In a nutshell, my favorite BBQ spot in my home area and possibly NJ. Food was really fantastic. Big portions, really well flavored BBQ, tender, just delicious. We also had their friend shrimp app and it was clearly not some frozen shrimp out of a box. Very large shrimp, home made, and the sauce was awesome too. Even after that, I still stayed despite being embarrassed after this rude encounter. Shortly after, about 10 minutes later, the other bartender with glasses said to my partner and I "you good? We both expressed that we are simply enjoying ourselves, everyone is dancing and it seems to be a jovial environment. She finally sat us close to the bar. She was running around to all the tables because they had her working solo. When she got to us I ordered a Titos and tonic and she ordered a remy and coke. I had to send my drink back because there was something floating in it. The other one was fine. I asked for the check shortly after and she told me the price. We've been meaning to try this place for some time. We moved to the Neighborhood and always see it in passing. My husband and I went for dinner. It was about 7:30pm. Due to Covid I'm assuming the place doesn't get packed. The place is really big but looks dated. We were greeted by a woman who was polite and professional. She asked that we sit where we like. Our food came out really fast surprisingly. The Ribs were not hot in temperature. They almost tasted as if they had been sitting there all day. They didn't overwhelm me with taste but I figured its all about the sauce. I poured the first sample of bbq sauce which by the way come in little plastic containers with lids on them and I was disgusted. The bbq sauces were all refrigerator cold. So great... now im pouring cold bbq sauce on not so warm ribs. Honestly I didn't like any of the BBQ sauces. Some were too sweet and some way too watery or thick. There wasn't a middle ground. The only one that kind of passed the test was the Molasses and I really wish they would have brushed it on and warmed them up in the oven before putting them on a my table. The Collard Greens had way too much Vinegar. How can you mess up Collard Greens? They were cut really big too. The Mac and Cheese was good. It was rich and creamy. My husband found his sandwich to be good. It looked nicely pressed with melted cheese and ribs on a sourdough bread, although from a distance, you can tell his bread was pressed in lots of butter. His Sweet Potato Fried were perfect but you can tell they're Frozen. During our dining experience some guy, a patron, was having an argument really loudly with someone on the phone and the workers never bothered to tell him to take his phone call outside. This was very annoying as we just wanted a peaceful meal for Date Night after a long work Week. Overall the experience wasn't memorable. We stumbled upon this after a google search. Came in on an early Saturday afternoon. Seemed understaffed in the front of the house but having been in the business 12 years I understand. The food was so good even though some of the meats were barely room temp they were packed with flavor ! Calamari and wings were to die for and the sauces were amazing! As were the pulled pork and chicken! I'm sorry but the brisket was so very DRY! Very minimal fat on it so thats probably why it was not juicy or flavorful at all. And actually the BBQ tasted "too" BBQ, like they use too much liquid smoke! I had Mac and steamed broccoli as sides which were perfectly cooked and delicious. My daughter had the brisket platter, again very DRY, sided with cheese grits, meh... and perfectly grilled zucchini and squash. SUMMARY I actually do like this place. Its dark and cozy. Another BBQ disappointment. I ordered a slab with baked beans and Baked Mac N Cheese. Never had Baked beans with pinto beans in it. Real soupy. They should be thick in my opinion. Mac N Cheese tastes awful. I don't know what kind of cheese they put but it's beyond disgusting. The ribs were not cutting it. Not warm enough and the membrane was left on. My daughter recommended the smoked wings so I decided to try this place out. I ordered the brisket, coleslaw and hush puppies. I placed my order with Door Dash and it arrived in 30 minutes and the driver actually came to the door. The hush puppies were burnt. The brisket was mostly fat and the coleslaw tastes spoiled. About the food, my brother ordered the fried chicken meal and had no complaints, I had the chicken and waffle and the waffle was over cooked, my ok had the ribs and wasn't impressed. All of the sides were ehh. The waitress brought over 4 "sauces" for our food, but they were all kinda just vinegar. The pulled pork was the highlight if the combo as it was tasty, juicy and satisfyingly good. The extra side of brisket was OILY! As if oil was placed on the brisket to hide how dry it was. I was craving brisket and this just broke my heart. I've had smoked brisket all over Texas, Kansas City and the Carolinas. Never had oil like that on any of it. When you lifted the cornbread, oil was dripping off it. Sides: Fries were seasoned well. Mac and cheese was tasty. Creamed spinach was good. Corn bread was dense, hard and dry. The texture was perfect with a nice solid tasty Chocolate outer shell. I see a lot of the negative reviews but my experience definitely exceeded my expectations and now I look at it as a blessing in disguise because who knows if ever would have made it to this place. They have a band playing on Monday nights which was cool and decent music. Thursday's they have karaoke and R&B night so I have come back and get my American Idol on LOL.
