coming here. What a fabulous center! The staff was terrific, so attentive and caring. From the moment I walked in, I knew the surgical center was many steps ahead of the hospital where my first cataract surgery was performed. As I sit here waiting for my husband to complete his second surgery on the same eye because as the doctor says "it happens" , I could not help but notice these two signs . Maybe if they were warm , welcoming and professional they would not need them !!!! I had left eye cataract surgery here in 2024, upon my on time arrival I was greeted by a middle aged lady - nursing assistant and ordered to go through a door into the surgical prep area, It was an early Feb. morning, and cold, so I had a thick coat on. The angry employee started yelling at me that I should have left it in the car, she went on to 'bark' at me that if I had read the facility instructions I would have known that. Here I am a patient paying for a premium lens and laser surgery, nervous as heck and getting screamed at for wearing a coat, nuts!! No bedside manner here. Had a laser cataract procedure done by my ophthalmologist here. The staff are all professional and caring. I was nervous and the nurse helped calm my fears. The nicest nurse was the one in recovery. I wish I remembered her name. She showed a lot of compassion and care with me. Expect to be here at least 3 hours from time of arrival to leaving. The procedure itself took the least amount of time. Wish they could seed things up a bit. Very clean place and lots of parking. Highly recommend this place. A week later they called making sure all went well at their center and that I went for my post-op visit with my ophthalmologist/surgeon. read more

Island Eye had the most pleasant staff! Everyone we met was super helpful and caring - from the front desk to the check in person to the anesthesiologist to all the nurses. The facility is state of the art and has a comfortable waiting area for family. There was only one thing that needs improvement - the transportation company they use for patients who require it could be better. Both the morning and afternoon drivers were late. Hopefully, they can find a better transportation company. read more

Helping my elderly mother with surgery recently --- and the "wait" was unacceptable. My sister is a doctor -- and when she says be there at 10:00am, you wait no more than 5 minutes after that time for service to begin. Two hours later, we are still waiting. Don't listen to what they say. It takes way longer than the timeframe they provide you. Plan to "block out" the whole day. Our time is valuable, too! Overall, disappointing service. read more

This facility is okay. A very rude, middle aged black female nurse said "not you" in a condescending tone when my relative was called to be seen and I followed behind them. My relative is older and does not speak English. They were going in for surgery and are especially vulnerable considering the circumstances. The nurse could have easily told me I had to stay behind in a different tone/manner, and allowed me the second to explain to my relative that I could not follow them. She was very kind, smiled even, to the staff there, but had a stank demeanor when speaking to patients. Very unprofessional and disappointing on her part. Jessica however, was amazing. Had both eyes done. Sure there is a wait to get into the pre-op area. That's why it is called a WAITING room. Once inside, an incredibly friendly and efficient team. From pre-op to post op...fantastic experience and successful outcome. Dr. David Sachs is amazing. The best thing about this clinic is that they'll provide a free ride there and back. I had a terrible operating room experience yesterday that I felt was unconscionable on their part. I was left waiting for the doctor in a freezing operating room for over an hour with an IV in one arm, a blood pressure sleeve on the other, and with my head strapped down so I was pinned to my cot. Not once did anyone check on me to ask if I was alright. Was I cold? Could I use a blanket? Could my head be unstrapped until the doctor got there? Nothing. Silence. The head nurse I spoke with this morning swore to me that my nurse was in the room the whole time. Frankly, I doubt that was true, but even if the nurse was there, what kind of health professionals are these who can show such complete disregard for a patient's discomfort? My elderly dad had cataract surgery yesterday morning. The staff was welcoming and patient with him from the moment we checked in to when his nurse took him to the back. I was unable to go and be with him during his procedure, but he was well taken care of according to my dad. His post op nurse, Brittany, was the most gentle and attentive with him. She patiently escorted and assisted my dad into my car, and on our ride back home, he couldn't stop sharing how wonderful Brittany took care of him after his procedure. I would like to thank the entire staff for all their assistance on Thursday March 20, 2019. I had my left eye Cataract replaced. The entire staff made my stay pleasant as could be. There is one person that I must thank for going out of her way and making me as calm as I could be. That person is Aileen. She was such a pleasure to talk to and listen to. She was with me the entire time and made sure I was okay. We talked about movies and such so as to relax me. You are truly lucky to have her as one of your staff members. I explained to her that I have terrible veins and she said don't worry I will find one on the first try. She sure did. She was brought into the operating room on schedule and we were able to leave about two hours later. The nurses gave detailed discharge instructions and followed up later that day, as well as the next day. My mother had laser cataract surgery on 5/9/2016. One week later she was blind in that eye. Despite prompt care and more surgery they were unable to save her vision. A strong fast moving bacteria was introduced into her eye at some point. Now the center is investigating. Please be very careful! read more

Today I went to the Center as a post op patient. The Center NEVER called about a time frame to see the Dr i was coming into see. Then i arrived and the receptionist was CURT. Told me to take a seat and she would tell the nurse manager I was here . Well she sat there until the Nurse Manager came out to talk to her. I did hear her tell the N.M. that i was waiting. After about 1/2 I asked her if she could give me a time frame on the wait. Her answer was I told the N.M. she knows. THAT was NOT what I asked. She never gave me an answer. So I sat back down . My husband came in to ask how long ? I had no idea. So the N.M. came out and she and the receptionist were talking NOT ONCE did she inform her that I was still waiting. Then my husband went up to ask while the N.M. was still at the counter. In less then 5 minutes i was in the bac k having my small procedure done.. In and Out NO THANKS to the receptionist. Kept my 89-year old mother waiting almost four hours past her appointment time. Standing room only in waiting room. Another patient ran her medical oxygen canister empty while waiting and had to go on surgicenter oxygen while waiting her turn (I'm not making this up). Office had ample opportunity to call us and advise that they were running late, but didn't see fit to bother. A deplorable disregard for their patients/customers. Never again. read more

The center is new and nicely set up. The waiting are is nice with free wifi although the receptionist was not able to tell me the password (she insisted you didn't need one but it was locked and you did need one). Paperwork process was smooth and efficient. However, after a while a nurse told me to leave everything with my family member and come with her. She rushed me into this holding area (pre-operating room area). This area had several patients and many workers (nurses I assume?). They all chatted constantly giving little attention to the patients. They joked, spoke of what they had for lunch, where they shopped last week, etc. I waited about an hour in this area so I have no idea why I was separated from my family member and made to sit alone. As patients were wheeled off to surgery two guys who would be responsible to wheel them would say "I'll take that one" or "move that one" never calling us patients, just referring to "that one". Very cold and rude. The center needs to look at that area (the holding room) and get some decency and respect brought into it. This was my first surgery ever and to listen to them all hanging around and joking among themselves for an hour was nerve wracking. On the other hand, in the operating room with Dr. Wong and OR staff was a warm and comforting experience. Thank you Dr. Wong. read more

Very impressed. I took my daughter today for surgery and from the moment we pulled into the parking lot until we left everyone was extremely professional and friendly. The facility is very clean and the process ran very smoothly. All of the staff and nurses were very effective in making my daughter feel comfortable and calm. One nurse by the name of Maura that saw my daughter after her procedure was an angel. She had such a gift with people and Maura discharged my daughter with very thorough aftercare instructions. For a stressful and unpleasant procedure I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this professional and well kept facility to others needing eye surgery. read more

This facility is as good as it gets. It is a beautiful building with a very comfortable (if not luxurious) waiting room, operating rooms, and recovery room. But more impressive than the physical features of the facility is the way it operates. Check-in was fast and efficient, staff members were kind, patient, and attentive to my needs, and the entire process of being there seemed to go smooth thanks to the professionalism of every person involved in my care. 2/18/16 I never wrote a negative review before but because the experience is the worst my family every has received in a healthcare facility I cannot hold back. I understand things don't always go as planned, especially working in the healthcare field myself for many years, but this place is unacceptable. They asked my mom to get there 10:45 am. The place was packed, standing room only. A very rude orderly told everyone to leave except the patients. Many of the patients are old and very nervous. An hour went by and we didn't hear anything. We asked if my mom was taken to surgery and was told she was. An hour later we asked for an update and was told there was no information. At 1:50 pm we asked again and was told she was still waiting, alone for 3 hours, that she never went in for her surgery. Now her blood pressure is high and she is beyond nervous. This can affect her surgery. This place is worse than a clinic. My dog gets more attention and more compassion from his vet. We are still waiting............... read more
