Dr. Andrew Greller is the best! I traveled all the way back to San Antonio with my dog to see Dr. Greller because he is just that good at what he does. He's kind, caring and very thorough. My dog has been having on going eye issues for a while and unfortunately, my regular vet wasn't able to figure it out. Luckily, I knew that I could take my dog to Dr. Greller and he would be able to figure things out for us. Sure enough, he was able to diagnose the issue. Though it's not curable, it is something that we can manage with the right care. Dr. Greller sent me and my dog off on the right path and I'm ever so grateful for his time and care. Plus, his technicians are kind and helpful making for a very smooth and easy appointment. This makes all the difference in the world when you have a dog that is a bit antsy with new people. I brought my cat to this office hoping for clarity and support during a very difficult time, but instead left feeling frustrated, dismissed, and emotionally drained. The ophthalmologist entered the room abruptly and spoke in a loud, harsh tone that came across as condescending and unempathetic. Rather than offering guidance or treatment options, I was essentially told how sick my cat was -- which I already knew. That's why I was there. What made things worse is that no immediate help was offered, and the tests they ran were sent out, so I left with no answers, no treatment plan, and no sense of direction. Didnt get called to the back until 30 minutes past my appointment time...its about an hour now past my appointment time and I am still waiting. I would recommend going somewhere else if you want a clinic that respects appointment times, and that doesnt make an appointment an all day affair. I took my 6 month old Great Dane puppy here for a exam of her eyes, since they're droopy / red. The technician that took us into the room initially was amazing. Very informative, and nice. Dr Fritz came in and did the test, and was very friendly and personable. He had tons of information and helped me understand why my pups eyes are the way they are. He recommended some drops / ointment but told me I "didn't have to buy them here I can go online" (I bought them from them anyway) which was nice to hear because it showed me they're not just in it for money like some vets are. He genuinely cared about my puppy and wanting to make sure I felt confident before leaving. The staff is amazing, it's a clean facility, and they're all friendly including the receptionists :) 5 stars is not enough in my opinion! Thank you guys!! read more

There aren't enough good things I could say about South Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology. You are instantly greeted with helpful, kind, and genuine staff who care about you and your pet. Our puppy Toby was born blind in his left eye. He had an exploratory surgery to see if he could potentially see out of his left eye, but unfortunately when they go to his eyeball it was non visible. A tech called me right away and asked me if we would like to go ahead and take the eye out today while he was already there and to sew his eyelid shut. We agreed that taking the eye out right away and closing his eyelid up would be the best thing to do. I'm very happy with my overall visit. Like I mentioned, I can't say enough about how welcoming and genuine they treated my dog and I. On top of being treated well, I found their pricing to be fair too. I would recommend South Texas Veterinary Ophthalmology a thousand times. If I could, I would rate it lower than 1 star. We were referred there to have our 12 year old dog's eyes checked. This is especially difficult as I am overseas in Baghdad while my husband is in Texas with our animals. We kept in touch throughout this process and every time I received an update I became more concerned. Here are the things that bothered me the most: 1. Our dog was prescribed eye drops which were supposedly made specifically for STV which cost $59. Money isn't now nor has it ever been an issue when it comes to medical care for our 6 rescue pets. The real issue is that all he really needed was artificial tears in order to keep his eyes lubricated. How about explaining that and allowing us to get them from HEB or another pharmacy. 2. The written report, which my husband sent to me via email, only included medical terms and did not explain anything in detail. Of course, their website clearly states that "We have handouts for clients for most medical conditions explaining what to expect as far as diagnostic plans, treatment plans and follow up appointments so their (sic) is continuity with family members that may not have been present for the examination, but may be part of the patients eye care needs." So, after googling the medical terms written on the report, I found that neither of his conditions were treatable and that they were a symptom of either old age or breed. He is turning 12 in July so the answer should have been as simple as "He's not in any pain. This is a symptom of old age and he will adapt to vision loss". 3. When my husband complained to our REAL veterinarian about the fiasco, our vet reached out to STV and requested the notes and an explanation. That is when we found out that they didn't even provide a complete report to our vet in first place. They failed to inform our vet that they prescribed additional medication (not just the ridiculously priced eye drops) for our dog which could easily have caused adverse reactions should he have needed additional medication. One of the prescribed medications our vet told us to stop giving him. 4. My husband was then informed by our real vet that STV was going to suggest that our dog be seen by a neurologist. This was never mentioned to my husband when he was there at either appointment. Come to find out, the neurological appointment would have been merely for curiosity sake, it would not have helped with his vision issues and besides his vision, he is in perfect health for his age. Why put an older pet through this if it isn't in the best interests of the pet? That is what teaching hospitals are for. Luckily we are blessed to have an extremely competent, caring and ETHICAL vet to depend on. He was embarrassed to have recommended STV and followed up with them to ensure they knew of his dissatisfaction. I can honestly say that we've had better veterinary experiences in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait which we never thought possible. read more

After seeing 3 general practice vets and 1 eye specialist my kitty is now pain free. He is keeping his baby blues wide open. Dr Wagner found what the others did not. Kitty had some foreign object stuck to his third eye lid. Dr sedated my cat removed the 2 objects and flushed his tear duct. The vet tech was amazing too. Dr. Greller was so informative and patient, he helped calm my wife and I down right away. We took our dog here for a a eye problem she was having and they charged us $170 consultation fee and another $400 for services and medicine. The veterinarian was very nice and said he wanted to see my dog back for a follow up in 4 weeks. So 3 weeks goes by and my wife goes to take her back and they want to charge us again for the follow up and the receptionist was very rude and didn't care to help us. My dogs condition still exists and there was no follow up by them. Waste of time, effort and money. I do not recommend them. read more

It was okay, after our appointment we received an estimate of the surgery and it was $1,000 more than the estimate we received pre-pandemic so I was shocked. It could be that the doctor saw a English Bulldog and thought the owners had money to spend. Dr. Rainbow treated my schnauzer for conjunctivitis for several months, and all the time he denied that it was glaucoma. Two days ago she had her eye removed due to blindness from glaucoma. Rainbow is/has moved to Houston, and his replacement diagnosed it in March. Of course, we did not allow this business to do the surgery for eye removal. My general vet referred my pet to Dr. Greller office, my pet had an ulcer on his eye. When I initially called the young lady I spoke to was very nice, I think her name was Madison? I was a bit shocked about the price of the office visit, plus an emergency fee. Needless to say I had to wait a couple of weeks prior to taking my pet to dr greller. The day of his visit I had to drop my pet off and wait for over an hour in the heat, and when the tech came down to speak to me her name was Jen, she was rude, she talked down to me and made me feel horrible that I didn't bring my pet in 2 weeks ago. I asked if I could speak to dr. greller, after waiting for 30 minutes he finally called me on my cell and he also made me feel horrible that I waited to schedule my pet for treatment etc, neither showed any compassion! These are trying times, my children come first, unfortunately I had to wait on getting my dog treated. My pet had a minor procedure and I paid my bill. dr greller you might be a specialist but you showed no compassion or kindness at all! Your nurse was right down nasty!
