We only saw the North Unit on our visit so we will definitely have to visit more at a later date. While visiting I felt so at peace and love that it's not overcrowded like other National Parks and that you really feel surrounded by nature and wildlife. We enjoyed driving along the scenic path and soaking in the stunning views! We saw cannonball concretions, stunning views from the overlooks along the way, and saw lots of bison. There are lots of hiking trails to explore and we saw deer. We look forward to coming back and hopefully seeing wild horses and prairie dogs. The park is large with so much to see and do. An absolutely gorgeous place to visit that is so underrated! Highly recommend visiting this place!

No over-crowding, decent rustic camping, lots of wildlife & plenty of space to roam. South Unit loop has a lot of construction going right now, which makes it an out & back va a loop. We spotted plenty of bison, horses, prairie dogs, deer & such. There was a pretty thick layer of smoke lingering, no fault of the park but it did make for a rough outdoor time & lousy landscape photos. I've been a lot of places and have to see a better sunset than I've seen here. It's a great place to unplug & reconnect with nature.

The north unit has a 14 mile loop I believe and the south unit is about a 36 mile loop. Both have lots of places to stop at and soak in the views. Great camping spot at a well maintained property not far from Theodore Roosevelt NP. They are on…read morethe little Missouri and they have a trail head to the Maah Daah Hey trail. There are kind of three sections: First section is an open area for RV with utilities, next is an area for camping with horses and stalls, and the last area (where we stayed) is a forest area with much vegetation and no utilities. The forest area is close to a very small and summer mosquito creek. All have a picnic table and fire pit. Where we stayed with our 25' RV was very tight and the entry says no higher than 10' which we are 12'. We brushed trees and shrubs, and we were not the only ones to manage to squeeze in. Not for large RV's in the forest area. Booking can be done online and on-site, but it was full during our September visit. Someone even tried to take our site with the reserved sign noting it was taken. No issues and they moved on. There is a shower house, bathrooms, dump station, water and trash. Good place to stay and hike especially while the National Park was closed to camping. It is down a 1/2 mile gravel road and a state ranger station and camp host are on site.

Here at Sully Creek State Park you can see an active stream of water eroding part of the Badlands. The Little Missouri River erodes each part of its surroundings including the stones. Which gave my husband, Peter, and Esther a great experience skipping rocks on the water. This river gives the animals around a source of water. We have seen deer and a fox while simply driving into this park. This is definitely a great place to touch, view, and experience the river that has been shaping this landscape for thousands of years.

It's a small-ish local museum so it won't take much time. You'll find artifacts dedicated to both cowboys and Native Americans which is great. I'd recommend stopping here while you're visiting Theodore Roosevelt National park and the town of Medora.

Excellent smaller museum combining both the history of Native Americans and cowboys located just a…read morefew yards away from the entrance to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in the adorable town of Medora. This self-guided museum was the perfect place to stop before our journey into the actual park, and I really think it should be on your itinerary when in the area if it isn't already. It won't take a ton of time, maybe an hour or so to complete the three levels, but it's really worth it! The museum has a minimal fee for adults, free entrance for kiddos 7 and under, and free entrance for those 18 and under on Wednesdays and Sundays. Don't miss the short, but really informative documentary about the land here which was very interesting to see prior to heading out into it. The film speaks about Theodore Roosevelt's connection to the area and the battles which have taken place here. They even have saddle seats in the theater the kiddos loved! The kiddos ages 6 & 8 also loved riding the horses and dressing up like cowgirls! I loved tying them up in a lasso for a bit! Don't miss this section of you have wee ones with you! I really liked that this museum combines both Native American history and well as that of the cowboys. I loved the contrast of old and modern found in the exhibits here. There's amazing artifacts from the Native Americans such as moccasins, instruments, intricate beaded clothing, bear claw accessories, moccasins, arrowheads and more. There's also amazing detailed saddles, bad-a** guns, awards and metals from new rodeo stars, hats, belt buckles and more. We highly recommend a visit here for full understating and appreciation of the park. A few cool photo op items across the way like a giant buffalo skull the kids love playing in!

Piper was very personable and kept up steady conversation. The horses are well mannered, all with their own little quirks. It was nice that our wrangler knows the individual horses well enough to give us a heads up. For example, at the end of the ride there's a wide short bush that the horse I had insists on walking through. It wasn't dangerous, and it's just his preference and gives him a little joy, he scratches his belly on it. Piper knew the horses well enough she gave me a heads up so I wasn't surprised. Beautiful views.

The staff are very friendly, supportive and professional. Safety is a priority and they emphasize the directions on guiding your horse and the proper ways to mount and dismount. This pool is small but it wasn't too crowded even on a scorching August afternoon. Admission was $4, and the life guards do take a 15 minute break every hour so everyone must clear the pool during that time. The combined changing/shower rooms were clean as well as the rest of the place, and pool noodles and the like are provided at no extra charge. I'll definitely be back next time I find myself in the area on a hot summer day!

At just $8 per vehicle, a very affordable trip if you're in the area. Not necessarily a place that I'd go out of my way to visit, but a nice diversion in an otherwise quiet city.
