We have been customers with our furry patients, of this practice for 15 years and would not go any where else. I did consider it for a second as I moved from this side of Stone Oak and did not relish the thought of a trek across town with a freaked out but when I called my local vet they had a laundry list of basic care procedures they call routine and with it a price tag $200 higher - so I decided to stick with Dr. James as she is an excellent vet and does not take advantage of people with unneeded tests!! Dr. James is so compassionate and clearly loves animals. She does the right thing by pets and their owners and is clinically excellent but takes things step by step to do the right thing not the most expensive thing. As a result animals are well cared for and outcomes are excellent We have also sadly been there when things end unfortunately due to age and Dr.James and her team care, doing the right thing by the pet but ultimately leaving the decision up to the owner albeit very a informed decision. They give you the space you need and provided us with ornaments of a lost pets paw and always follow up with a kind card. When selecting a vet I found the process even more difficult than selecting my own doctor. I am beyond grateful that I found this office. I was referred to Dr James after adopting my rescue pup a few months ago. My most recent visit I called in a panic because my dog was limping and the staff was incredibly sweet. They were able to see my pup and provide her with a diagnosis to help her leg feel better. Like many pet owners (perhaps they own us?), we treat them like our kids. Naturally, we would only trust the very best in healthcare for them. We've had two Dalmatians with special healthcare needs and she's provided nothing but the best quality care and always with compassion. I honestly wish I could say better about this place. When I asked for an estimate for how much getting my little Chihuahua I was more than happy to pay the estimated $300 for him getting fixed, and all his shots because he's a recuse; upon arrival later that day to pick my sweet boy up, the total came out to be over $550!!!! I was not ready or prepared to pay that price. So I asked about a payment plan to see if I could spread the payments out a little bit, NOPE you must pay in full the day of!! Now I should mention this was a few months ago. Now for todays problem. I took my other dog to get fixed todo somewhere I could afford and when I called them for my dogs shot records from when he was a puppy, they were no where to be found. Why? because they just though it was a good idea to list his shot under the mothers name. Meaning there is actually NO PROOF WHAT SO EVER that my dogs were vaccinated. Dr. Anne James has always been wonderful. We have been in for check-ups and shots, not to mention the more difficult times of helping our animals cross to a better place. I am not sure why people think it's okay to negotiate down fee's with a veterinarian especially when one considers most people don't have medical insurance on their animals. If you don't like the pricing, call other clinics until you find the one that falls within your budget. Dr. James pays rent, buys supplies, pays for equipment, not to mention the cost of employees and taxes. I recommend Dr. James and her staff to any neighbor that asks. I trust her judgement. Dr. James had been a very nice lady to work with, but the staff leaves a bit to be desired. Pretty callus attitude in customer service. Brought my dog in for a vet check after a surgery. Vet check required Dr. James' attention. After checking the dog and discussing the complication she also checked her nose where there is a small tumor like bump. This was not at my request. She had seen her about this previously and I paid a $75.00 doctor visit charge at that time. I was not told there would be a charge for checking her nose and again I didn't request it. She had checked it before. Received a call at home saying we now owed $46.00 for the nose check. Staff was rude and very insistent about the charge and if we didn't want to pay it we could find another vet to care for our dogs. I have been a client of Dr Anne James at Blanco Crossing Veterinary Hospital for maybe about 16 years and I can always depend on her and her staff to give me the very best diagnosis for my pet's issues/care. My story is this...our 1st experience with Dr. James about 16 or so years ago was when our 1st golden retriever suffered with skin allergies from the time he was a puppy. We lived out of the U.S. for several years and when we moved back we would used different vets trying to get relief for our sweet dog. Finally our groomer recommended Blanco Crossing as they say the rest is history. Golden #1 was under Blanco Crossing regular care until he passed in 2006. Then we got our 2nd golden puppy in 2007 and again he was a healthy big boy no allergies thank goodness but he did have hip displaysia. Dr recommended supplements and when the time came for something stronger to ease the pain, she was always available for our questions and concerns as well as her staff. Oh and I might say we also have a cat our son brought home in spring of 2007 a very very young feral kitten...who also sees Dr. James. Our second sweet golden has crossed the Rainbow Bridge and now we have our 3rd golden and the same kitty. This golden we fostered from a rescue and then later adopted. While in that process of fostering we were directed to use a vet in the Stone Oak area that we had used before however he was the vet chosen by the rescue and that was that. The foster had diarrhea issues that would not clear up while under that vet treatment. My husband and I talked with the rescue and decided we would take this sweet animal to Dr. James and pay out of pocket for the visit. With one visit Dr James had the diarrhea cleared up with what I understood was a very basic 1st step approach for vet treatment of this type. As always we know without a doubt we will get the best diagnosis and treatment from not only Dr. James but her staff of vet techs and her front office. I have been going to Dr Janes for way too long, through 6 dogs approximately 15 years. Never really loved it always feel a bit like it is all about $$$$$$. Yesterday I took my 9lb 1 1/2 year old Maltipoo to be spayed which I called around and Blanco Crossing was about $35 more than the cheapest vet. Checked 2 times on the cost and was told absolutely that was all, possibly some pain meds in addition. I did ask to look at her ears and remove her dew claws (which Dr Janes had said on our first puppy appointment, that she would take those out when we spayed her, and she was already out, which I thought she was doing with out charge) When I went to pick up my dog and pay the $287 as quoted I was horrified at the bill of $770!!!!! I did not have that kind of money to spend on my dog unfortunately. I had waited and budgeted just to pay the $300. Long story short the $287 did not cover operating room, extra gas, etc! Though they promised 2 times that the charge would be $287. I offered $400 and the extremely rude front desk staff said NO over and over. They held my dog hostage though legally they can't, but they did. I left went home and I got a CC that would take the $770, returned and got my baby back. She is miserable and we are now home 25 hours, she has not had even a teaspoon of water, I am so worried about her. Called back just now and was told to do all things I have already tried, (broth, ice, etc) which I explained I have tried all this. Final option I could bring her in and they will charge me to look at her and possibly give fluids! Seriously DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING TO THIS VET! She also treated my dog for a back problem, charged me a whole bunch of money then when I return ONE WEEK later for shots (because they wouldn't do it all at the same time, had to pay 2 exams) she NEVER even asked how my baby was doing with her back, never said one word! I am so angry that people can get away with Lies and cheat hard working people like me. read more

The office staff has become very rude and very unwilling to work with on getting a prescription refilled. The pharmacist at Costco faxed over the prescriptions I needed but the vet office insisted they needed a "form" which Costco says they don't have. The pharmacist at Costco said there is no law preventing them from approving the prescription the way they sent it (a list of medications), but Blanco Crossing is just being difficult. I was then told by Blanco Crossing that the only way to get the prescription was to come get a hand-written prescription, which would cost $6 PER PRESCRIPTION because it is "time consuming". Since I need 3 that would be $18! That is completely ridiculous. I'm sorry if it is "time consuming" but that's just part of your job! We all do "time consuming" stuff at our job - we deal with it! read more

I went to this clinic for about a year during which they were good. But the last time I went, I negotiated a fee with the vet Dr Ann James for surgery for a 15 year old cat which she had treated previously (pulled all the teeth but 1 and that one needed removal so I went back to her). I prepped the cat at home the night before. I went to the clinic early the next morning between 7-8am. The normal intake girl was not there and the vet assistant Kim (?) was doing intake. When I told her about the previous agreed upon price, she objected and said it was her job, not the vet's to give prices and if I didn't want to pay more, then I should leave. She was persistent and insistant to the point of rudeness. It was unfair to me and the cat at this late point in time when I had nowhere else to go with such short notice. Dr James hid in her back room and would not show her face until much time had passed. I told Kim I would wait for her; it took forever! Another person came into the clinic with an unruly small dog that would not stop shrill barking that hurt my ears and I reacted to that-telling that owner that this was hard for me to bear. Dr James finally emerged moaning about having to pay 50% of her paycheck in taxes (poor little rich girl!). I was still being pushed out rudlly by Kim, and the dog continued to bark-no one came out to quiet the dog or help the poor dog owner with such an uncontrollable annoying animal that made the entire clinic uncomfortable. I asked Dr James about our fionancial agreement and she said (too quietly) she would do her best. I thought that was reasonable but Kim was still telling me to take my cat and leave while pushing the cat at me in his carrier across the counter. I risked pushing the carrier back towards her and left. At the time of pickup, Kim handed me most of my previous vet reports and told me never to come back there! I couldn't believe this. I called Dr James and she also told me never to return there because I had treated her doggie owner patient rudely and hurt her feelings (the one with the annoying barking dog that was completely out of control!). I tried to explain to Dr about how I was treated there by Kim and she would not let me talk. Then she tried to recommend other non-dog clinics to me saying I didn't like dogs! I have had dogs all my life! These people are crazy. It's too bad because previously I thought Dr James was a decent vet. But now I think she's just off the wall. I reported to a lawyer. My cat suffered from no post-op care, maybe from a dry socket? He is still not right. Don't go here unless you want to risk this kind of think happening to you, All the sugar coated sweetness you may see in the first visit may wear off since it is only millimeters thin and underneath is all about MONEY! Perhaps if you have big bucks to give to Dr James, she and her dear Kim may treat you better than me! read more

Dr. James and her staff are awesome. I have multiple cats and dogs and take all my animals to her clinic. I'm always comforted knowing when I leave, my fur babies got the best care they could get. She and her staff spend time with you and dont just cattle you in and out of the office. Dr. James also doesn't recommend unnecessary medical procedures/expenses like other vets I have gone to in the past. I have had pets my entire life and have seen many vets here in San Antonio and Dr. James by-far is the best! Her staff are awesome as well. I love that they know me by name and I dont have to give an explanation of who I am every time I call. I never leave wondering if I paid for something that wasn't necessary.
